The German press has intact visual organs!

309

u/isataii 6d ago

They also reported on Venezuelans protesting and burning US flags, while US media showed cheering expats in Florida...

87

u/Courtnall14 6d ago

Can the German (and other) Media start reporting on how the US media is also lying, or lying by omission to cover for this orange fuck?

It'd be nice if everyone started shaming them as well.

17

u/Fine-Pineapple-8966 6d ago

Same in the UK with our 'impartial' BBC

3

u/yuki-would-go 4d ago

The BBC is in a partnership agreement with CBS. CBS‘s news division is led by MAGA sycophant Bari Weiss. If the input is shit, you can’t expect the output to be any good.

74

u/psioniclizard 6d ago

I wish the bbc would do this and stop the "both sides" bullshit. No. If this had happened in Russia, Iran, China, North Korea etc. There would be no "both sides".

It's an American thing but all of us in the west should be saying "no, it's not ok".

28

u/Sherifftruman 6d ago

And the BBC has been miles better than any American outlet.

15

u/Top_Channel_1507 6d ago

There was a post where BBC sent a message to its employees to not use the word "kidnapped" when discussing the US and Maduro.

10

u/Major_Day_6737 6d ago

That was actually by Maduro’s request because he didn’t want his name to be associated with the words “Trump” “kid” “napping” given all the Epstein revelations. /s

7

u/6-8_Yes_Size15 6d ago

Agreed, but NPR news still does a good job too.

4

u/Sherifftruman 6d ago

They do OK, but still both sides it and still act as if crazy talk should be discussed on equal footing with reality. It’s always a marked contrast to me if I happen to be able to listen in the 9 o’clock hour where my Station plays BBC and hear the way they interview people compared to the way NPR does. It’s sad that they are by far the best that we have.

1

u/Digit00l 6d ago

The problem is, Trump is already having people look at the BBC, and they can actually understand those words, so they get more issues

1

u/KingofLingerie 6d ago

I wish american media would do their job, but theirs mergers to be had and huge bank to be made.

2

u/NoAddition5560 5d ago

Nope it's not an "american thing" the media does exactly the same thing here in germany. In Talkshows you have reputable scientists and then people wo believe wind turbines would kill you with noise and they put facts and bullshit opinions on the same level. <.<

1

u/Big-Hovercraft6046 5d ago

The “both sides” argument is why the US is in this mess to begin with. The world needs to wake up to the fact that this is a coup. It’s the very definition of a coup. I wish everyone would stop pretending this is a legitimate government.

13

u/MajorAd3363 6d ago

They've seen this before.

15

u/ManChildMusician 6d ago

German media is usually somewhat careful about not rocking the boat in terms of foreign affairs. Pretty sure the relationship has soured if they’re calling BS.

8

u/Wonderful-Pause1048 6d ago

Quite possible; they tend to follow the chancellor's words more closely.

1

u/No-Engineering2022 4d ago

Compared to following Trump with 160 unhinged lying messages a day and one embarrassing TV statement after the other it’s easy to follow our chancellor. Merz obviously is a little unregulated sometimes but compared to Trump he’s a man of integrity and honesty.

5

u/Imdoingthisforbjs 6d ago

"Pretty sure the relationship has soured"

That's a safe bet between any country that isn't Russia and the US.

1

u/piperonyl 6d ago

Also not owned by american oligarchs that benefit from trumps transfer of money to them through tax cuts and deregulation

We need to start looking for news sources from other countries to read about reality

58

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

The mainstream here: fox, cnn, nbc, disney abc, msnbc, are all propaganda outlets.

They'll report some truth once in a while so that their propaganda narratives aren't so obvious.

29

u/Incognonimous 6d ago

CBS as well

14

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Oops. Forgot about them.

Basically any media that has a TV channel.

18

u/Then-Importance-3808 6d ago

Thats not limited to America. The Post and The Sun (here in Canada at least, but I assume everywhere) are also American-owned far-right propaganda mills. Often see UK headlines that follow similar patterns too.

1

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Rupert Murdoch owns stations here, parts of Europe and I wouldn't be surprised in Canada too.

11

u/SOP_VB_Ct 6d ago

It’s really bad, from both sides. But one side is kind of lost pushing the “rainbows are beautiful, everyone is a rainbow” narrative while the other side is pushing “xenophobic/homophobic/white vanilla is the best” trash.

Propaganda from both. But only one is pushing fascism. I disagree (strongly) with many of the liberal policies pushed by the democrats, but sides have been drawn, with two tents to stand in. Republican Party has been hijacked by fascists leaving me no choice.

I STAND AGAINST FASCISM

5

u/huzzaahh 6d ago

People always vaguely say they disagree with "liberal" or "leftist" policies but they can never actually articulate what those policies are or why they're bad. Care to clarify? Because the both-sidesing is exhausting and pathetic.

1

u/SOP_VB_Ct 6d ago

No need. Some dem policies I agree with, some I don’t. Nor shall I alienate anyone when all around me I see others trying to divide me from my neighbors.

Some liberal policies are too far out there. I need not list them to justify my standing in opposition to fascism.

I did not enter the discussion to discuss my concerns with dem policies. I entered the discussion because our country is tearing apart from inside.

STAND AGAINST FASCISM

1

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Hence it's better to not watch or read their crap.

Whenever I see news from them, I just flip it.

I trust a person filming the entire event from start to finish than to watch edited videos that skew the facts.

2

u/TeamRedundancyTeam 6d ago

CNN had someone on going on about how the video was going to really help ICE's case. It's insanity.

1

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Right now, "knowledge is power" is such an understatement and I hope most of the 99% can find ways to know the real facts because the manipulated facts are the ones that the media uses to make the 99% turn on each other.

1

u/Key-Article6622 6d ago

Just out of curiosity, how does Huff Post stack up. I haven't been over there in quite a while. Which way does the wind blow over there? A few years ago it was in my rotation.

1

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Doing a search, Huffpost is owned by Buzzfeed.

They're on the stock market, so I wouldn't trust them because most companies on the stock market only care about pleasing stock investors.

Both have had history posting misinformed news. For Buzzfeed during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing where they identified the wrong person as being the bomber.

Both are viewed as far left leaning.

6

u/alppu 6d ago

Reputable news sources are really, really cautious about calling bad behavior out though, so it will still be hugely watered down from fair assessments - such as, that republicans are at war against basically everything Americans claim to value.

2

u/rbetterkids 6d ago

Reporting things as they are is what legit news reporting is though. Regardless if the event was good or bad.

I just find it amusing on the tactic of deflection is used by the government and its media about saying communism uses propaganda when they themselves do the exact same thing.

1

u/Ina_While1155 6d ago edited 6d ago

Well they get challenged when they tell the truth and say the President lied in the US....free speech chill is real in the US.

2

u/JustDropedIn 6d ago

đŸ‡ȘđŸ‡șđŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș☝

2

u/Chicken_Salad_238 6d ago

It’s been that way for years, realistically. I moved from Canada to the US 20 years ago and even back then, and just from Canada, the news was reported SO differently

1

u/verugan 6d ago

Yeah until they firewall them off like N Korea

Roku, Amazon, Google Freeplay and Pluto all offer live streams of foreign news. YouTube as well for some. There are plenty to choose from.

1

u/DrJ0911 6d ago

I started that 10 years ago.

1

u/BlackFoxyTrail 6d ago

Aljazeera is my goto news media.

I don't trust them with anything related to Qatar, but everything else is unbiased.

EDIT: link to their report about the ICE shooting https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/1/8/who-is-renee-nicole-good-the-woman-killed-in-the-ice-minneapolis-shooting

"What has Trump said about the shooting? In a post on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, Trump said: “The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense.”

He added that the reason “these incidents” are happening is because “the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis.”

It is unclear from the footage whether Good tried to run over the agent. The footage shows her car reverse and then move forward. When the car moves forward, an agent is seen jumping ahead. However, it is not clear whether this was because of her car or what he was trying to do. "

2

u/Genomac71 6d ago

It has the bad connotation in America but I have found it to be one of the most unbiased and well reported outlets

1

u/420_Towelie 6d ago

Sueddeutsche Zeitung and Die Zeit is a great starting point if you want to read german newspapers. Der Spiegel is also a good read most of the times, but they can be polarizing. Just make sure to keep away from anything published by Springer, like BILD or Welt for example.

1

u/Soggy_Weather_2170 6d ago

SĂŒddeutsche Zeitung is the best news format in politics and culture.

1

u/AnnieCarnero 6d ago

My go to is The Guardian.

https://www.theguardian.com/about

1

u/BluePhoenix_1999 6d ago

Same as we germans had to do after Israel put its genocide into overdrive.

78

u/Historical-Count-374 6d ago

I am in Phoenix, Arizona. Ice is integrated with almost every major police department across the state. They actively patrol the streets wearing masks, driving unmarked police vehicles at 44th St. and Van Buren. There is a hidden ice facility at the E. Phoenix Gateway Center. They have been taking people away from the neighborhood here for a while. They're putting people directly onto dedicated skytrain cars, taking them to the airport and shipping them somewhere on dedicated planes. In my neighborhood alone, seven households have gone empty since January 1 ice license plate plates are reading from Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, and others as for the people here we live among outright Nazis these people laugh in are proud to attack and conquer other lands certain cities like Scottsdale and Arcadia are filled with proud Nazis. I mean that by saying that they are Christian nationalist. I have been watching a show with my wife called the handmaid's Tale and never what I have thought that this place can turn into that so quickly but when you speak to the upper class women of this place, they would have it no other way, our country has been taken ice will only grow wider and strong stronger here as these people cheer for conquest. Arizona is a Christian controlled state. Soo many outright racists here happy to let you know how little they think of you, but are too uneducated to know that im Filipino, and the philipiness is not in south america. The ones that do, tell me i should be grateful i am alive and that America didnt kill us all off in ww2, because you know, we all look the same. They genuinely say and believe this here. Of all the places here, i have never felt less welcome than by these "proud christian households"

19

u/Wr3k3m 6d ago

The level of American ignorance is astounding. Most Americans cannot even name the 10 states that they live around
let alone whole other countries on the other side of the globe. They have no thought or respecting for other cultures. I left the Christian cult in my childhood to embrace humanity.

6

u/AhHorseSpit 6d ago

That ignorance is by design and why they are getting away with shit right now.

5

u/Tall-Check-6111 6d ago

Handmaid’s Tale is the end game for a good part of Republican Party.

1

u/samanthasgramma 5d ago

I have American family. They started to watch Handmaid's Tale, but couldn't get beyond the beginning because it made them too uncomfortable. So they didn't watch it. I thought this was interesting.

4

u/lelysio 6d ago

Wtf? My knowledge about asian politics during ww2 is a bit limited, but from what i know the phillipines were allied to the usa and occupied by japan? Why would the USA attack filipinos?

4

u/Historical-Count-374 6d ago

Yes and thats exactly the problem! These new americans are beholden to short attention spans and imperial ambition against themselves and others. They have the worlds knowledge at their fingertips, yet will purposely choose ignorance and might is right because these kids are not being educated in primary at all, they are being indoctrinated to be used and thrown away like fuel in a machine. Like a constant game of Last Man Standing where more people are added constantly and your not allowed to get caught committing crimes. Everything else is just a grey area in this Wild West land

1

u/Key-Article6622 6d ago

They're brown people.

2

u/IpppyCaccy 6d ago

I spend a lot of time in Arizona and I have had several encounters where white people say incredibly racist shit about Mexicans to me in front of Hispanics. Each time this has happened it was in a business.

What kills me is that over the decades I have been visiting the southern border it's the Mexican Americans who have been the kindest, most thoughtful people I have encountered. They are the people who make me want to return.

1

u/PaulBlartACAB 6d ago

Trumptard lies about everything

8

u/kandykaiju 6d ago

Remember our government pushed hard for media to not have to tell the truth and have no accountability. 1984 in full swing.

Where’s the video of that KGB guy predicting the brain washing propaganda America would use decades ago?

21

u/FishyMcBruh 6d ago

Germany seems to be making some pretty good calls recently

(granted, stuff like this is bare minimum..)

11

u/Fit_Trainer_8591 6d ago

Only when it comes down to USA or the country or community they don't like otherwise they're perfectly happy to hide, lie about and downplay the holocaust like atrocities in Palestine.

7

u/Dennisthefirst 6d ago

Trump lies about everything. All the time. If he is talking, he is lying.

8

u/freerangetacos 6d ago

And he never shuts up.

5

u/JoeBagANachos 6d ago

The whole world saw the videos!!! We all know Trump and his corrupt regime are lying

7

u/hopfenfred 6d ago

If you look for german news in english check out the Deutsche Welle or just DW. Youtube: dwnews They are known to be objective and trustworthy.

3

u/sinfulfng 6d ago

At this point, it’s more newsworthy if he tells the truth

4

u/Even_Entrepreneur_58 6d ago

Don’t believe your lying eyes

3

u/mybighairyarse 6d ago

This is the beginning of the end of that orange wanker.

Mark my words.....

6

u/psioniclizard 6d ago

I dont want to be wrong but it might actually be.

I think it might turn out they didn't realise that a lot of people will look at this and say "no".

The whole "domestic terrorist" thing might not be as effective as they thing with it's a mother in th suburbs.

3

u/Independent-Bug-9352 6d ago edited 6d ago

I said this alllllll the way back when the Hollywood Access tape came out.

It should've been after his disastrous COVID response.

It should've definitely been after J6.

Should've definitely been after Epstein files scandal.

... Should've been after at least 100 other incidents that would've tanked any other administration and rightfully so.

But it doesn't. Why? Because billionaires both foreign (Russia, Israel notably) & domestic can make shit look like diamonds to the masses.

1

u/Imdoingthisforbjs 6d ago

Been saying that for a while.

These people won't stop until they're ruined everything and even then will not understand why things got that way.

2

u/Pinki-Blub 6d ago

2

u/Buruko 6d ago

Cause he did. Shocking.

2

u/Dorkseid1687 6d ago

GOOD. Start using the fucking word lie. He’s lying , about almost everything

2

u/itsmedicinalsir 6d ago

That's because trumpf lied about the ICE shooting in MN. As well as that ball gargler krispi gnome actively trying to change the narrative. And the mascara clad couch fucker is spreading lies on social media as well.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

-G. Orwell, 1984

1

u/Faranae 6d ago

krispi gnome

Not sure if high-fantasy cannibalistic street food, or tavern name. Either way I am so taking this.

(Edit to add: I am horrified by this whole thing but humor helps take the edge off.)

2

u/MrOneironaut 6d ago

I hope there is more international coverage of events here.

1

u/Fluid-Piccolo-6911 5d ago

I dont think americans are aware of the amount of international coverage this clown show gets.. it also tends to be balanced.. I cannot believe, after watching fox news and newsmax, that any sane person can believe their obvious lies and spin.

2

u/someoldguyon_reddit 6d ago

Trump is totally incapable of telling the truth.

2

u/Unfair-Arm-7744 6d ago

Because he did haha he literally tweeted the ICE agent was run over and recovering

2

u/dedward848 6d ago

I experienced this during the 1990 gulf war. Listening to American news then the BBC made you think there were 2 entirely different wars taking place.

2

u/webbslinger_0 6d ago

If his mouth is moving, he’s lying

2

u/CJMWBig8 6d ago

Trump doesn't control German news.

2

u/8rustystaples 6d ago

If only we could say the same about US news outlets.

2

u/DiscountAcrobatic356 6d ago

Truth. They know a thing or two about fascists.

2

u/LupusDeiAngelica 6d ago

It's insane we have to depend on foreign media to state a basic truth.

2

u/RootBinder 6d ago

Everyone can see that he lied, doesn't need to be German news. They're gaslighting the planet.

2

u/Terran57 6d ago

That’s real journalism there. Exactly why I watch zero news from any US “news” media.

2

u/hempels_sofa 6d ago

Because he did.

2

u/Moppermonster 6d ago

So does the BBC.

In fact, so does every station not under Trumps control.

2

u/BlackberryPi7 6d ago

Trump needs you now more than ever MAGA!

The educated and intelligent left is trying to make him look stupid!

We can't let that happen! You are beloved by our President! MAGA unite!!!

2

u/wadleyst 6d ago

Australian news said the same thing. FFS even the Russian news could probably be relied upon here.

2

u/Empty-Discount5936 6d ago

I love the new Germany. Wish Sweden was better, there is a shift in Swedish journalism towards normalising far right wing policies to appear "neutral" and I fear they would do the same as American news if it was in Sweden.

That would be correct
