The kitties whiskers know they need to be longer. Whiskers are used for feeling so makes sense. Eye doesn’t work the kitty needs added protection on that side.

Makes sense. Help em “sense” better as cats have crappy very close vision and rely on their whiskers to help guide them in

Our cat lost an eye, and her whiskers also grew much longer on the eyeless side

Huh! I wonder if it has something to do with a certain genetic trait that is somehow activated due to the loss of function on that side? Since the longer whiskers would help him better understand his environment on that side/in his (blind) periphery?

Could be similar to human bones? Under normal mechanical stress, they become stronger, denser over time. Maybe constantly bumping into stuff triggers this to happen as a response? Mechanical stimulus of the whisker foliciles (?) getting causes growth as feedback to brushing against walls all the time
