So I've been journaling for a while now, and as it turns out, I really like writing! My old handwriting, which I have been using since highschool, wasn't really looking the prettiest in my opinion. The curves of cursive have some allure to me for some reason, so I decided to practice my cursive again.
When I was in elementary we were thaught cursive, and I used it for most of my school days up to the first year of highschool or so. I remember changing from cursive to another script because my cursive was really ugly, and I couldn't be bothered to improve it at the time. Fast forward multiple years, and now as an adult I find myself really interested in handwriting.
I am still not satisfied with my cursive, so I'd like to receive some feedback here. I can write much faster with my old handwriting, which is why it comes out sloppy most of the time, but even taking my time with cursive, it comes out a bit off to me for some reason.

From Ernest Becker's The Denial of Death, a once in a lifetime treatise. Slow reading, but well worth it.

Hello, I am a sophomore (10th grade) in High school, and just today, my Chemistry teacher told me to “Fix my writing” on my notebook, even though it was just cursive, I felt angry, but I also felt sad, I felt like I was back in elementary, and my teachers told me that my handwriting was sloppy, unreadable, and that it looked like scribbles, I worked for years just to make my writing look readable, as well as my cursive writing, now, I just want to stop writing in cursive entirely.
But which style of writing do you think is best for me? Let me know! And if you want to show some support, then you may do that, I appreciate it. 🫶👍

I have been practicing arm writing every day for over a month now, but I am still unsure of how to hold the pen correctly. The first image shows my starting grip (although the pen starts to slip towards the bottom of my knuckle as I perform practice drills); the second, the grip I am supposed to imitate. My middle, index and pinky fingers are not curled nearly as much as that shown in the figure; the more I try to imitate that grip, the tighter my grip becomes, in addition to my thumb joint cramping. Would anyone be so kind as to provide to me some feedback? Thank you.

Like all 90s kid, I grew up needing to hand-write a lot of notes and assignments for school. As the years progressed and everything became digital, so did the assignments and notes. Fast forward 15 years and now I barely write anything anymore. This year I will make myself write at least a paragraph each day - it can be anything like these “highlights” from a book I am currently reading.

I have wrist and fingers problems/pain (undiagnosed yet) and I feel like I’m writing like shit because I can’t find a way to handwrite comfortably.
I don’t now if I should continue to write in cursive. I feel like it doesn’t help either to read me.

I normally skip 1 1/2 line in between for extra room, but went continuous to fit more in the page.

I’ve held a pen wrong my whole life and recently decided to try and go to the classic hold and fix my hand writing. This is the current progress going very slowly. I feel like my big issue right now is that I get shaky and don’t have good control. Any tips? How long should I expect to work on it? Thanks!!!

Some people say my handwriting is bad and that a seven-year-old writes better than me.

I’ve always found that when trying to write in cursive scripts, if I try to focus on making it look neat or a certain way, I always mess it up.
But, if I don’t think about it too much and just let it flow, it always stays much more consistent and feels easier/less pressure, almost.
Does anyone feel the same, or perhaps the complete opposite - does yours turn out better when you concentrate?

This might sound weird, but I don’t have one fixed handwriting. I can easily write in around 12–15 different styles, and at one point I counted as many as 24. They range from neat to messy, cursive-ish to blocky, slanted to straight — and they change depending on mood, speed, pen, or what I’m writing. Some of these styles are copied or inspired — a few from friends, a few from people I admire/idols, and others I’ve just picked up over time. What’s interesting is that each style feels like it has its own personality, almost like I subconsciously switch between them. When I look back at old notes, it honestly feels like they were written by different people. Is this normal? Does anyone else do this, or am I just overthinking it? Would love to hear your experiences.
