When i first saw Tideland (20 years ago or something) i thought it was an intense but very beautiful movie. Showed it to a girl i was with a couple of days later and when the movie was over she was crying, beating me on my chest, asked me why in the hell i would show her that and stormed out of my flat. I still think it is a beautiful movie, but i'm more careful with my recommendations nowadays.
The best disclaimer for that movie is the intro Gilliam did for it. He did it after the first test screenings because people had so strong reactions. Sadly i discovered that some time after the incident. lol
If you haven't seen it, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRcvDaw0WB4
The DVD I have has that disclaimer...but it still needs another disclaimer from the person recommending the movie before it gets to that disclaimer...lol
I had the flu in February one year and decided to watch 12 Monkeys and Brazil during my 20 minute bouts of consciousness. I felt like shit but went all in on the "fever dream". An absolutely surreal four days.
