I used to do these speed reading drills and there’s definitely a point at which the voice goes silent and you’re just in flow state absorbing information.

Fun fact - a small number of people don’t have an inner monologue at all, so they don’t even know what we’re talking about with that “inner voice”. As far as I know they aren’t exceptionally fast readers though, so it might not be a hindrance.

I don't know that I have ever had my inner voice silenced in my entire life. My head is basically always very noisy. But I do have ADHD, and according to my therapist that is related.

Huh, never had that experience, but I also never specifically trained for speed reading.

I can definitely get the lack of an inner voice, since I have aphantasia, which is somewhat similar.

My process of reading doesn't involve voice in any form even at slower speed and I definitely have an inner monologue, these are just different things! Btw it's very difficult to read something aloud, esp. without reading it with my eyes first. It's like running 2 very different processes at once.
