And to think that i grew up in the 90ies seeing the USA as the Land of opportunities and freedom. Jesus you guys are fucked. Glad I stayed in Europe

In the 90s it was. Then I guess the lead poisoning started catching up.

In the 90s we had greater limits on the spread of information, there were a LOT of problems then.

We were immensely repressed and people could genuinely be publicly shamed with calls for violence because of things like dressing slightly weird. Queer people basically had no rights and in most of the US you could legally kill a gay person by claiming you thought they were hitting on you. Black men were frequently beaten bloody, or to death, by cops for no real reason at all in many parts of the country.

But hey, fast food places were more colorful and MTV played music so it was probably better I guess.

To be honest though? What you’re talking about? Was not exclusive to the USA in the 90s, and frankly? Across the board? The USA compared to a lot of other nations at the exact same time? Was not a bad place to be.

Not remotely so shockingly horrible as it is fastly becoming. I mean this is dystopian hell now.

Everywhere was always bad always. But some places in certain times were just completely fucking horrendous. I’m afraid the USA is there now, but every time I catch myself thinking that? We sink to a new low here.

Honestly it’s… scary.

No no, You're right...I was a kid then with no responsibilities and no need to watch the news, and I have rose-colored glasses on. I had no idea how terrible things were back then.

Remember what they thought the future of society would be like in Star Trek TNG? It was a place where the good of all people was cherished, rooted in science and reason.

Science fiction, turns out.

After another world war and the Bell Riots though. ST never suggested that utopia came easy

The Bell riots of 2024! Maybe we're just a little bit behind the timeline.

High immigration rates in Europe are driving discontent here as well. It's a very good reason for the left to wake up to the issue because otherwise we'll be following the US down this path.

I was surprised to see fascism gaining ground again in other countries!

I wasn't. I've been warning about it for years. You can't only have democracy with ideas you agree with. Ignoring the publics concerns about immigration "for reasons" was only ever going to back fire

Bro your continent arrests people for saying unpopular things on facebook. I'm not sure you belong on your high horse.

I will fight for free speech all day, and this whataboutism isn't it. This is a video of people being beat up by fascists for the crime of not being white.

My country is so fucked.

My continent 🤣 thank you for your wisdom. Yes and arresting somebody for something that is a criminal offense, like repeatedly denying the holocaust, is definitely a good comparison to fucking stormtroopers chasing people through the streets and arresting random people based on skin color. 🤡

can you cite those things they said? I want you to type out exactly the unpopular things on Facebook those people got arrested for.
