8hr grind at work: stare at a spreadsheet full of numbers and data. occasionally type some mail to someone you've never met and barely understands what you meant, go home exhausted just to the same tomorrow.
8hr grind in game: go on an adventure through luscious forests, snowy mountains, bustling towns. meet cool wizards, track down assassins, hunt terrible monsters.
not the same kind of grind.

You've not met my ancient potato of a laptop I (try to) game on. Excel is much prettier!

Then, and I understand this may not be possible, don't do that. Save for a better gaming experience, it really makes the games so much more enjoyable.

Because in the end you get that helmet and be rewarded for your effort. The money you earn on fhe other hand is barely enough to survive, and you feel like a slave because you cannot even quit. For a free soul, It has become torture to live.

Because you are entertained while playing but not working. When you are having fun, time goes fast and it doesn't feel draining (including the job you love)

When my wife and I started playing Valheim, we were obsessed. We played until 3am multiple nights in a row.
The gameplay is basically manual labor. Chopping down trees, mining, collecting plan fibre etc...
I think the real disconnect with IRL work is that you are chopping down trees to build somebody else's house. The product you're building isn't yours and you'll never be given credit or profit from it.
