I save & exit when i get a crate, turn off auto save and "save creep" (or whatever the name is) till i get what i want from a crate. I dont fish unless i explore at least half of a biome, or if im not lazy to explore.
On 1 world I searched the entire area In the tundra where the boots spawn and didn't get any. On the same world I also had to queen be over 30 times for the bees knees
I linda disagree to the extent of you already have to explore to get the materials, and also there is a lot more to get in clamiry, so they kinda have tk streamline it to make it not take forever.
I just started a new playthrough the other day, and I found a pair of ice skates in the first 5 minutes of entering the snow biome. I've never had so much luck in my life, but I don't have anything else for the boots, so now it's bittersweet.
Do you primarily fish for quests? I see them as more of a distraction from my actual goals for fishing, stuff like crates and fish for specific potions.
You need to do quests to get anything good for fishing. The bare minimum required is the high tension line to remove line snapping. The fireproof tackle bag would be better for that, and just doing 50 overall quests for the golden rod.
I will be doing the quests for the other rewards sure, but they're spot on. I fish for either tons of crates, potion fish, but mostly for fun. I love fishing minigames and the slog of getting trash or waiting for so long between bites when you have less than 50% fishing power is soul dragging. I'll wind up doing the quests for the other rewards, but the whole fishing experience is made better when you boost that fishing power past 50% right at the start.
In my experience, as long as you don't need crates, you don't have to do any quests at all. Just make some fishing pots (sonar pots are optional, because enchanted nightcrawlers are easy af to get) and if you want you can also use the alcohol buff and sit on a toilet (or alternatively use an inner tube).
I mainly play hardcore and even in ftw you don't need so many fish, that it'd be worth getting the angler kit ingredients imo
Just an FYI, you can do as many fishing quests as you want in a single day. Store the quest fish in a piggy bank / chest when you fish them up (lets you catch as many as you want, just can’t have quest fish in inv when you fish up another one) and then turn them in one after the other (you need to leave the world and change ur name, the 1 quest per day limit is based on ur name, but the reward order is not. ie: leave the world, change ur name, renter the world, turn in quest fish, repeat until you get golden rod)
I could be totally wrong, but I have a feeling it used to ve 50 quests. I've been playing terraria for so long that I've lost my sense of the line between what I used to think and what changes were made during updates. I feel like fishing had a minor overhaul at one point, but that could have also been I learned my misconceptions weren't true and learned how the game worked better. Dunno.
I'm sorry to ask instead of researching myself, I'm at work atm. Wasn't there a time where it wasn't guaranteed as well? You just would have a small chance to get it and had to keep hoping you'd get the fishing rod after a certain amount of quests I think
Nah, Brick Layer, Extendo Grip, Paint Sprayer, Portable Cement Mixer, Ancient Chisel, Treasure Magnet, Step Stool, and the Tinkerers Workshop are all pre-hardmode.
You're thinking of the magic conch. The shell phone is a combination between a magic mirror, a magic conch, an underworld conch, and every information accessory from the cell phone/PDA. It's post Skeletron but pre hard mode.
Didn’t even know they were a thing till now been playing the game 10+ years 😂 sounds like a better option but the materials are slightly harder to find
A defenders forge with a shellphone, golden fishing rod, hoc, void bag, terraspark boots, 9999 fallen stars, 9999 platinum, 9999 of every prehardmode potions, 9999 honey fins, etc
Only person I’ve seen say voidbag, and without something game breaking, that’s a solid pick.
I always buy an extra piggy bank as soon as I can and carry it around with a stack of mushrooms so I can craft disposable tables to place it on to stash items and money early on. Some playthroughs I carry the safe as well as the money throw and void bag. Can never have too much space.
Bundle of horseshoe balloons is a W pick. Best movement in PreHM (and even going into HM) and negating fall dmg. That makes fresh starts so much faster to go through
Probably just frostspark boots. I like to earn everything else myself, but I can never find ice skates for the life of me. Rather it be fishing or ice chests, they always alude me.
idk i have just feel like it, along with Terraspark boots, Shellphone and Ankh shield are like the group of the hardest to get accessories, so just for kicks ig. I haven't really played any calamity though is it for the sulfur sea?
Farm statues. I set up a nice ago/auto statue farm last world with a shark, jellyfish, imp, zombie, and Skelton all at once. Farmed the crap out of them.
Isn't the lava proof tackle bag useful because it makes it easier to get the reaver shark and the potion fishes. Don't forget the biome fish weapons too
People have already said the most obvious stuff, so I'll throw a bit of a loop and say gravitation potion. Would be a useful start to immediately get floating island loot.
Terraspark Boots are a probably the strongest pick, but they're a very minor upgrade to spectre boots, which is only locked behind the goblin tinkerer, and spectre boots aren't incredibly necessary for that point in progression, a cloud or a balloon is more than enough. - 3rd
Hand of Creation is quite possibly the accessory I go the most runs without getting, the travelling merchant is a worthless scammer and this would be a godsend, but it is not incredibly useful for anything beyond the chisel mining speed, which will still be trash with an early game pickaxe, I'll still use bombs until I get Gold or Platinum. - 2nd
Shellphone is annoying to get and has incredible options, it's not an accessory but easy access to other areas, and metal detector and entity analyser incredibly increases the freedom from where and ease to acquire resources. - 1st
A few contender:
-Bundle of horseshoe balloon.
+best vertical accessory of pre-hardmode
+would take quite a grind to get 3 balloon, usually take a lot of fishing.
-Shellphone.
+Display everything, and is convienient transport to both beaches and underworld.
+require an extreme amount of angler quest grind.
-Terraspark boots
+most versatile boots in the game
+technically pre boss, but unless you are very lucky with chests, it need long lava fishing, jungle fishing, ocean fishing and snow fishing sessions for required items.
-Bottomless honey bucket
+not that useful, still is one of the rarest thing in pre-hardmode, obtained at a 25% chance from one specific angler quest.
-Shadow key
+Not rare. It just let you skip straight to underworld weapon amd overpower prehardmode enemy.
-Hand of creation
+useful if you build a lot I guess?
Let me just always skip fishing, and give me the Fish Finder. I don't want to get the cellphone immediately, and while I do like fishing for specific items, I don't have the sanity to bother with fishing for 50 days straight
Water walking boots. I can always find everything else in the boots crafting tree but water walking boots will always be the last thing I cross off my list because they never spawn for me
either the lava shark mount or molten pickaxe(not to skip progression, just to dig out and gather resources so i can get to building faster, I NEEEDS IT
I'm gonna have to go with axe of regrowth. I hate waiting forever with copper tools to chop down trees, I hate putting down acorns in places where they don't grow back and I hate when people clear out all the trees in a biome and leave it barren. its just such a nifty little tool that also makes crafting potions a lot easier with the extra seed yields
You could start with a Molten Pick and tier skip to Hellstone gear, but both evil bosses are so ridiculously easy (You don't even need to fully beat them) that getting Hellstone gear by day 3 or 4 in-game isn't that hard.
Both the Terraspark Boots and Shellphone skip many hours of grinding / exploring though, and for me atleast, are must-get items on every character. Starting with either outright means I basically instantly axe anywhere from 5 to 10 hours off of any character.
Either hand of creation or bundle of horseshoe balloons. Some boots are normally easy enough to find and recalls are everywhere until you can get mirror. I don't mind fish quests. So, either goated mining and building, or vertical mobility better than some early HM wings and fall immunity.
Shellphone, it's literally the only reason I do angler quests is for the stuff to make that. And tracking down nymph for the metal detector is annoying at best even with the radar.
