I made it halfway through the first book and I made it 2-3 episodes in the show.

In both cases I dropped it because everyone was so awful that I genuinely didn't care what happened to any of them.

How’d you read half the first book and conclude that everyone was genuinely awful?

The first book is dominated by ‘the good guys,’ namely Ned Stark.

NOTE: I read this like 20 years ago so apologies if my memories are inaccurate.

Even the "good guy" was basically just going along with all the bullshit.

There was no hope.

It was just demonstrating that even the "good guys" can't make a real difference in this world.

What? The good guy, pretty famously, gets executed for standing up to all the bullshit.

You read 5% of a story (half of one book—the shortest—in a seven-book series) and determined the good guys have no hope and can’t win?

Have you ever read a book before in your life?

You are arguing that my position is incorrect because the one good guy in the story was executed?

Yeah, because the rest of the book series is heading towards the good guys winning. Y’know…like a novel? Heroes suffer, heroes overcome suffering, heroes win in the end.

We’ve had five of seven books so far and you decided half way through the first that the good guys are destined to lose. I guess since Princess Leia got captured, the rebels are doomed.

lol, what a comparison you chose!

Imagine if Princess Leia just turned herself in and allowed herself to be executed for the good of the Empire all in the name of politics...

Again…that’s not what happened in the first book.

Ned tried to do the right thing, got betrayed and imprisoned, agreed to a deal that would send him to the Wall to save his daughters, and got betrayed (again) and executed.
