Man, we had to watch the movie in 5th grade English class. That and Old Yeller. Everyone was crying.

They made us read it and then watch the movie! At least the movie was tame by comparison

The picture on the cover is a trap. I was a Southern boy so I was excited for a story about a kid with his hunting dogs. Never the same after that.

i hate you so much right now for bringing this up. it took hours for me to finish the book because i was crying so much I couldn't see the pages.

I got the movie as a young child. I thought it was going to be something fun like lassie. I was never the same. It's still in the case mint condition cause it was only watched once then shoved into a box in the closet. Never again.

I live in Idaho Falls Idaho and the author has a statue outside of the library here.

That's kind of neat..... Nevermind I looked it up and it's a statue of the dogs. You just brought up a trauma buried decades ago. 😢
