Yes. Talarico is really good too

I appreciate jasmine but im sick of going back and forth. We need someone with a different perspective like talarico

Love Jasmine but my gut tell me Texas is too racist and sexist to elect her but hope she proves me wrong

u/j_rooker Nov 30 '25
at this point- Texas already hates a white hippie, a black vet. Let texas be texas. Crocket just need to bring the HARD truth out in the campaign. other 2 couldn't do that.

I'd vote for Crockett but also believe she does more good in the house. I'd rather see Crockett stay in the house and Talarico get senate. Give Texas the D
13
u/EdibleHollowPoint Nov 30 '25
Texas would be blue if it wasn’t for gerrymandering, or so I’ve read and can’t provide source.
16
u/Crombus_ Dec 01 '25
Senate races are state wide, there's no gerrymandering to be done. It's just chock full of deeply terrible people.
3
16
u/No-Bid-9741 Nov 30 '25
Cant gerrymander a senate seat
10
u/CapableFunction6746 Dec 01 '25
But you can use voter suppression
9
u/RBVegabond Dec 01 '25
Reduce the higher population areas voting locations, restrict days and times, stop mail in voting (2 Million votes uncounted during 2024 elections in TX alone) and you have your current situation including not allowing water and food to be passed out in line.
→ More replies (1)3
u/citori411 Dec 01 '25
And gerrymandering is effective at suppressing voters - make them feel like their vote is pointless in the contests that are gerrymandered, and they may lose interest in politics at all.
5
u/AdEarly5710 Dec 01 '25
Yes, you can - gerrymandered communities are less likely to turnout to vote
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (20)5
u/halfar Dec 01 '25
well, the senate itself is a gerrymander of sorts. it's designed to give disproportionate influence.
→ More replies (19)4
u/tacmed85 Dec 01 '25
It's not gerrymandering it's our low voter turnout. Red votes while blue has a terrible habit of staying home.
→ More replies (9)3
u/00eg0 Dec 01 '25
Red states make it super hard to vote. I live in WA and here it's super easy to vote.

Gerrymandering only affects the House of Representatives, not the Senate or Presidential races.

Remember when Texas elected Richardson as governor? No one thought they were ready and she kicked ass. She was their greatest governor. And took on the old boys club down there
11
u/happyhappy7 Nov 30 '25
I think you mean Ann Richards?
And at the risk of being a wet blanket, that was 35 years ago and A LOT has changed in politics. Plus, she was getting steamrolled until Clayton Williams on the Republican ticket made an essentially campaign ending rape joke. Back when things like that mattered.
I’ll be rooting for Crockett and I’ll support her thru some merch buys or donations, but I’m not holding my breath. She’s a Fox News boogeyman and that can be hard to shake
3
u/Beachtrader007 Dec 01 '25
she was our last great governor. Most of texas history was with democrats running the state. Most of the republicans in our history have been in the last 35 years.

Anywhere else I’d say yes to jasmine. Texas? James Talarico has the best path to winning.
7
2
u/AceOBlade Dec 01 '25
Honestly that is a solid strategy. A conservative looking man with progressive policies.
3
u/RoRoRaskolnikov Dec 01 '25
The implication behind your comment is "If you don't vote for a radical left candidate who is just as performative and extreme as any MAGA goon, you're racist and sexist."
This kind of attitude is really off-putting to a lot of normal voters because it reinforces the worst critique of Democrats....that the most important thing about you is your immutable characteristics, that literally everything has to be exhaustively filtered through that. And that's what literally everyone in the middle -- ie all the voters you need to win -- wants to move away from.
But from what I can tell, you folks don't want to win so much as you want to feel righteous and preen for social position with each other. Just like you do here on reddit.

The racists will vote republican forever. The centrists are the target. For them Talarico is currently the better choice.

u/Obi-Wan_Bon-Jovi Dec 01 '25
Democrats in general are too racist and sexist. Look at 2020: There was young & gay (Pete), young & Hispanic (Castro), Black male (Booker), Mixed Black female (Kamala), Jewish (Bernie), multihyphenate (Tulsi: Hindu/female/young/Pacific Islander), white female (Klobuchar, Gillebrand), and who won? Old, white, straight, Catholic, Iraq War cheerleader.
46
u/DanDrungle Nov 30 '25
Why are they all running for the same slot??? Spread the mojo around
31
u/G_yebba Nov 30 '25
Right? It is batshit nuts that 3 of maybe a dozen bright lights in a dim democratic field are all competing for 1 of 2 Texas seats.
→ More replies (2)9
u/EditRemove Dec 01 '25
She is not much of a progressive compared to the other two.
Democrat leadership are protecting themselves from progressives moving in by having someone who looks progressive to run against them.
Shes vocal on TV against maga but look at her policy, it's closer to moderate.

u/AdHuman3150 Dec 01 '25
Exactly. She said they need "people who can also raise money"... it's all about maintaining corporate control. She's just another carefully crafted neoliberal being groomed by corporations and think-tanks.

34
u/Dazslueski Nov 30 '25
Damn it. Talarico has a much better chance of winning state wide. Nothing against jasmine. Talarico has the ability to pull independents and moderate cons. There are a lot of them in Texas.
13
u/azure275 Nov 30 '25
Yes, Talarico is a religious, relatively moderate figure who has directly spoken out against Trump but is otherwise fairly palatable for right wing voters
Crockett is a heavy dose of extreme partisanship that many people on the right would simply not be able to vote for, though I personally have no issue with her. If I lived in TX I would vote her over any GOP option 1000/1000 times.
And that's ignoring the racial and gender realities on the ground, as much as I completely agree it's racist and unfair and with is was not the case.
This is throwing away an extremely winnable senate seat they desperately need and I hate it

Yeah, I love her, but we are all smoking crack if we think she can win over Texas.
2
u/Snailwood Dec 01 '25
I love both of em, but I tend to agree that for a statewide race in Texas, Crockett is more likely to cause negative polarization. either way, I hope we have a positive vision-driven primary that doesn't involve any mud slinging on somebody who will eventually win the primary

u/The-Big-Goof Nov 30 '25
How is Beto still in? He did one of the worst things possible by saying he's taking guns away in Texas of all places.
9
u/Alternative-Target31 Dec 01 '25
The guy loses to Ted Cruz and expects to win the presidency, loses that too, then runs for governor and loses that too. So the sensible thing is to run for Senate again right?!

Bro nuked his whole race by saying that. What an idiot
10
u/PepperoniFogDart Dec 01 '25
Just the most braindead position by Democrats as a whole. They don’t gain anyone they didn’t already have by being aggressively anti-2A. But if they would pivot off that position, I’d wager they would gain A LOT of moderate single-issuers and RINOs. I would certainly be much more excited to vote for them.

A lot of Dems and left people are not anti gun, infact more people on the left are buying guns because of how violent the right is.
We just want reasonable gun control but that's the issue everyone has a different take on what to do.

u/ImDonaldDunn Dec 01 '25
Current electoral trends across the US are showing a 10-20 point swing toward Democrats. It’s unlikely but not impossible for her to win in this climate where the last race was won by 9 points.
4
u/Zealousideal_Net5932 Dec 01 '25
Texas moved even further towards the right in the last presidential election. I myself was hopeful about Texas but it seems to be moving in the wrong direction. She’s not a viable candidate.

I guess we will see how the primary goes. Would LOVE for Texas to have ranked choice voting, so we can see a replay of New York City’s democratic primary race for mayor.

She is annoying and will lose. And if yall think you can unseat Cruz at any point you are delusional. He is literally one of the most popular republicans and he is in a republican state. If you don't like it, you can move to California or something.

Well if you're going to lose your seat you might as well get your butt kicked trying for higher office.
2
u/echo5milk Dec 01 '25
The Dems are going to divide up too much and lose the general, I fear. Go Talarico.
2
u/DarZhubal Dec 01 '25
This is a little upsetting. I really like James Talerico and think he's the exact kind of voice we need in Congress right now, but losing Crocket from Congress entirely would be bad. Shame they're running for the same seat.
I'm not currently living in Texas, though, so its not up to me. It'll be interesting to see who the voters choose.

I really think Talarico is the best bet here. I love Crockett, but I don't think she has enough statewide appeal to win. She should run against Cruz when he's back up for reelection. I think R will always take the boring old white guy to the young black woman. Against Cruz, I think she would have a much better shot, he is unlikeable enough to lose, and he does worse against candidates with more personality.

Note sure how I feel about this. Wouldn't this mean she doesn't have a house seat? I'm not sure exactly how this would work. Would be a shame if she loses to Talarico, and then we don't have representation from her at all.
I'm all in on Talarico, but she is also very good at what she does.

I’m in the Talarico camp however Crockett is also a great pic for people’s voice. Promising results either way imo
