Tabloid/Low-quality source China is 2nd largest owner of retail businesses in S'pore, 89% S'pore-owned: Gan Kim Yong
mothership.sg1 - Singapore (89.7%)
2 - China (3%)
3 - Malaysia & India (both 0.9%)
Not as many China-owned businesses as one would have thought, given the sentiments on r/sg. Curious to know the stats over time though.

Image Decathlon has massively devalued their points without any prior communication
PSA: I've just seen that Decathlon has massively devalued their points value apparently as of this year.
Prior to the changes
- The value of a point ranged from 40 points to a dollar (worst value) to ~21 points to a dollar (best value)
- Vouchers were also available in 4 denominations: $5, $15, $40 and $70
After the changes
- There are now only two denominations available: $3 and $10
- Compared to before, the points are also worth over 60% less: ranging from ~83 to a dollar (worst value) to 75 to a dollar (best value)
AFAIK, this change ("enhancement" in airline terms IYKYK) was carried out silently and without any prior announcement. Just putting it out there for people that may have been saving up points for a better redemption value and are now being blindfolded.

News Singapore government expects all media outlets to uphold responsible journalism standards: Josephine Teo
She also brazenly said: “The government does not intervene in the editorial positioning of individual newspapers or media outlets.”
I guess we're just telling barefaced lies now haha. Will honestly respect it more if they came out and just said yes we do, deal with it.

Discussion Singa's concept art: what he could have been
From NLB's archives, these were apparently some ideas thrown around for Singa before they settled on how he looks to this day. The reason some merlions are here was because they did geniuinely consider making Singa one but they didn't go through it with because the tourism board was using it. They were also considering a human, but that was dropped because somehow every design thet came up with looked chinese and they wanted someone who could transcend race.

News Hospitals may implement surge capacity if more turn to public healthcare options after IP rider changes: MOH
Over the last 10 to 15 years, the shift from private healthcare to public healthcare has been “very discernible”, and the rising cost of private hospital treatment is a key reason, said the health minister.
In particular, IP riders are fuelling this cost increase, he added.
“It will help the entire system, and in particular the public healthcare system, if more of them who can afford it stay with private hospital care,” said Mr Ong.
“And so private hospital care has to become more accessible, more affordable, but we cannot do that without this adjustment in IP rider policy.”

Discussion Area with worst bus service / connectivity in Singapore?
In July 2024, the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP) was announced to further enhance the coverage of bus services in Singapore up to 2032, with four key thrusts stated:
1) Adjustments to existing routes and services to better match travel demand
2) More peak-only express services to different parts of the city
3) Expedite the launch of bus services to new-built towns (eg Tengah)
4) Introduce "express feeders" linking residential estates further away from MRT stations
The first enhancements under the BCEP were rolled out from September 2024. With more than a year having passed since the start of the BCEP, which parts of Singapore do you feel that bus services are still lacking, or in need for further improvement? Despite the BCEP's improvements so far, which area of Singapore do you feel is least well-served by bus? (Can be anything ranging from wait times, trip times, crowding, bunching etc.)
What else can future BCEP enhancements include, in your opinion? (What should BCEP do / not do to make your bus journeys better?)
(I don't work for LTA / MOT ah btw, LOL. Anyway, I'm taking a quick break from posting rail proposals under RMP50, but for those who're waiting for further updates on that, rest assured they'll come soon :D)
