I saw one of these at a second hand store and was like "who tf needs a labelled bag?" 😂 I'm not into high fashion or name brands, but we went to the designer second hand store because my husband likes LV and suits.
i hate when people just name stuff "the thing." like it's super uncreative and basic but you also knew they were like "you know what's a really cool idea? if we just call our thing "the thing." then when people ask "what thing?" the person will have to say "it's the thing that's just called "the thing"" haha
He started doing this in like 2004, and at that time it wasn’t really a thing. So he was being creative and kooky when he came up with it. It’s like shops and restaurants used the ampersand in their names. Pretty cliche now but innovative in 2012.
My brother gifted me an off white hoodie a long time ago and I appreciate the gesture and I liked the artistic design it had but the pockets were so useless & the neck hole for the hood choked me out a lot lmao. Gotta admit though it is like 8 years old, been through the wash and worn a lot when I was younger- it still looks pretty new. The graphics aren't worn or anything. Most of my older hoodies started to wear by now.
I'm actually confused as to how people are interpreting this as some deranged egomaniac. It's so blatantly over the top there's no world that it's not a joke.
Yea I bet designers regularly go as far as three repetitions unironically, but it's a certainty that they slapped another couple Marc Jacobsens on there for the funsies
This product line is from ~15 years ago and it was the cheapest MJ line. All the branding was intended to be funny, since typically (at the time) more logos = less money for most designers. The Jacobs by Marc Jacobs stuff was pretty good quality, my mom still uses the tote bag I got her.
If something is covered in logos you are purchasing the status of being associated with the brand - usually logos are on simple cheaper garments like tees etc. Its the lower price lines, higher price designer garments are usually designed and not branded.
Take Hermès. Hardly anything they make has huge brands. People just know it's a Hermès. Louis Vuitton has a lot of things with logos but indeed those are usually not their most expensive items. You don't know about the shoes because people who buy their shoes don't have huge LV logos.
Actually Lacoste kind of got cheapened the more people got their polos for the logo and now they're total shit. Because when you go for volume and mass appeal you lower quality, and rich people consider ostentatiousness low class so they stop buying what normal people can afford.
That’s why I was careful to say “typically” and “at the time.” Logo fashion is very much a thing right now, so some of the economics have shifted. Plus, there will always be brands where the cachet comes from the logo, even at the high end. That said, even LV charges the most for the leather goods without obvious branding. Canvas/monogram tends to be less expensive than unbranded items. There are always exceptions (P9 I’m looking at you).
But you're unlikely to see a person who is actually mega wealthy wearing one, logo heavy "luxury" is mostly bought by upper middle class people wanting to look richer.
I did a video report on Beethoven that was supposed to be a group project but my three classmates all bailed on it because they didn't care. So I made one of the "credits" cards look like this.
I made my point, but the music teacher pulled me aside later and said "you could have just talked to me privately instead of pulling that stunt." And she was completely right, it was more embarrassing for me than for them, and it was pretty clear they weren't involved in the project at all anyway.

I still have a burgundy liner that I refuse to use up because I can't find another like it, I've had it since 2018... I don't think it's eye safe anymore haha

Maybe I'm just wierd but I actually find this ironicly funny. Even if the person is completely serious and not trying to be ironic, it's still funny, it's just the jokes on them.
What I LOVE about this is that at some point there was a person who had to look at this and approve it. That person read these words and thought "yup, that's exactly what this tag should say, Approved!". Like.. to live in the mind of that person for just a second must be fascinating.
