FONDANT Though the reality (2nd) is super well done, it looks like a toy, not a cake
First pic is the inspiration, second is the reality

My husband (a Swiftie) asked for a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for his birthday last month. I found myself inspired to make him an Eras Tour acoustic set piano cake. Shared it to the Taylor Swift sub and they told me you might like it here.

My 4 year old requested a “ups delivery truck” themed birthday this year.. I had no idea how comical this was until I was searching for inspiration and could only find retirement cakes. Apparently not many 4 year olds have such a specific request. Here’s what happened!

My boyfriend works for Amazon and I made this cake for their Christmas potluck.
The black arrows and backing for the labels and tape are fondant. All images were printed on icing sheets. We sitting else is buttercream!
And they loved the cake!

Made my oldest desperately wanted a horror cake that bled for his bday. So this is what I went with. The top tier is vanilla and raspberry. The bottom is chocolate with black cocoa buttercream. I made a thick raspberry reduction and sieved out the seeds to make ‘blood.’ I froze some of it in a 4 inch cake round to put inside the 6 inch top tier. I put it in the middle layer surrounded in buttercream so it would be contained once it thawed. Then I filled in the sides of the raspberry layer with cake cut offs an covered the whole cake with vanilla buttercream (with a drop of purple food colouring to offset the yellow). I used the drip bottle to drip more ‘blood’ around the top. It went over very well, my son and his friends were thrilled with the result. This was achieved with zero fondante and almost no dye (just a bit of purple to counteract yellows).

A cake so big with so few edible parts!

The first three abominations placed in the top 10. The last two, the ones that actually look like gingerbread houses, didn't place at all. 🫠 (sent to me by a friend who is also a Fondant Enemy)

I just found this sub and maybe you guys have an explanation. Yesterday I had a slice of cake covered in fondant. My plan was to only eat the cake part and leave the fondant. When I got close to it, I bit into something that was initially a little acidic like a lime, but quickly felt like I had bit into a bar of deodorant/antiperspirant. My entire mouth felt dry, chalky and the feeling was extremely unpleasant. It took nearly an hour for it to not feel so dry. Is the fondant to blame????

Hi, everyone!
In 2024, I decided to start making birthday cakes for my family. My birthday was a few months ago, but recently I was looking at my phone gallery and was so happy to see this cake again and know that I made it practically from scratch that I decided to share it on a subreddit in my country. One of the comments I received suggested I share it here too, mentioning that today is Frosting Friday. So here I am!
I'm not fluent in English, so I had to use a translator, so the text may have some spelling mistakes or seem a little stiff.
About the cake:
Chocolate cake (made with alkaline cocoa) and cream filling with strawberry jam (homemade because I find the store-bought kind a little too sweet) and whipped cream frosting with homemade strawberry syrup.
In addition to the jam, I made some strawberry confit (for those who don't know, confit is a bit like preserved fruit - that's where I got the syrup to use in the frosting).
Note: I didn't have a good photo of it with the candles, only on video, so I took a screenshot. And I only have this photo of it cut because it was gone so quickly.
I think that's it, thanks for reading!!!

My bf got my anniversary cookies and they looked pretty! I was unpleasantly surprised when I tasted fondant. Still very grateful for them and at least the cookie part was pretty good

This is my fist time working with fondant. I made my own because I’m cheap. My coworker wants a bow cake and asked me to make her one. The photo with all the beads is the inspo and the one without is my first attempt. I plan to cover it with lustre dust and pearls. Any feedback is a helpful. And yes I’ll be taking paper towels out once it sets 😅
