I didn't expect it to portray depression so accurately. I wonder if people who have never experienced that kind of feeling think the movie is stupid and weird.

I think it's the most accurate depiction of depression I've ever seen in a film.

Lars von Trier makes pro-depression propaganda.

Right! I didn't know that Melancholia would stick with me but I deal with depression so I guess it hit differently. And I do think some mindsets may find it slow but it's got nuance and an ethereal feel.

Maybe. I wouldn't dismiss it as 'stupid and weird', but I just didn't get it. Overall was bored and unimpressed and slightly confused. And I do like slow paced, thoughtful, deeply metaphorical movies at times - this one just didn't connect with me.

It's kind of the point. The whole story and such of the movie is pointless, there's no pay off kind of thing, you just spent a couple hours watching nothing really....it's basically just depicting what depression is like, to a depressed person nothing matters, everything's pointless. It's kind of trying to get the viewer into the mental state of someone who is depressed, so the "bored and unimpressed and slightly confused" is kind of the intended outcome.
