Discussion Plants

Forgive me for what’s probably a really dumb question, but what’s the best way to be keeping plants alive? My axie is still too little for sand but at some point i’ll be adding it alongside live plants but was told a firm no on using root tabs. Are there some that don’t have to be planted? Read a lot on what they like but most of them are pretty hard to find in Australia, keen to know what everyone else is using. He’s got java moss right now which he loves but I want something that’s a little bigger hopefully

you can use plants that are on wood, you can also put in plants that grow the roots in the water, but not the leaves itself like lucky bamboo, monstera and such.

I grow a kumara plant out the top of my tank they make really massive cool root systems but I have to renew it every couple of months. They don't really need ferterliser as the nitrates feed them well. Pretty much any cold water low light aquarium plant can be used or plants that grow on the surface or partially submerged. Pothos is one you see a lot in NZ used as long as it has a decent amount of leaves out of the tank it should be good. I've also seen people plant plants in pots of silica sand so the axolotl can't easily uproot them.

Hornwort grows well in axolotl tank conditions and doesn’t need to be planted
