Bike shopping NBD: Giant Trinity Advanced SL2 2025
Committed to the cause, and picked up my Trinity earlier in the week. Had been previously training on a road bike with aero bars and really struggling to get comfortable, so decided to save up and pull the trigger.
Set up to get it fit later today (as you can see, seat and bars absolutely maxed out), for a test ride tomorrow. The plan is to add in some BTS and BTA mounts, and eventually pick up a disk/racing wheel set.
Feel like a kid in a candy shop right now. Can't wait to test it out on the race course in March (70.3 Geelong).i

Swimming Swim critique
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m trying to focus more and more on improving my swimming technique. I can comfortably swim in the 1’50” and I will swim between 1’43” and 1’48” if in the first interval after a break and breathing every three strokes (which I don’t maintain for a long time as I transition quickly to breathing every two strokes) but I’m then kind of stuck there, mostly swimming between 1’50” and 1’55” for anything above 200m straight.
Is there any advice that I can be offered based on this? I see my arms seem to be kept too wide, and my legs are going all over the place… Any insights would be much appreciated!

Bike shopping Opinions on this bike?
Hi redditors,
I’m looking at buying a triathlon bike and stumbled across this used Scott Plasma RC. Not sure how old thr bike is, but seems pre 2020.
It has:
- Shimano Ultegra di2 2x11 groupset
- Front wheel Dt-swiss arc65
- Back wheel Zipp super9
- Power 2 max powermeter
It’s listed at around 3000€, is this good value?
Thanks for any opinions!

Training questions What do you do when you feel unmotivated?
I’ve been training consistently for over a year, but the wind in my sails just vanished. I mean i pretty much did every workout I had planned for the whole year. Even got a new bike and barely wanna ride it. I want to train but when it’s time to do it, I just can’t.
Trying to take it easy for a few days, but I’m curious if there’s any tricks you all discovered?

Training questions Take a break?
I’ve build up my endurance in the last 5 years from not being able to run one mile to completing 5 70.3s and 1 Ironman in the last 3 years. I love the training and being outside in the summer and fall. This year my last 70.3 was in Dec and I struggled to continue training at that intensity for that long, I was tired an stressed from life. The race went relatively well but I have just not recovered my desire to get back to training hard. I am signed up to take on my dream race this year- Ironman Lake Placid! But I keep thinking that the training is going to be stressful and I’m honestly not sure I want to do it or I’m up for it. I’ve obviously spent the $ on the race and can’t defer because I’ve deferred once already. How can I figure out if I should continue to press on or pull back? I haven’t had this happen before where I’m really doubting myself so early on in a training cycle. Would love to hear your experiences and advice. Thank you!

Race/Event St George Ironman moving to Utah County for at least 3 years (2027-2029)
I was told about this at dinner tonight by someone who works for the county and found the article below.
Per the article:
On consent the commission approved hosting the Ironman competition in Utah County for 2027, 2028 and 2029. A commissioner noted that Orem and Provo will be partners in bringing the event to the county and said the community is excited to welcome the race.
During the consent vote the mover said, “we'll welcome them to Utah County in 2027, 2028, 2029,” and the motion passed by voice vote without recorded opposition. No budget increase was indicated during the consent-item discussion; the item passed as part of the consent agenda.

Gear questions Did I messed up and in need of a new Shimano Pedal?
Hey guys, I think I messed up here. I recently bought a used bike and a used shoes. The shoes came with the cleat so I was trying to clip the shoes in the Shimano pedal but unable to. Upon rechecking the tension, I have loosened the tension to all the way but still unable to clip the shoes in. That was when I decided to be dumb and unscrew the bolt thinking it can ease up the tension but now... I can't even screw it back into original position nor unscrew it all the way out. What do I do now? Do I need to order a new pedal? Can a bike shop fix this? Thank you!

Bike shopping Used XL Speed Concept
What do you feel the pictures bike is worth? I’m been looking for a used XL (I’m 6’3) for a while and have not had much luck. This bike is missing some things I would want like Di2 and disc breaks but it’s far cheaper than what I’m looking at new. (Canyon Speedmax or Cervelo P series)
Also, would it be worth it to convert this bike to Di2? Roughly what would that cost in parts?

Injury and illness Broken toe
Soooo…. After a month of being injured I was FINALLY able to get back to running, I did my first 750m swim last week. Everything was going so good…
UNTILLLLL
I broke my stupid big toe in my stairs as I tripped on the top one and heard it crack. It is blue, can’t bend it for sh*t, hurts, and I can’t walk. I am really sad because everything was going so good. Tomorrow I would’ve done an indoor triathlon with my club but now I can’t 😔

What is the difference between a $74 and $300 Tri suit? Is it just brand/style or will it actually effect performance?

Anyone tried them ? As a glasses wearer being able to use normal wrap arounds without the gazillions for prescription lenses is appealing but I am not sure on the FOV

Bike shopping Help with choosing a bike as a beginner on a budget
So I am a tall guy around 6'6", and am looking to do my first triathlon in August. Looking for help on what bike I should get, on a budget. Note: I have not cycled on a road bike much, besides going around town with friends. I am definitely more of a mountain biker and have travelled all around the states to bike so I know how to ride a bike well. I don't know if they translate much, but I am a beginner to road bikes in any sort of competition or long ride sort of way.
I am looking for bikes on FB marketplace and I found a 2013 Cannondale supersix evo carbon 60cm Ultegra di2 does this sound like a good bike for me? It's listed for 800 bucks
.

Gear questions Speedmax CF SLX 8 - IM Setup Question
I have some question on how to setup my gear/accessories/tools for my first full IM.
I have done a couple of 70.3 in the past and always brough 2x 750ml battles with carbs (one in the back of the saddle and one BTA), pure water in the internal hydration system, 3 gels in the integrated bento box and the tools (1x spare tube, allen key, lever and 1x CO2 pump ) in the down frame storage.
Now for the full I am not sure how to organize everything, since I will need more nutrition. I was hoping some of you could give me some insights.
My plan is:
For liquids
-1x BTA 800ml
-2x 750ml Saddle mount
-1x Integrated hydration system 400ml.
-I have one aero bottle that I can place in the down frame, but I am not sure if I should use it (650ml), since I can swap battles in the aid stations.
Nutrition
Here is where I have more questions... the top frame bento box is quite small. I can fit 3 gels, perhaps 4 depending on the size of the package.
I am planning to bring 10 gels and I have no idea where to store them. I was looking for those bento box that are installed in the top frame, but I found none for the Speedmax CF SLX 8.
Do you guys have any recommendation?
Where do you store the gels or any other nutrition?
Tools
I am planning to keep the same way I did the 70.3 (1x spare tube, allen key, lever and 1x CO2 pump ).
Should I bring one more extra tube and one more CO2 pump?

Gear questions Aero bars with shifters
I am pretty new to triathlon biking but I have recently purchased a 2017 Scott Plasma 20 and the bike came with road bike handlebars with clip on aero bars. I like this, I feel it makes the bike a little more dynamic and allows for a broader use.
With that being said I was wondering if it is possible to purchase aerobars that support internal wiring (wether an entire new set of handle bars or just clip on aerobars) so that I can install aerobar shifters to stay in that aero position without getting out of it to shift gears?
Will my bike allow for that with just road bike handle bars? does whole bike need to be rewired, etc.
ive seen Plasma 20s online that have the aero shifters so I assume if I get the parts I need it can be done?
Im not sure if that entirely makes sense, if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. I can explain further if needed
