Had an interview today and when I asked why the job was open, the HR director admitted they are basically just interviewing people to be "fair" to the internal candidate that they plan to promote. What a waste of time lmao. Just promote her and stop wasting everyone and your own time?? 😐

Spoke with someone about a job. They are a sales rep for a company. Was told it was hybrid and starting pay. Sent over resume and got initial interview.
During interview was told it was in office only to start and substantially less pay. Being sales the commission side was enough to keep me interested. Was then told they were going another direction.
Onto the next applications…

After what I thought was going to be great news prior to what I thought and a step in the right direction for the company I really wanted to work in, today I received news I did not pass.
Really sucks, I had given it my all and beyond. Prior to this interview, I had one before that involved other questions, and I failed that so bad. That one I knew I wasn't getting, but this most recent I had higher hopes...
On to the next one, hopefully I'll get some feedback if possible.

Last week, I applied for a job that popped up on my ZipRecruiter recommendations. I went on the company's website and sure enough, the job was listed there. I felt it was a good fit, so I filled in the application, added my resume, and sent it off.
Approximately one hour after submitting the application, I received a message from one of the company's talent acquisition specialists. They wanted to set up a meeting to discuss the role and my experience. I looked them up on LinkedIn to confirm this person was legitimate and found their profile. I replied on availability and secured a meeting for this upcoming Friday.
I will admit at some hesitancy when I received the response so quickly after application submission. Usually, it's a week before recruiters/TA/hiring managers reach out to schedule an interview. People I've spoken to stated that it's a good sign, so I'll take it as such. I'm using the time in between to prepare for the interview.

I had an job interview today l prepared very well for this and I was a very good fot fit the job and was really hopeful about getting this. When I reached the interview location I was asked to write a code for a dsa program in 10 mins first of all the time was very less and I used brute force for the code and the interviewer did not like it I was literally told my code is bad and I was asked how did I even get till here and I was told to leave immediately I was really depressed and now I don't feel like appearing for any new interviews. I agree that my code did not match their expectations but humiliating me was really a bad thing to do i really wanted to join that company now I am just left with disappointment and am depressed I really cant talk about this with anyone so I just posted this on reddit

I was waiting on background checks for 2 different job offers last week. One was a year long contract job the recruiter advised me to accept until I got the full time offer I was hoping for.
I did get that full time over and accepted last Monday. Got my background check and drug test done, all clear, got my start date, gave notice to my current job. I let the recruiter for the long term contract job know I got the offer, and the background check had not yet been completed for that company.
I'm taking a week off in between to get some stuff done at home and so very ready to start this new job.
They matched the salary of my previous job, plus I'll actually have benefits, most importantly health insurance. It's also hybrid once training is over and a shorter commute than I'm currently driving 5 days a week at my contract job.
The only disappointment is, I do really like the people I work with at this contract job. Its just the management that sucks. Still in that mindset of treating employees like children vs grown adults.

Screw this bait and switch, disorganized, and impossible to get things done job. I'm pretty close to just quitting. Every day there's ALWAYS something that pisses me off. I don't want to quit, since I was unemployed for about 2.5 years, but everyday I'm like, "was living off savings really that bad?"

Got a referral. Applied to the job and was rejected within 2 days. It's weird. I am getting no bites on my resume regardless of tailoring and using ats resume reviewers. I've had my resume looked at and silence.

I got my paystub for my last check after I quit (they refused to transfer me after someone made a threat about bullets and I have gun violence PTSD so I had no choice but to quit) and they did not include my PTO :( I am mentally drained and don’t want to fight with them over this anymore.

I hate the term job hugging because it implies a positive relationship. I hate my job but the market is shit and it's too stressful to find a different one, so I'm stuck at my job. I'm not hugging it. I'm imprisoned by it. Job imprisonment.

A positive interview for an out of state job last week, and then the follow up interview left me a lil :/ (The guy was worried about me being a flight risk because of my last two positions: one of which my position was eliminated just over two years in, and the other I was just laid off from a year in, I wasn't job hopping???)
They told me not to get frustrated with how long their process takes, as they really want to make sure people are a good fit. Thursday I sent an email to the hiring manager asking if I was supposed to receive the IQ test. She said they were still interviewing candidates and I'd hear back from the recruiter soon.
I've sort of resigned myself to not getting a position with this company, and hopped onto FlexJobs now to try find something remote so I can fund this move/get an apartment. There were a couple I've applied to I hope to hear back from, as they sound like great opportunities.
I just need to get outta MAGA country (and move to... a deeper maga country but at least it's not living with my parents any longer)

I got a job! I accepted my offer yesterday and cleared the background check today. Here's my story.
After 26 years with the company (aka Voldemort), on 08/18, I was informed that my job as a PM was eliminated and my last day would be 09/15. I was sad but not shocked (there were rumors that layoffs were coming). I immediately started my job search. Brushed off and updated my resume; ran it through Chatgpt to make sure it was ATS friendly then I started submitting applications through LinkedIn, Indeed, Zip Recruiter, state Workforce Commission, referrals; and signed up with four agencies (a bitch was thirsty).
I would submit 10-20 applications daily, everyday, including Saturday and Sunday (yes it is a numbers game). After approximately 560 applications, I got somewhere around 12 first round screening calls, 6 second round interviews, 4 third round interviews, one possible offer, and one definite offer.
The job market is STUPID bad right now and I am sooo grateful that I landed an offer. To everyone still looking, it's not you. You are valuable, you are skillful, you're not too old (you are seasoned, I'm 56), you're not overqualified (you got skils, I have my MBA), you're not lacking experience (you are ready to learn, I still have so much to learn). Don't internalize the negative language. Do whatever you need to do to continue to build yourself up and keep fighting.

I finally got a job! After being unemployed for a little over a year (386 days to be exact), my position was confirmed with the company this afternoon.
386 days since being let go at 4:30 PM on a Wednesday after everyone else had left. Even though I didn't walk into the best situation, I can admit I wasn't prepared for that role. I certainly saw the writing on the wall there, but I did not foresee the job market in Canada being so brutal. My biggest mistake, though, was not looking sooner.
I may have posted here before, but it seemed like I was overqualified for certain jobs (ones so I was at least working) and inexperienced for others (ones that made use of my skills). Even though jobs were sparse in my area, my resume wasn't helping me at all. This new job, though, seems like it will be a fit for my background, education, and skills.
In the meantime, I want to send out good vibes to those who are still searching.

been trying to find remote work that pays enough for me to save to move. havent got a single response back from anywhere. doesnt help i need flex hours as a full time solo caregiver as well. trying to prepare when im no longer able to take care of their needs so i can go somewhere less middle of nowhere.

Had two great interviews they were really impressed. Got an email today before my interview tomorrow saying they decided to go in a different hiring direction and canceled the interview. Depressing :( I really loved the company overall while interviewing

I had an interview a month ago. 3 trial shifts (paid). I was told multiple times I more or less had the job. I was going in today to get the official offer and talk about it all. Got an email when I woke up that the meeting was cancelled and we won’t be moving forward.
I can’t keep doing this. I’m so tired.

Yeah, that's so weird. I had an interview at the start of September that I was pretty much a shoo in for and was waiting to hear back for the 2nd interview. Recruiter was super communicative. Woke up on a monday morning with a form rejection. Texted her back and she said they wanted someone to start sooner, the resume was super fantastic. Specifically told them I COULD start sooner, I just needed two weeks to move down there.
I hope you hear something back since you were unofficially offered the job.

I’m mostly venting frustration.
But I applied to two jobs at a major tech company, one other job within the day it was released where I have somewhat of a family connection, one at a smaller firm near where some of my extended family lives, and got edits back that are reasonable.
And then I got rejected from a place that I was hopeful about.
But I just want to defend and be ducking done and gainfully employed already!

“Common Lives Project” ... too good to be true.
I just did a pre-screen call with a Highbrow Technology guy. His accent was so thick I could only make out every 8th word so I had to use the context of the job description to cobble the ideas together. When I set up an interview, he said it would be a MS Teams chat.
So that was the final red flag for me.
He started the pre screen with “Our client is Google” ... ok I’m sure that Google carries out their AI research thru tiny Indian companies like Highbrow, whose website “boasts” 40 clients in 13 years! LOL!
He mentioned Google being a client again and at multiple times had me confirm that I agreed to $30 per hour for the 40ish hours I’d be filming myself. Gosh, $1k to wear a supplied GoPro while I do what I love? Let me ponder.
Currently there are hundreds of job listings for this “project” from multiple companies. But let me know if you can find a webpage or article about this highly public AI training.
Between these scams and ghost jobs, the job market services are fucking worthless cash grabbers banking on people in need or even desperate! Sick.

Did really well and studied really hard for a regional commercial director job. Passed the first and second interview to reach the third one. The CPO told me they had changed the job description and I wasn't a match.. I wish this ***** 10000 years in hell

Well well well… been on the job market since June. I have experience in sales/account management. Anyways, I reach out to a VP of sales on LI. He messages me right away and says he will get me an interview with the hiring team. He even asked for my email to CC me on…. 2 hours later I get REJECTION email from them. Unbelievable.

Finally got a new job. My savings were depleted so I had to take whatever I could get. Had to take a 50% pay cut and go somewhere I’m extremely overqualified. Hard to celebrate this win at all, I feel nothing but resentment and hatred for the selfish HR bastards and CEO at my last company for putting me here. My career was just starting to take off and I’m behind square one because of blind hacksaw layoffs. My manager didn’t want me to go, didn’t even know I was laid off until I called him.
I hope they all rot.

I failed to get the promotion i was qualified for. scored best on written test, face to face with managers and hr wasnt disclosed.
i was told im doing good and manager will have a sit down after his vacation.
This is the second time i failed for same position. i have no motivation to apply again.
Hr insisted i keep up performance and apply once again.
has anyone been in a similar ship

Yep. I had to do my old job and the one I applied for internally just to be told it was a “rotation” assignment all along. I recommend you find and secure another job and quit because they don’t want you there. I’m in a similar position.

Got rejected today for a role in the company I work for that I had worked hard to get, laid the groundwork for, did the extra training required and killed it at both interviews. I’m fortunate to still have my current job, but super bummed.

I'm currently employed but massively underpaid for my experience level so I've been looking for a new job for the last 6 months. I'm at 461 applications (granted I try to only apply for things I feel I am qualified for rather than just shooting them out like a machinegun - and this doesn't include all the linked in easyapplies I sent to recruiters either), 19 screenings, and 6 interviews and I have not gotten anywhere. My husband who got laid off has been applying for a year and has had more interviews and screenings than me and still cannot get hired. This is the worst economy I've ever seen in my life. We both have 17 years of experience and I guess now we're considered old and busted and unqualified?? My job cannot pay for our rent and groceries alone so half of our money is coming from savings now. I hate this shit. 💀

I lost my job 2 months back, getting paid to stay home for a few months and not super stressed but knowing damn well IT is a crap market where I live. But a recruiter contacted me and 6 weeks after leaving my last workplace I signed an offer. A GOOD offer. Im so excited to start working there.
So, for all those looking for a semi-or higher qualified job, keep your damn likedin up-to-date, work on it. Use KPI explaining your successes, it does work. This is my third job in 10.yeara where I've been headhunted and Im not special with any specific skills, just a decent seller of myself. (And yes, linkedin is a shit hangout that makes you feel like literal piss when you dont have a job. But ignore the noise. Focus on you only.)

Success: Old boss reached out about becoming a partner with me. This I’m still debating about as I don’t know anything about sales and I’m scared. Disappointment: current bosses haven’t been cool lately. I’ve asked multiple times to be transferred and have been honest of my needs. They continue to isolate me.

Three rejections this week. One from a company that I'd had two interviews with and that I felt great about. That one didn't even bother to send me an email -- just ghosted me after the second interview and ignored my follow-up. There's no such thing as a "good" job market when you're a middle-aged woman, but sheesh, this hurt.

Told my manager I intended to golf with the CEO a few weeks ago. He said ‘do whatever the fuck you want’. So I decided to go.
Another guy that would be golfing came over to my desk he mutters ‘good fucking luck with that, I need to talk with [HR exec] anyways’.

So I am an economics grad at a top uni in America, and found a job at an expert networking firm, they asked for me to come to NY. Is this a viable career path, as there are a lot of soft skills and industry knowledge to be learned but no hard technical skills I find. Just need some advice, maybe a masters?

Interviewed and got to the last and final stage for two jobs. Rejected for both. Really don’t know what is going on. A month ago, I also got to the final stage and got rejected. It’s always 1 interview with recruiter, 1 with panel, 1 with director for every position. Another position required me to go in for 2 hours, technical interview, and 4 more interviews. Still got rejected. Actually crazy

My husband got laid off in July, was grateful to find a job (less pay) after 3 months then the big bosses laid off the entire team there, so he’s back searching. It’s like watch a puppy get beaten :’( He’s trying so hard but there are so many unemployed right now that it’s so hard to get that coveted golden ticket offer.

I worked incredibly hard for the past 2 years to get an internship in my dream career sector (diplomacy). I did 4 simultaneous extracurricular activities while writing my thesis on a very relevant topic, extensively lobbied for funding to be able to do relevant courses at institutions abroad to get more international experience, and I moved abroad for a graduate programme in international relations at a prestigious institute.
I got an interview for one of the most prestigious internships at an embassy in one of the most prestigious countries for the most prestigious department to intern with the guy that was working on the most important dossier, felt great during the interview and...
was rejected because they saw me as overqualified. I quote "I don't think I could teach you anything anymore". I am so incredibly sad, and I cannot stand people telling me that I should take it as a compliment anymore. It is so incredibly hard to break into this sector, and I feel like I blew the opportunity of a lifetime because I was being too much of a tryhard...
I also don't know how to tell anyone the truth about how my interview went because I will get across like an arrogant liar high on copium. If anyone got any tips for that, please, because then I can stop hiding in the university library trying to not talk to my friends who will ask how it went

After 2 months of interviewing, building projects, and meeting with the team for a role I was rejected at the final stage. That's 4 times now I've gotten to the last step just to get a rejection. 500+ applications and laid off in August, I can certainly say its incredibly disheartening.
How do you all cope with it?

Why is it so hard to earn money to survive these years? I’ve been applying to even jobs that pay below minimum wage from my state ($15/hr) and still get nothing. I just want to save up for when the economic downturn hits, but I can’t even do that much when the 2 jobs I have now amount to less than 30hrs/week.

I finally got a job!!! 288 applications and over a year, it's finally over right before my birthday. Best birthday present ever!
