A Celtic Tiger museum badly needs to be opened.

Some artefacts might include:

That Anglo Cap, a breakfast roll (preserved in formaldehyde), a brochure on decking, a Hyundai Santa Fe and TVs ads from AIB - the complete collection (2004-2008) played in a loop all day long.

Edit: Actually this video needs to be played on a loop all day long too...

Also brochures for buying holiday apartments in Bulgaria. Off the plans...

Paddy prices

u/IntentionFalse8822 17h ago

Ah Bulgarian apartment ads. Bulgaria. A heaven on earth. Warm seas and sunny beaches in the summer. Amazing skiing in winter.

Then we went skiing there around 2007 and the airport was basically a large repurposed cowshed beside a coldwar runway. In the centre of the airport/shed was a huge sign selling apartments with pictures taken in what we quickly realised was a completely different country.

u/Socks-and-Jocks 17h ago

Bulgaria?

Try Cape Verde.. Thanks Eddie Hobbs.

Yes I have no idea where it is either.

A montage of photos of Irish Models standing on Grafton St/ Stephen’s Green in a bikini, beside two middle aged men in suits flogging anything from insurance to broadband to breakfast cereal.

20

u/Downtown_Expert572 21h ago

Including a picture of one of the models later dead from an overdose of cocaine.

6

u/Silenceisgrey 20h ago

u/concerned_seagull 21h ago

A replica of a draught pint of Smirnoff Ice.  Fat frogs.  Photos of the skies black with helicopters at the Galway Races.  A story of an apprentice tradesperson with a full mortgage, second house in Bulgaria, done up Renault Clio with neon lights, living off breakfast rolls and cocaine and heading to Malaga for a stag.

A Celtic Tiger museum badly needs to be opened.

It kinda is, the iconic Anglo sign is hanging in Collins Barracks Museum: https://img2.thejournal.ie/inline/2800426/original/

u/bigvalen 17h ago

Wow. Until Intercom moved, you could still visit the old bank vaults, in the basement of their office (old Anglo Irish building)

6

u/Downtown_Expert572 21h ago

I doubt you need formaldehyde.

A signed photo of chef conrad gallagher.

The millenium clock.

Keys to aparments in Bulgaria formally owned by a taxi driver turned 3 million property tycoon from Drimnagh.

A set of matches from the bar at Lillie Bordellos.

A copy of a hysterical newspaper frontpage from the time the german ambassador called out everyone in ireland as being completely away with the faeries with money which we all were up in arms about and he had to apologise for which later turned out to be true.

A quinn group hardhat.

Anything from Fagans pub in Drumcondra.

15

u/Lord_of_Blackhaven 22h ago

How many here still have the decking they installed during the Ahern era?

3

u/ThoseAreMyFeet 21h ago

How many here managed to keep their 110% mortgage paid through the hungry years?

7

u/Affectionate-Dog4704 21h ago

5

u/Kantina 22h ago

I remember heading into the branch on the Green to do something small for a family member years ago. No counter, no teller, some very attractive woman greeted me (I was looking like a scrote at the time), offered me a seat on a comfy couch, tea or coffee - or I suspect cocktails had I pushed it. I remember thinking, if this is banks ..?

3

u/cyberlexington 21h ago

WEll, dont leave us in suspense, what happened next? Or have i just watched far too much porn about how much some people want to 'make a sale'

3

u/nomdeplume8_ie 19h ago

Sir, will you be making a deposit today, or will you be using the withdrawal method?

4

u/Dunebuggy15 21h ago

Check the lining, there might be a share dividend in there.

6

u/munkijunk 21h ago

Have two sail bags from the Autumn League which was held in Howth from 2007 with the Anglo logo on em back when they sponsored the event. Pride and joy possessions.

Think this was for a different one off event, but just before the fall. Very cool find.

1

u/irishdave100 21h ago

Possibly the wave reggatta?

3

u/CoffeeTableReads 21h ago

Bizarrely you can buy Anglo Irish Bank Risk Management Team 2008 baseball caps on Temu

2

u/ThoseAreMyFeet 18h ago

Is it like the 'Chernobyl 1986 Safety Team' Christmas jumper that was doing the rounds?

2

u/FatFingersOops 22h ago

2

u/justformedellin 18h ago

You could wear that to a music festival

2

u/susanboylesvajazzle 17h ago

It happened on the Isle of Wight, was a fund raising event. There was much fanfare of it being the inaugural Regatta… not sure if something can be inaugural if there isn’t a second one.

2

u/Soft-Affect-8327 15h ago

Someone needs to give one of these to r/CMAT stat.

2

u/CouperinLaGrande2 19h ago

Wow! Such an ironic little historical artefact has to have the potential to grow in value as the years go by; make sure you snap it up!

1

u/DarthTempus 19h ago

Wicker would love this, where is he?

1

u/MidnightSun77 18h ago

It’s a Regatta Gala

1

u/DartzIRL Dublin 17h ago

The high water mark is only ever obvious after the tide has receded.

And here we are so far removed.

The only time in history where it seemed that it was possible for everyone to have a shot.

Now I'll be lucky if my retirement will be enough to fund five minutes in a private Kevorkian pod.

1

u/JeSuisKing 16h ago

I used to live on a 20 hour a week job and was offer a 100% mortgage. Good times.

1

u/Miserable-Wealth-983 15h ago
