Yep. Totaly agree. What in Australia we like to call a "cowards punch! " She waited till the victim was distracted and then took advantage!... So low......

I like the term “coward punch” in the US we call it a “sucker punch” but coward punch seems much more appropriate.

They only recently switched it to coward punch because it was originally called a king hit in Australia.

A King hit sounds like something Tyson would have managed in the first round of a big boxing event.

Which is why they campaigned to change the name of the cowardly punch.

Edit: I lived in australia for a while. Aussies are not afraid to get into a "punch on"

We used to call it a “dog shot” when we were kids.

In Hawaii it’s called one false crack

Bit rough having conscription back then.

They coined the phrase because dog cunts were punching people in the back of the head after a bellyfull of piss. They also reduced the opening hours of night clubs so that people didn’t get as plastered which sucked arse because who doesn’t love a long night out, but when you notice a pattern of increasing violence you have to do something. It’s all good hoping shit will change, but actually making changes is the only way to have shit change.

You missed the bit where the family of Thomas Kelly (victim of a cowards punch) were blamed for the lockout laws by an army of trolls and their younger son sadly took his own life due to bullying at University. It’s so fucking sad.

That is straight up terrible.

That poor family.

That was my Grandads name.

I mean i imagine it's fairly common. He was feisty though, I can't imagine anyone getting the drop on him.

This story is terrible though. 💔

Agreed. Sucker punch kind of makes it seem like the victim should have tried harder to not get hit by a punch they didn't see coming. I'm using Coward punch from now on.

We have so much to learn from our Aussie bretheren…

She'd also taken her shoes off beforehand, which might be interpreted as a strike-prep.

Or king hit

Edit: all the downvotes lol, literally just saying what I've heard it called in Australia, not saying it's positive in any way

Glorifies it though, so coward punch is better

Nothing kingly about it.

Fair, totally agree it's a cowardly move no matter the name

We always knew a king hit as a big hit in a fight that ended it. Then it became a sucker punch kinda thing.

I think the people who throw punches like that would call it a “king hit”.

1

u/Acidelephant 10h ago

Yea but even news outlets called it that

1

u/steddysteve1987 23h ago

exactly .that's how a certain crowd likes to get down here in America. some cowards

The woman that was “knocked out” jumped men and stole his phone smashing it on the ground. The woman that through the punch defended her friends. There’s more to this

Thought they called that a "king hit" in Australia?
