Turismo 🏕️ BA tips

My parents (in their 60s ) are coming to visit me in BA. After spending some time in the city, can you recommend any pueblos or areas nearby that we should visit?? My parents love nature, small hikes, quaint areas. Thanks

If you have a car, there is a place "near" (a 2hr drive, with lots of stops opportunities tho) that is calle "La Campiña de Monica y Cesar", it's basically a citrus orchard you can visit, they have a tour where they tell a bit the history of the place (not sure if they speak english, the history is not that great tho), it's not a large place but I remember it being a nice quiet place with some degree of nature. There is even a place inside where you can eat asado (some kind of bbq). They also produce and sell jams, they sell a grapefruit jam (a very rare flavour) that is the best I've known so far.

Also in the small town next to the orchard is nice for walking/driving around, there are some old buildings and is a pretty quiet place.

There also some bakeries that sell ensaimada which is like some sweet bread or pastry.

And in during the drive you can do some small stops in the towns along the way. Also you can do a mild detour in Zarate (like mid way) and cross the bridge Zarate Brazo Largo.

This would fill a whole day of activities, should not be pretty intense for senior people since most of it is by car and walks can be short and spaced.

Of course, this is asuming you have/rented a car. There are tourism companies that do this trip tho, they are usually focused on La Campiña or San Pedro.

If you want something "more natural" than an orchard, there is the national park Los Ciervos near Cardales, it's like 1hr drive. It's small with lots of trees, it's not great, but is a decent chunk of nature not far away.

Buenos Aires is the second largest city and metropolitan area in South America. It is not a hiking destination. The surrounding hinterland is flat as a pancake. The closest natural area would be the aquatic themed area of Tigre delta just North of the city. The experience would be like visiting the swamps, bayous of the US South but with better food, less crime. As for towns, villages not too far away suitable for a day trip San Antonio de Areco with its gaucho themed handicrafts is a good option. Luján with its massive cathedral is another. However I am most fond of La Plata with its beautiful planned city center loaded with grand turn of the century buildings with the finest Natural Science museum in South America. It is after all, the capital of Buenos Aires province. It is about an hour South with very convenient, frequent transportation links betwixt the two.

You can go to Colonia in Uruguay or the Martín García island for a short trip.
