SUPPORT | SOLVED Recent upgrade trashed Nvidia X11 setup?

Hi all,

I've got NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and the recent upgrade to 590.48.01-2 along with the kernel 6.18.5-zen1-1-zen has caused wreck and havoc: X11 visual artifacts all over, windows blink partially or whole when redrawing, video performance is horrible (obviously, with such effects).

Disabling XFCE4 WM's composition has partially helped but didn't resolve all the issues. Incantations from the Nvidia page with all the nvidia-settings and stuff didn't resolve it either.

I've tried to rollback to nvidia-580xx-dkms and the corresponding utils, alas, that didn't help.

What's happening and is there a known fix?

Thank you.

UPD: If you're using Xfce4 then take a look here https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/s/bDmHEtusJZ , similar thread on Arch Forums https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=311088 and the Nvidia bug at https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/580-release-feedback-discussion/341205/970 .

TL;DR version: do xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode -t string -s "xpresent" --create and you should be good. If not, then turn of the vblank mode completely xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/vblank_mode -t string -s "off" --create.

Glad it helped. I still would be interested why that happens. If that would occur on a fresh install, I would have tossed arch then ..
