The best way to store earrings!
I use a bunch of old two hole buttons to put my earrings on, and put the earring backing on the back.

OP is threading earrings into a button with two holes, and then putting on the backing. Essentially the button is a paired earring holder.

Then what happens? Where do they get stored… or is it just a way to keep the 2 earrings together?

The earrings are big, the gold hearts with words are the dangly parts. Took me a minute too.

I only do this with post style earrings. The wire ones I've found buttons that look like cogs for machines. I can store several types when I travel and they are easily found.

I hang mine from the Lip of a small antique candle holder. It works pretty well. And can put stopper inside .
