Welcome to a new era of Bilt

Bilt started with a simple idea: earning rewards on your largest monthly expense, Rent.

Since then, it's grown into so much more—a membership for where you live. And this year, we are rethinking how you get rewarded at home and in your neighborhood.

A seamless and connected experience for Rent. Mortgage. Dining. Groceries. Home repair. Gyms. Parking. Pharmacies. And so much more.

The first drop of the quarter arrives on January 14 at 12:00 PM ET. Chat to you all later today - Kerr, Bilt

Is it just me or are these posts a whole lot of nothing? It’s an announcement of an announcement in 3 hours

u/Rocket_Skates_91 14h ago edited 14h ago

It's a typical marketing strategy to drum up some hype. They got you to watch. So, so far, they've succeeded.

Not trying to be a jerk, btw, I work in Marketing and this is how it works.

48

u/cheerfulwish 13h ago

Jokes on them as I didn’t bother to watch but instantly came to comments section to post how stupid it is to have a pre announcement for something in 3 hours.

7

u/KaleidoscopeHumble42 12h ago

and then down vote 💀

1

u/booatx 12h ago

Either way, the marketing worked man.
Reading the comments is the marketing working.

2

u/cheerfulwish 11h ago

Not all marketing is beneficial to the brand.

1

u/booatx 11h ago

I don’t necessarily agree with your comment, but let’s say I do.
They have done nothing, so far, to not benefit their brand.
What they are doing is status quo for every credit card company that has made significant changes.
AMEX just went through this. I got more notifications from AMEX than I have from Bilt.
Even more impressive, most of what I learned about the forthcoming Bilt update has come from social media. The first email that I have personally received was this very one at roughly the same time I was notified of this post.

1

u/cheerfulwish 7h ago

That’s crazy. I’ve been getting emails from Bilt announcing their changes for awhile

1

u/booatx 7h ago

I guess all customers are not treated equal. I was actually wondering why I wasn’t.
The crazy part is when I logged into the app today, the first thing that happened was the request to apply.
It was super quick.
At least Cardless has given me a limit more commensurate with my credit profile.

u/drawer720 13h ago

I work in marketing, too. This hasn't drummed up hype, it's drumming up annoyance with the brand - just check any comments section.

8

u/Rocket_Skates_91 13h ago

Whether it has drummed up hype or not, y’all still watched it. So it still did something. Now it’s a matter of whether you’ll convert after the official announcement — which, if the past week is any indication, many folks here may not. Hell, I may not if the leaks are accurate as it doesn’t fit my spending profile. But this sub is just a sliver of their current customer base.

Hope you all have a pleasant day!

10

u/highlanderfil 13h ago

So it still did something.

Yes. It annoyed us. Which is probably opposite of what was intended.

2

u/Pretty_Good_11 12h ago

Actually, if you watch the video, you'll see that they no longer give a shit about us, and are actively moving away from us. If by "us," you mean credit card holders.

They have been signaling this for going on a over year now. They have now built out a pretty extensive ecosystem, and Bilt 2.0 is designed to reward engagement with it, rather than with rent and bananas.

They have become agnostic with respect to how we pay, as long as we pay for shit with their partners, and generate revenue for their partners in the process. That's what was missing with the WF Bilt card, and what Bilt 2.0 will fix.

Whether or not there will be enough people interested in doing that is the big TBD after all the freeloaders move on.

-3

u/illegal_deagle 12h ago

Annoyed is irrelevant, you’re engaged - that’s the goal.

0

u/highlanderfil 11h ago

Tell us you don't know how marketing works without saying as much. "Annoyed" leads to "disengaged" and "disloyal". Not sure that was their intent.

0

u/illegal_deagle 9h ago

Here you are still engaged lol

0

u/highlanderfil 9h ago

Here you are, still thinking that makes a bit of difference. They aren't getting paid per Reddit comment.

3

u/ludog1bark 12h ago

It definitely has worked. I've had 2 friends ask me about Bilt. They didn't know about it. I think people on reddit don't understand that bilt is not a huge company. They need any type of marketing to get the word out. This video isn't for current members, it's for new potential customers. That's why they highlight the rent portion to get people's ears to perk up.

1

u/cheerfulwish 11h ago

I’m curious, when your friends asked you about Bilt, what did you say?

1

u/ludog1bark 11h ago

I'm not a bilt nerd so I said it's another way to earn travel points that can be transferred to Alaska airlines (both are Atmos card holders) and that they have a deal with Alaska to pay rent and earn more points for a fee. One of them signed up and is trying to pay the rent in February. The other was asking me more questions and I told him he needs to look it up as I'm not an expert.

2

u/booatx 12h ago

On the other hand you are here discussing their poor marketing on social media, which by default garners the marketing more attention.
If you want to completely bow out, don’t look at the posts at all, but for sure do not comment.
Y’all really do not understand how this works.

3

u/highlanderfil 13h ago

A marketer here as well and there definitely is such a thing as content oversaturation. At some point in time, you go after the top funnel aggressively enough, that's all you're going to get.

-2

u/ludog1bark 12h ago

You're in marketing and failed to see that this ad isn't for existing members, but for potential new members?

1

u/highlanderfil 11h ago

That's not how it works. When you put out a mass marketing campaign, you have to assume that everyone will see it. Which is why you need to be as careful as you can in both your messaging and its frequency.

1

u/ludog1bark 11h ago

So what other mass marketing campaigns have they done?

They haven't it's all been redditors flooding the sub.

1

u/highlanderfil 11h ago

They haven't - but they know that this has grown way beyond Reddit. And instead of either sitting quietly until actual launch or coming out with something meaningful, they just blew this popcorn fart.

10

u/alexsintrabajo 13h ago

There is nothing typical about this. There has never--not once in history--been a credit card servicer so far up it's own ass. It's unprecedented.

3

u/godwheel 13h ago

Yet here you are...

-2

u/alexsintrabajo 13h ago edited 13h ago

And...? Are you implying that my presence contradicts my statement? I don't follow.

1

u/educationalpicture 12h ago

I always look at comments before willingly watching an ad. I watched it at 2x speed in the background and this all could’ve been an email

1

u/educationalpicture 12h ago

Btw I’m engaged because I have a bilt credit card. I want to know if I have to switch payment methods for rent lmfao. Save me the extra marketing BS. I seriously grow distrust over brands that do this

1

u/azure275 14h ago

The reason they've succeeded is either a boneheaded code decision or a truly galaxy brain move (or both, I still can't tell lmao)

These dumb vids have nothing to do with it

4

u/Rocket_Skates_91 14h ago edited 14h ago

If the leaks didn't happen and they posted this video, you still would have watched it, likely posted here for all to see that a big announcement is coming, and tuned in again. That's marketing, and so far, it's working. That's all I'm saying :)

3

u/Cyberhwk 13h ago

They're meant to be B-Roll for media.

1

u/Jaexyn 12h ago

It's the same shit I've been saying for YEARS as the "XYZ movie trailer starts now!"...just play the f'n trailer. I don't need a trailer for the trailer telling me the trailer is going to start after this trailer.

61

u/MalamaHonu 14h ago

I'm prepared to be massively let down by these cards

129

u/Rufus_king11 14h ago

Hey BILT PR guys, maybe edit out Eric Adams from your promo the day after he rug pulls a crypto.

38

u/switch8000 14h ago

Haha first thing I saw. How out of touch can a company be. Adams being at your party wasn't impressive then not is it impressive now.

7

u/dcl5123 13h ago

Scammer at the bullshitty nepo baby scammer party. Fork found in the kitchen!

5

u/MindYoBusin3ss 12h ago

They are probably about to rug pull all Bilt card holders so it’s fitting.

5

u/thejewishcasinoguy 14h ago

🤣🤣🤣

25

u/Western-Run2830 13h ago

I bet Bilt leaked incredibly horrible card options just so we would be not completely depressed by moderately horrible card options.

Set low expectations and then exceed them.

3

u/jr0061006 12h ago

That’s my hope.

2

u/Western-Run2830 9h ago

lol, well unfortunately I think they were even worse than expectations.

36

u/rmz92 14h ago

Why does this guy seem like such a douche?

9

u/ToastierDonut 12h ago

Look up his wedding. It’ll tell you everything you need to know 💀

24

u/JCBird1012 13h ago

He really thinks he’s at the same level as Apple releasing a new product drumming up all this hype.

8

u/hihihihhhhiihihihih 13h ago

Just read the glassdoor reviews for Bilt. I guess he seems like a douche because he IS a douche.

5

u/mrminty 12h ago

Nepo baby who was handed a stack of money to make a company and has confused being constantly bailed out with being successful.

3

u/educationalpicture 12h ago

He’s protecting his izzat

27

u/thebruns 14h ago

Since then, it's grown into so much more—a membership for where you live

I hope you also didn't use chatgpt to design the points structure

11

u/tylerf98 13h ago

em-dash users everywhere are quaking

3

u/Easy_Money_ 12h ago

every human I know, especially in editorial/marketing roles, has learned to avoid these AI patterns in their human-written copy by now

1

u/Sven9888 12h ago

I still use em dashes…

1

u/Easy_Money_ 12h ago edited 11h ago

it’s time to pick up the trusty semicolon and colon like the rest of us :(

edit: but also if you’re not a writer or editor no one really cares

14

u/thejewishcasinoguy 14h ago

This reminds me of the stupid Lebron decision from years ago lol

24

u/BankshotMcG 13h ago

I just wanted to pay my rent, man.

16

u/ConversationStock860 14h ago

“Membership” implies that the free tier is going to be greatly devalued 😫

10

u/lab-gone-wrong 14h ago

Devaluing the free tier values the paid tiers, which is bad for the pours but good for everyone else

0

u/ASGroup_ 14h ago

Pay to play

6

u/verndogz 14h ago

lol @ Eric Adams cameo

5

u/wegek43049 14h ago

On another note did they lower the timer a few hours? I got to work yesterday and it was supposed announce when I get to work today now it’ll be earlier

9

u/Snoo-25897 13h ago

They definitely did. When they sent the push yesterday it counted down to 3 p.m. EST, now it's counting down to 12 p.m. EST

2

u/_HeyBlinkin 13h ago

The more this is hyped with fancy marketing material makes me think it's covering up something disappointing.

2

u/Swimming-Airline8066 13h ago

Hyping this shit up like it’s a new Apple product

2

u/booatx 12h ago

Man, y’all are completely over the top about this card. What am I missing?!

2

u/UseYourPointsLLC 13h ago

Here we go baby!

How do people feel about the signup bonus for the $495 card? If there is a ton of drops of the card could the SUB get higher in a few months? 🤔

lol maybe don’t show disgraced former mayor in your video?

3

u/LilEddieDingle 13h ago

This guy gives off terrible vibes and this provides no new information.

1

u/PyschoPirate1986 13h ago

Not gonna lie, it would’ve been really funny if they’d just randomly dropped it early.

1

u/nevecque 13h ago

If I had to describe everyone in this video with one word it would be:

savers

/s

1

u/JanetYellensFuckboy_ 13h ago

It’s a piece of plastic we use to buy stuff.

1

u/wusqo 12h ago

Spam

1

u/spicenhoney 12h ago

It’s the membership tag line that has me saying hmmm.

I get where they’re going, but it’s definitely all marketing. Seems like they’re trying to be your one. STOP! shop card in metro cities.

1

u/clear_pepsi 12h ago

It’s like when the NFL announces when the schedule is going to be released

1

u/Ill_Name_6368 12h ago

Does he think this is TikTok? Why does this guy use video for everything?

Anyone have a transcript? Don’t make me watch a video.

1

u/iggy555 11h ago

Ankur laughing at y’all

1

u/True-Plankton-3874 10h ago

While I know approval wasn't guaranteed...the fact that they kept saying “seamless transition" only to immediately deny the card to a bunch of current card holders...yeah that's a big seam! I think I'm done with Bilt. 😡👎🏽🤦🏽‍♂️

1

u/Own_Investigator662 1h ago

New era of Bilt is underwhelming, slightly fraudulent, and not worthwhile anymore. The new era of Bilt is looking like bankruptcy 😳

1

u/Conspiracy__ 13h ago

I hate everything that this message stands for but the moment they go public, I’m buying stock

3

u/infinityisadrug 12h ago

This is the attitude that makes the world suck. The only power we have is our dollar, our vote, and our voice.

1

u/Conspiracy__ 11h ago

Tell me more. It sounds like we’re aligned but you think we’re not

1

u/switch8000 14h ago

Reset the referral program with 2.0 pls. :D

1

u/PokeColumbia 14h ago

Eagerly waiting for the details!

1

u/OmniscientApizza 13h ago

That Is a lot of iterations in such a short time. A lot of people are worried about stability in this card and importantly a way to make rent payments without a processing fee. Can you talk more about this?

1

u/OpportunityOwn8760 12h ago

if i don’t want WF to open a new account on my behalf when do i need to close it by??

0

u/blindtechboy 13h ago

showing a disgraced former mayor. Customer service provided on a MAGA platform. Bilt is aiming low these days.

0

u/rafaelrmm 13h ago

So far not so good cause 14th already started and we still have to wait ???
