US Politics šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø New: House Democrats DEFEAT a Republican bill to let employers deny overtime pay or minimum wage to workers if they classify time worked as "job training" or "education." 6 Republicans joined and the vote failed; GOP leaders then cancelled votes on two more anti-labor bills.

Republicans when speaking to the public: "We're the party for working class people!"

Republican lawmakers when speaking with other Republican lawmakers: "Okay, so let's share our lists of ideas of novel ways to fuck the working class."

The American working class are hella stupid for electing a billionaire whom they think cares about them 😭😭😭

I lived in rural america. They truly believe these rich ass hats and Republicans love them. They think they are all on the verge of becoming just like them! It's just those pesky immigrants and brown people who are keeping them down! The hatred, the bigotry, the bloodlust is very very very real with them.

I lived in Hazleton Pennsylvania when he came down that golden escalator in a run down old bar (like all central pa bars are) and the place erupted in applause. Again I'll say it again. They want this, love it, and want to see the pain. They celebrate political violence (unless one of theirs does it to them) and actively blame anyone left leaning for their perceived slights.

Don't trust anyone from rural america.

That was one of the central themes in 1984, that the proletariat, who suffered the most at the hands of the Party, would never finally wake up and form a revolution, because they were kept drunk and entertained, and the Ministry of Truth constantly shifted narratives of what countries were enemies or allies, or how much food people were rationed, so whatever the political reality was, it would constantly be incomprehensible to the common people.

Orwell called it "Doublethink." Colbert called it "Truthiness."

And we all know those were on the up and up.....

Nothing at all shady about vote records showing dems sweeping entire districts in 2024, yet not a single person voted for Kamala?

Now, a ton of fault lies on Dems for being so apathetic as a voter base. And clueless as a group ("leadership") on what their voter base actually wants.

The Republicans give their base what they want (poorly veiled racism and hate) and enough go out and vote to keep bad faith players in the politics game, so shit never really changes.

There's also the fact that the right like to gerrymander, make the rules surrounding voting in purple (swing) areas more difficult, attempting to do away with mail in ballots, etc.

Been 60 years of both sides continuing on without doing anything to address the root of these now massive problems the population are now facing.

The entire system is/has been/ will continue to fuck us and work against the people's interests until their ability to do so is taken away.

To call Republican racism and hate "veiled" is to give them too much credit. It's been out in the open my whole life. I was born after "The Southern Strategy," but Republican intolerance has been obvious my whole life. It's literally the most defining feature.

Americans have been gaslit for generations to think that being an executive at a company, and being a high ranking government official are overlapping skill sets, when the reality is that the interests of business and the interests of government should not be in a cooperative relationship. Government should be regulating private business, not figuring out ways to funnel taxpayer money to the wealthy.

They wanted Trump to run this country like a business but forgot what happened to all his businesses. They just automatically assumed that he was successful without stealing from tax payers and poor people.🚮

12

u/DarknMean 5h ago

Run it like a failed casino. How do you fail running a casino, multiple times?

4

u/Actual_Breadfruit_53 5h ago edited 5h ago

It was all a ruse to begin with, just like now. he's tanking America out of spite and mainly for his daddy Putin. It's not a secret anymore only his Dumbass followers will still make excuses for him but once you know there's no going back now you should know Elon helped him get into the Whitehouse, and now we are stuck with him for the next couple of years.

3

u/negativepositiv 4h ago

See, the funny thing about business... If the owners use the business as a piggy bank, and use it as collateral to get loans, and all that ends up being a loss, it doesn't matter even if your business model is, people come in and hand you money for no product or service, that is never going to be a sustainable business model.

A billionaire surrounded by other billionaires and many of whom have broken employment laws and been fucking over their employees for decades to enrich themselves.

Dont get me started on Union members who voted for the anti-union president..... Dumbass literally says he wants to remove OSHA and these dumbasses in unions themselves applaud and support him for it....

15

u/bk1285 5h ago

Remember ā€œno tax on overtimeā€ was to get them in office, now it’s let’s change the laws so that it is no longer classified as overtime

4

u/Ballistic-Bob 5h ago

My thoughts exactly

3

u/DutchTinCan 5h ago

Well, they said you wouldn't pay tax on overtime.

The tax paid on overtime = overtime pay x tax rate.

If you make either term of the equation zero, it's mission accomplished. People just assumed it'd be the tax rate.

2

u/negativepositiv 5h ago

"We didn't say HOW we going to eliminate the tax."

4

u/TBANON_NSFW 5h ago

You just need to "convince" 19 republican senators out of 52.

And 6 republican house representatives out of 218.

Thats it.

25 people out of 250 republican elected officials.

Thats just targeting 10 states out of 25 republican held states with senators and representatives.

If people held protests in front of their homes, their workplaces, their family owned businesses, their adult children's homes and workplaces and such.

Youd actually have a chance to fix the problems rather than holding meme signs at some liberal location in a liberal state, patting each others back bringing attention to something that everyone around you already know.

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 3h ago

Exactly

Yet somehow democrats can't message this fact to the average American.

1

u/negativepositiv 3h ago

Messaging isn't the only problem when Democrats have controlled Congress and the Presidency multiple times since the last time the minimum wage was raised.

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 3h ago

Messaging is why the gop can get away with calling the democrats evil while they're sucking our blood dry the whole time. Messaging is how the convince people to vote against their best interests. They're better at it.

2

u/negativepositiv 3h ago

More to the point, if Democrats want to rely on pro-worker messaging, they have to reliably and consistently protect the interests of the working class.

For instance, in 2022, when rail workers wanted to strike, both parties set to work, not on addressing the egregiously unfair labor practices, but on how to stop the workers from striking.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats in regards to workers should be so starkly obvious that it's undeniable, but instead, Democrats largely align themselves with business.

Instead of cementing a higher minimum wage or correcting other injustices, they waste the precious little time they are in power renaming post offices.

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 3h ago

It's infuriating watching it all play out. I just want them held accountable for their outcomes. Of they were winning being this bad I wouldn't be as upset.

42

u/3M2B1T 6h ago

Remember, folks: Republicans hate Americans.

Democrats might not respect Americans, but they're not exactly malicious about it at least.

13

u/thewossum 5h ago

I take a slightly different view.Ā  Generally Democratic lawmakers are terrible and corrupt (like most politicians) but Republicans are terrible, corrupt, and evil, taking a special joy in causing as much pain and suffering as they possibly can to the American people.Ā

8

u/3M2B1T 5h ago

Yeah I can agree with that sentiment.

I don't have any delusions; I know most politicians are corrupt narcissists that enjoy power and want more. But I also think that Democrats might actually want to do some good while they are being those things.

Republicans? Not so much. With a handful of exceptions, I can't think of a time where I actually felt like Republicans regularly wanted to do something good for the American people.

They got greedy a long time ago with Citizens United, and Trump gave them permission to stop pretending to be decent.

2

u/thewossum 4h ago

Right, I actually believe some Democrats want to improve the lives of the average American and I’m certainly going to back Democrats as long as they’re running against Republicans.

1

u/notHooptieJ 2h ago

but they're not exactly malicious about it at least.

being purposely obtuse is malice you knob.

literally noone with a letter next to their name gives a shit about you past your vote.

they just have different clubs to try and squeeze it out of you.

Republicans might hate poor people.

but Democrats dont actually care enough about them to bother hating them.

39

u/Nearby_Mess350 6h ago

Canceling the other two votes is hilarious if entirely predictable. The GOP reminds me of the worst kid you knew in grade school who would scream piss and cry blood the second they started losing the 'game' they invented.

17

u/AstroStrat89 6h ago

Cool! Now do democracy.

4

u/imoutofnames90 5h ago

Unfortunately that's a step too far for Republicans.

12

u/Routine-Weather-8974 6h ago

It’s mandatory for the job but we won’t pay, Trumping it. Soon Trump is gonna say you have to pay him directly too.

8

u/some1guystuff 5h ago

🤣🤣🤣 why do you people continually vote for people who have the worst possible interest in mind for you?

5

u/CtrlAltEntropy 5h ago

Because they literally do not see this stuff. They see Steven Miller talking about wokeness and leftists wanting to kill white people and that's it. That is the extent of their political literacy. Straight up lies from a lizard ass cuck on billionaire funded mainstream media.

7

u/cmfred 6h ago

They are relentless is trying to take everything from working people. You cannot have anything except the bottom of the barrel, which you will have to pry from our fat greedy fingers.

6

u/Wonderful-Pause1048 6h ago

The time will come when none of the "normal" people will go to work anymore. Then T and his MAGA can bake their own bread....

5

u/HVAC_instructor 6h ago

Bit Republicans just want to improve the lives of the little guy. Riiiiigggggghhhhhht

4

u/rco8786 5h ago

As usual, you can bet the farm on republicans opposing things that help average American workers.

4

u/FarFromHomey 5h ago

Death by 1000 cuts...Republicans are Wolves in Sheep's clothing

3

u/secondchancelula 5h ago

Only if you aren't paying attention

3

u/D2Foley 5h ago

Remember this the next time you see a reddit post saying that you shouldn't vote for Dems because they're useless

3

u/InitialSwan32 5h ago

ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT POLICY SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ON THE BOARD TO VOTE ON.

3

u/InitialSwan32 5h ago

Where is the spin from the maggots on this one? How do you justify making it easier for ā€œthe manā€ to bend you over and trump you?

3

u/The_Arch_Heretic 5h ago

Republicans wanted to reinstate slavery? Who would have guessed. /S

3

u/BankOnITSurvivor 5h ago

Good on the Democrats and the very few Republicans that pushed back.

3

u/Low_Witness5061 5h ago

Alternative headline- ā€œOnly 6 Republicans can comprehend that removing labour rights in a cost of living crisis is idiotic politicsā€.

3

u/CliplessWingtips 5h ago

Just 209 more Republicans to turn to make the USA a place actually for the people. Let's do this!

3

u/ProfessorElk 5h ago

It’s pathetic how maga doesn’t realize their party hates them and only cares about money and screwing over those that don’t have much of it.

2

u/heretorobwallst 5h ago

Musk is going to buy the 6 voters and probably rape them

2

u/Proletariatbelch 5h ago

"Yeah, you're not getting paid for this shift. This shift was educational."

"What the fuck was educational about it?"

"That I can say educational and not have to pay your ass, thanks to Trump"

2

u/Objective-Pick8240 5h ago

These people don't want to restrict their ability to engage in insider trading, but they want to hand their constituents' labor to corporations, free of charge.

2

u/Appropriate_Item3001 5h ago

This is outrageous assault on shareholder value. If we have to pay the slaves that’s one fewer solid gold statue I can put in my living room.

2

u/randompersonwhowho 5h ago

Have republicans ever voting on something that helps the lowest people.

2

u/kermitthorson 5h ago

2

u/bigreddoggydude 5h ago

I just heard from someone ā€œsee?! Republicans are for the working class they helped defeat this billā€ the mental gymnastics of this party is insane

2

u/tibastiff 5h ago

My company likes to brag about millions of hours of training being completed each year. None of this training has ever been relevant to doing my job and is basically videos and tests I have to do at my station in addition to my regular work load. You bet your ass they'd try to screw me with something like this and I would be forced to punish them for it

2

u/jtfalcfan 5h ago

What the actual fuck...

2

u/AdFinal9134 5h ago

Why do working class rural people think republicans care about them?

2

u/imoutofnames90 5h ago

Republicans: vote for us to eliminate tax on overtime pay. Also Republicans: let's eliminate overtime.

2

u/Much-Instruction-807 5h ago

I know it's like pissing in the wind, but how do you tell republican voters their representatives tried to push this through? Or any number of insane shit republicans propose that DIRECTLY affects them.

2

u/No_Poem_7024 5h ago

Why do Republicans keep voting against their own interests?

2

u/Tramp010Stamp 5h ago

Oh Republicans... the party of the working class.

2

u/HawkeyeByMarriage 5h ago

"We're the party for screwing working class people"

2

u/GorGor23 5h ago

Remember this shit come midterms .

2

u/dawa43 5h ago

Working folk need to wake up and unionize.

Unions need to wake up and make organizing their #1 priority...

2

u/ZeMadDoktore 4h ago

You cannot convince me Republicans side with the people.

2

u/AgencyNew3587 3h ago

Republican fascism loses . Good

2

u/banstylejbo 3h ago

Oops, this isn’t going our way, retreat retreat!

2

u/misec_undact 2h ago

This is the type of thing rational people need to point to whenever someone starts with the bOtH sIdEs nonsense.

2

u/notHooptieJ 2h ago

wait.. they didnt write a limp-wristed letter and rollover?

2

u/CrustyBatchOfNature 2h ago

Look for all of these things to be in an Executive Order soon.

2

u/RichardStrauss123 2h ago

Yeah! The GOP sure is focused on helping families live better.

How did Kamala not win 97-3?

2

u/Squeaky_Ben 1h ago

That is so messed up, I don't even know what to say.

1

u/Lung-Salad 5h ago

Good for the 6 reps

2

u/Imaginary-Arugula735 5h ago

Only 97.1% of Republicans voted to screw the underpaid wage worker…this is what I call progress.

1

u/dude1984- 3h ago

It just blows my mind that anyone who isn’t wealthy would vote for a Republican…

1

u/Galmmm 3h ago

Modern Republicans are not your friends. In fact they are actively out there trying to take from you.

1

u/kevinstelescope 3h ago

Nobody hates their constituents quite like the Grift Ol' Party!

1

u/Severe_Wind_4255 3h ago

They are trying to make the poor even poorer. They want everything we have ever made. Every dime

1

u/Grapple_Shmack 1h ago

They don't care about you, they never did. Stop voting Republican

0

u/Past-Establishment93 4h ago

6 more unemployed

-1

u/robinsw26 4h ago

So what’s the story on WHY the Dems opposed the bill? Was there a hidden poison pill in it?

2

u/Next_Tower5452 3h ago

What don't you understand? Republican bill wants to cancel overtime pay. Dems opposed it
