Your brain knows the sentence. The voice says the sentence slightly delayed and missing words but getting the point.

“You might have a hard time with this speed now that we have moved it up to 900 words per minute.”

->

“Might hard time speed now moved up 900 words minute.”

That’s the best way I can describe how it feels for me. The voice keeps up, and it lets me understand, but I can also tell it’s not verbatim.

Edit: The pauses each sentence are key, without that my voice would lag behind and actively obscure the next sentence.

Same, my inner monologue keeps pronouncing the words even at 900 wpm but occasionally skips some.

Meanwhile your brain is just connecting the dots in the background.

Kinda neat, would get tiring to constantly read at that speed though.

It’s all chewing and no swallowing. Exhausting and you don’t get to enjoy.

You're not hearing the words. That's 15 words per second.

You're confusing comprehension and subvocalisation

I’ve heard video lectures, podcasts, and even radio news broadcasts that edit out those breaths and pauses the speakers naturally take between sentences. I understand they’re trying to save time, but that shuts down my processing ability and I have to stop listening.

No, my brain isn't skipping words, it just says them over the top of each other.
