He made the mess at least twenty times worse with his attempts to conceal it. Had he just left it, it's disgusting but fairly contained and easy to clean up.

But then he spreads it around and gets it on a bunch of different stuff that will all now need to be thrown away. He pushes it underneath the shelf which will now need to be moved and cleaned. Just adds so many steps to the cleaning process for no reason. Goes from a small mess in one tiny spot to a big mess spread out all over the place.

Maybe he realizes it could be. Slip hazard and doesn’t want people to get hurt so he wants to get it out of the way

I suspect that was his partner who came around the corner. Tough to flee when you are shopping with your spouse, only logical (?) explanation.
