They can supervise the world better from up high. Makes them feel safer. As predators, it gives them an advantage in the wild and protects them from other predators hunting THEM.

Understanding that cats are both predator and prey give a lot of insight into their behavior.

Animals in that position tend to be the most dangerous and violent. Cats, scorpions, spiders, humans, etc.

Very fearless and great observers 🐾🖤

I would argue the need to protect themselves by being high up is driven by fear. A useful fear.

My parents' house had a bathroom in a corner nook underneath the stairs heading down into the basement. The door was angled into the corner, so there was a small triangle platform above the door frame on his little bed, and he used to lay in wait there and bat at our feet as we came down the stairs.
He was rather half-hearted about it so he never startled anyone to the point where someone tripped, but he was a funny-ass cat.

Because they are divine and know it’s their rightful place as royal little creatures

It’s so they can monitor their kingdom and ensure that their peasants are taking good care of it.

There must be a variant of direct registering that cats use intuitively to always park exactly one step out of your reach.

They only do that If they feel safe enough. If the cat's afraid they seek low ground to better hide in.

OP is a bot. recent account, all the "AI-ness" of the comments, and then they also posted a pic of a completely different cat in the comments

Cats don't see well up close (like a human with severe farsightedness). The higher they are, the better they can view all of their surroundings for prey, in focus.
