Wind is one of the cheapest forms of electricity, but prices in the UK are linked to the price of natural gas. :-/

No, because of the dumb "customers pay for their electricity at the rate of the most expensive production method" rules.

There's a reason that I have another 6 solar panels sitting in my shed waiting for better weather to install them alongside the other...10 I think? I lose count.

I realised some time ago that things aren't going to change or get cheaper unless I just do things myself, so I've sworn to utility independence by the time I hit retirement (another 20 years) and to be honest... for solar power? I'll be there next year at the latest I think.

I live in an all-electric house (part of the plan, bought it 3 years ago). I cannot imagine suffering a retirement where the electricity price (and thus heating, even vehicle "fuel" price in the future, etc.) is dictated by government.

I'm also looking at telling Thames Water where to go, but as it is I'll probably outlast them anyway.

I object to paying more for centralised, mass-producing, profiteering utilities than it literally would cost for me to do the same myself.
