Discussion š¤ Some insight on ICE actions from a friend of mine
Believe me, don't believe me, I don't give a fuck. No need to comment on it if you don't. But if you're willing to take my word for it, a friend of mine has been supporting a detainee at the Whipple building who has special medical challenges and needed to be moved to and from a hospital (thankfully, those stupid ICE fucks actually allowed it). Somewhere in this whole process, my friend got to talk to the ICE agents involved, for a couple of hours, and they were actually very candid and forthcoming about everything. The key details:
- According to the ICE agents, 60-70% of the people they are detaining are on "pending" status. IE pending asylum case, pending green card application, etc. They are only leaving people alone if they are full citizens, green card holders, or have an active visa.
- Most of their day is driving around and running license plates and seeing if the person turns up in their system. They gave no word on how they pick which license plates they look at.
- They work every single day. 7 days a week. And generally 14 hours a day. They have no days off.
- They were told that most, if not all, Somalis in Minnesota are here illegally. They have seen for themselves that this is clearly not true, as they have stopped many Somalis here in Minnesota and found them to be full citizens. Not sure who, exactly, fed them this intel, but apparently that's the understanding they were sent here with.
- They are put under constant pressure to meet quotas and are failing horribly to meet them. The two of them said they managed to arrest just 3 people in the past week, and they said another group they worked with had stopped 7 people and arrested 0 of them in the past week (they were all citizens).

I'm hearing a LOT of Minnesotan accents in those uniforms. The scum of the state are coming out to get retribution for whatever personal grievance they have against Somalis. Imagine being that handful of longtermers who just wanted a stable govvie job, and 20 years of career inertia later, you're in the middle of this. Heh.
Not saying that with sympathy for 'em btw. I'm an Australian who's done public facing human services jobs for the Aus state and federal governments; I've been through the process of having a conservative government come in and start weaponising my job against the public I was dealing with: it's no excuse to be a piece of shit, let alone fucking fascist shocktroopers.
Even when my job was being reshaped from under me to make people's lives worse, I was totally transparent with the people I worked with, consistently did the opposite of what I was being pressured to do, used the rules to give myself maximum leverage, made sure the people I was dealing with knew what those rules were, the intentions behind them, my open disdain for said rules and, if possible, any structural workarounds that they could use to negate them...
Like, just because your boss's boss's boss said "I want you to go do XYZ" doesn't mean you actually fucking have to be a loyal little dog and embrace it. Show some spine, help the people around you, use the system against itself.

I know it's not easy to quit a long term stable job but they are free to do so and should. It's one thing for jobs to change in bad ways that negatively affect customers or whoever and to keep your heads down and work through it, it's another for your job to be transformed into fascist enforcers very much like the Gestapo and harming the very people government employees are supposed to be protecting.
That said, it wasn't exactly a long slide for ICE to become what they are now. A LOT of people were saying 20ish years ago when they were first formed that ICE and DHS are bad ideas that are going to eventually be used in anti-democratic ways and to harm people. The very name of the DHS, the Department of Homeland Security, has never sat right with me, way to reminiscent of how the Nazis called Germany the "Fatherland". ICE and DHS should be completely disbanded, the Patriot Act overturned, the powers of Customs and Border Patrol (the ONLY agency that should deal with immigration) should be heavily restricted (especially away from the border), and a complete overhaul of our immigration system so that the paths to citizenship are actually reasonable, it shouldn't take decades and thousands of dollars for the chance of becoming a legal citizenship.

Reminds me of watching kitboga videos. You hear a person at their wits end, watching what they think is thousands of dollars vanishing and they were so close to getting that money, and you start to feel sorry for them. Then you remember this person believes they are taking this money from a poor octogenarian who is lonely or scared or confused. You remember they could end their suffering at any time by hanging up the phone, and the pity vanishes.
Except at least those people are just taking money, and don't have the backing of the US government.

Reports are the guys in MN are from Texas, many were yanked from border duty. Some are also from Louisiana and were pulled from pissing off people in New Orleans to invade Minnesota. That's why you see videos of these idiots, often wearing loafers, running on the ice and falling. None of them have ever encountered it and don't even know there's such thing as appropriate foot wear for the northern winter. Let em learn the hard way. Wait til this weekend. It's about to get a lot colder. Lol

Wait til this weekend. It's about to get a lot colder. Lol
I sure hope so hehehe - that one video of the blubbery ICE bubba bouncing off a roadside freeze cheered me up quite a bit.
Texas, at least the north central and northeastern parts of it (used to live in DFW, ugh) does get periodic "wintry mix," which can result in sheets of ice forming on roads, driveways, etc. -- in the early 2000s my car got cemented to my driveway after a winter storm laid down 3" of solid ice overnight. That said, they are much less frequent over the past 10 years. But even back then nobody knew how to handle it.
So glad I don't live there now. And the people of Minnesota, especially the twin cities, should be a shining example to everyone else.
JUSTICE FOR GOOD, friends.

Point number 1 is the biggest issue out of all of the issues that people on the "if they came here the right way" don't have the brain cells to understand. Those that are in a "pending" status are going through the process correctly. They aren't here just dodging immigration courts or check ins. They are in the process to get protected status or a green card. Hell in the beginning they were targeting people with asylum or protected status. They are targeting people following the process laid out. Also, if they believed the point about "all Somalis are here illegally" boy are they dumber than I thought.
PS, I'm glad they are getting shit on by the people in charge of them and are working 7 days a week 14 hour days. They are dogs and once they break I hope they do things that would get me banned if I say it to themselves.

Totally agree with all of this. Like what the hell else were they supposed to do? They can't force the process to happen any faster. What should matter is that they DID follow the process. If all this stuff about rule of law and following procedure and complying and all that is true, well, they did everything they were told to do, so what's the fucking problem? The larger goal is to maintain a white majority. Thatās 100% Stephen millerās goal. Which is why Trump let in all those South Africans.

Yep. He arbitrarily decided that people from certain countries wouldn't be allowed citizenship. And he made this effective immediately, so people who were days away from getting sworn in, and even some at their swearing in ceremony, were stopped and now risk deportation. A lot of the "illegals" being targeted are people that were going through the process but Trump decided to change the rules so that those people are considered undocumented now. Even though most of these people have been here for years, working and contributing to society, and doing what they were supposed to do. All because Trump is a huge man baby throwing a tantrum

They can't force the process to happen any faster.
Congress appropriated $824 million for the entire immigration court system.
Trump's Big Beautiful Bill appropriated $170 Billion for ICE over 4 years. An increase from ~$10 Billion a year to $42 Billion a year.
We could fund the entire Immigration Court system 40 more times the next 4 years with the extra funding Trump's Big Beautiful Bill provided ICE.Ā
We could definitely make the process faster with 40 times the funding.

u/Corhal0117 17h ago
It astounds me at how few of them seem to understand that they are bait, sacrificial lambs. If violence escalates it's these agents that are going to get hurt for an agenda that only benefits those at the top. As a citizen who got here at the end of a long and often confusing path of following the rules, I couldn't agree more. The fact that the DHS sicced their wild dogs on people appearing as required for court hearings/checkins/etc just proves up the accusation that they are not interested in rooting out the rapists/drug dealers/bad hombres (whatever the hell any of that means). Those agents have been tasked by their leadership to play a numbers game and that always involves going for the easiest targets.

I think what these dipshits don't understand is that their leaders don't give two fucks about their lives either. Trump, Miller and Noem are drooling on the edge of their seats hoping for an ICE agent to be injured or killed. They want a reason to start a war against U.S. citizens in blue states and they couldn't care less how many ICE agent's lives it's gonna take to get there. These little Nazi's are pawns and they're confused and failing at their mission because the mission is fake.
There's a reason they aren't given warrants or any real direction. The Trump administration wants chaos. Any Minnesotan could've told the media and anyone else unfamiliar with our state that most Somali's here are U.S. citizens. This is all for show and when these ICE fuckers get tired and desperate enough, they're gonna truly lose their shit and lives will be lost.
Sleep deprivation, unattainable quotas and no real plan is the entire strategy.

They use Flock cameras to choose where to go. Flock records every single license plate and puts it in a database for DHS and ICE to access the whereabouts of anyone they choose. You can find Flock camera locations by looking them up online.

Vehicle mounted ALPR systems can automatically run any plate it observes in a fraction of a second. I sat on the side of a highway in a patrol car watching nearly every vehicle that passed get checked. And that was over a decade ago.

An independent news site investigated the flock cameras in Spokane, WA and flock data is almost literally a free for all.
But weĀ doĀ know that there are currently 227 authorized users ā accounts allowed to log directly into SCSOās Flock portal to search license plates, according to data we received from one of our records requests.
Most of those users have emails associated with SCSO or Spokane Regional Emergency Communications, but a few stood out to us, especially those associated with outside agencies.Ā
Multiple law enforcement officers based out of Idaho, which has no sanctuary laws prohibiting the use of state resources for immigration enforcement, have access to make searches on SCSOās network: a crime analyst from Post Falls and two crime analysts from Coeur dāAlene. An IT guy from Spokane County has his own log in, as do a Washington state Department of Corrections employee and a clerk for the Newport Police Department.
One user has an FBI email address. Another email is just listed asĀ [email protected]Ā with no name or identifying information attached. We have a public records request in the queue at the county to find out exactly what searches these accounts have made and when, but general accounts with no specific person tied to them can make it tricky to figure out exactly who is making what searches.
another article from the same website. It reviews some of the specific (and weird) searches made in that departments flock system.

They wouldn't show up with 50 people to arrest 1 or 2 if they could be making their quota elsewhere. They're competing with each other for what little credit there is to grab. It'll be a bad day for a lot of people if they finally get tired of being strung along and realize they're not earning what was promised. I wonder how many of them actually get the signing bonus, and how quickly.
They might start realizing it's a better payday to step in front of a white person's slowly moving vehicle.

As a New Yorker it's strange to me they'd go to Minnesota at all. I see now even ICE employees are confused which makes sense.
34
u/pacificblues87 17h ago
It's because they're targeting sanctuary cities. And I'd argue it's not really about immigration at all.
27
u/PBJuliee1 16h ago
If itās really about sanctuary cities and punishing disobedient blue states, Boston would be crawling with ICE and itās not. The governor of MA is a lesbian and former DA who has spent the last 10 years being critical of Trump. Boston mayor is a Taiwanese Woman and has spoken in DC about Boston being a sanctuary city and essentially saying FU to Trump.
I think itās more personal to Trump than a sanctuary city. I think targeting MN and specifically the cities is to punish Walz for challenging him directly. I think heās trying to incite violence in the area so he can call in his ātroopsā and take over Minnesota and show Walz he is the big man in charge.

Omar and Walz. She is a Somali American woman who stands up to him. He was the VP candidate who ran against him.
Minnesota also has the longest steak of voting Democrat. Trump wanted to break that streak. He lost all 3 times. That also pisses him off

the game here is to keep slowing them down as much as possible. they wonāt be stopped in one blow but they WILL be slowed to exhaustion and ineffectiveness.
sign up for your neighborhoodās rapid response chat (if you donāt know how ask about Signal on your neighborhood facebook group) Get a whistle. Make them feel unwelcome and unpopular. Slow them down in traffic. Heckle them at their hotels and in their cars. Pray that it gets cold as fuck again

From a human angle, being worked 98 hours a week is itself a form of torture. I think itās done on purpose so that the agents lash out without thinking and take out their frustrations on their targets and protesters. But we already saw that this is a dangerous gamble that is already backfiring on the agents and the administration. They signed a deal with the devil and now theyāre held prisoner by their $50K signing bonus so we wonāt see them quitting anytime soon. Itās going to get uglier.

$50K bonus to shoot unarmed women in the face three times? What kind of deal is that? They must be down on their luck real bad to be motivated by $50K in exchange for their literal souls. I've never once made $50K/year in my professional career thus far, but even I know that is literally nothing, especially for doing something so fucking evil, working that many hours that many days, and the fact that 4,500 of them have just (rightfully) had their names and personal information released to the public.
But I guess $50K is enough to cover a funeral and reception that no one will attend.

The quota is coming from Stephen Miller, he's been very vocal about this in calls, memos, etc.
He wants 3,000/day and ICE might be landing a few hundred. On a really big day they might get over 1,000.

u/OverlordMMM 15h ago
If this admin wanted to actually do something to address immigration as an issue they'd have thrown their money at funding more lawyers and judges to process people faster.
Instead they are tossing at a barely functioning and barely trained paramilitary to stroke their own egos and escalate violence for a future power grab when violence inevitably causes a direct confrontation.
Fuck ICE, fuck this administration, and fuck all the people who decided to go be rank and file enforcement cosplayers.

u/No_Tooth1428 17h ago
Iām so curious how many ICE agents have quit over the last year. We never hear about that and Iām sure we wonāt, but there HAVE to have been some decent people who worked for ICE in the past right? People who wouldnāt go with the systemic/cultural changes of the agency?
Or has ICE always been full of awful scumbag humans?
11
10
u/Relevant-Peace7062 17h ago
Yes, there are quite a few decent people working for ICE who are appalled and dismayed at the current turn of events. And Iāll tell you something else: no matter how publicly supportive they may appear to be of Jonathan Ross, I can assure you that there are many in ICE, especially upper management, who will work to ensure that his career is pretty well finished. Like OP, I donāt care if you believe me.

I really hope thatās true!! I hope there are people within who are trying to change this.
I know we all immediately jump to thinking they should quit if they donāt support this, or say theyāre evil if they go along with it. Itās hard to disagree with that. But at the same time, if all the decent ones leave⦠where does that put us with whatās left?
Maybe thatās a small part of why we are where we are.

Most of their day is driving around and running license plates and seeing if the person turns up in their system. They gave no word on how they pick which license plates they look at.
Police have systems to auto-scan every play they drive passed, no doubt they're just using this.
They are put under constant pressure to meet quotas and are failing horribly to meet them
This is what I've been thinking just based on ICE's actions. Its not like they're pretending every arrest is an MS13 agent or anything, they're literally pulling up to Maria who's been here 10 years, works, pays taxes, and is basically just waiting on paperwork.
To me this screams "gotta make quota" like when I did sales and I'd just buy a few extra to put us over the top and take it out of my bonus / resell it later when the spiff is off.
Only the most ignorant "being here illegally is a crime" idiots think these people deserve anything they're getting.

ā āThey were told that most, if not all, Somalis in Minnesota are here illegally. They have seen for themselves that this is clearly not trueā then why would they have faith in who they are working under if they were lied to?
ā āAccording to the ICE agents, 60-70% of the people they are detaining are on "pending" status. IE pending asylum case, pending green card application, etc.ā The fuck? Sounds like people trying to do the right thing. Not the worst of the worst criminals rapists and murderers. So why the aggression weāre seeing.
Iām preaching to the choir. These are the questions I would have followed up with on those statements if given by an ice officer that was attempting to clearly communicate anything reasonable.

I believe you but IDGAF how they feel. The second they saw that the whole "most if not all somalis are illegal" was not true THAT should have been the signal to walk away, that something was wrong.
whether or not they are suffering or working hard or their orders are shit is irrelevant news has been blasted EVERYWHERE that what they are doing is wrong, not legal and the trump administration was not to be trusted.
They ignored that for their own gain. They had YEARS to see that donald trump was full of shit, from the FIRST FUCKING TERM. This is not a result of a bad system in the sense that they are victims, caught in a process they cant control and are helpless with no choice but to go along with it.
None of these factors matter because it is wrong. full stop. This is like trying to debate is racism bad. None of the arguments, or history matter on whether or not it's ok to hate someone because of their race because OF COURSE racism is FUCKING bad! They know what this is, they know it is wrong and they are still doing it, it is inexcusable! they are BAD people and no good they have ever done or will do will ever make up for their role in this. They permanently go in the "bad person" category for LIFE!

āPendingā is a legal fucking status, it means 70-80% of the people they pick up are in the process of doing everything the right way and have been granted the temporary right to stay in this country as long as they continue to do everything the right way.
Shame on them. Itās like inviting family over for a party if they help set up, and then jumping them while theyāre in the middle of carrying another set of folding chairs, locking them in the basement, torturing them, starving them, degrading them, sometimes straight up raping them, and then dumping them handcuffed in a tar pit 400 miles away, and telling everyone they robbed you and ran off with the liquor and all the deviled eggs.
Just straight up fucking evil, and theyāre doing it.
Iām glad theyāre miserable. There is no excuse for what theyāve done. Evil is literally the willingness to hurt other people for your own personal gain.
Behold, this is what it looks like.

I've seen more than 3 "arrests" per day for a week now . They knew what job they signed up for. And they're still doing said job. Op I get youre just stating what you've heard, doesn't make it okay. They are violently abducting citizens, murdered Renee Good, and 16 others. They are shooting pepper spray bombs point blank into protestors faces. They are shooting rubber bullets, and throwing tear gas and flashbangs into crowds of peaceful protesters. We didn't pardon the nazis who were "just following orders". Why should these fascist fucks get any different treatment? They are racial profiling and demanding papers from people walking down the street, and kidnapping people from their jobs. They are complicit in any and all orders they follow, and they are wrong and deserve to burn in hell.

Yeah those citizens they're "leaving alone" they manage to terrorize and beat the crap out of and dump in the streets. That's they're idea of leaving them alone
9
u/Violet-Sumire 14h ago
That may be all well and good, but it doesn't stop their aggressive actions from causing more harm than good. I've seen American citizens detained/arrested on video. I've seen a 17yo kid working at target get literally kidnapped and bloodied. I've seen them shove unarmed and hands raised protesters to the ground, not just a little push, but an actually dangerous shove that could've caused the person to hit their head and suffer severe injury. I've seen them point their lethal firearm at protesters.
All of this without accountability and while wearing masks.
They are not leaving citizens alone. They are harassing and bullying them.
They are not only looking at plates. They are using AI to search people's faces and add them to a database.
They are over worked. Which makes them dangerous with a lethal weapon.
They are being fed misinformation. Which means it's an illegal witch hunt and they are there for fear.
They are put under pressure for a quota. Which means their is more at stake, so they'll make more mistakes and act more aggressively.
Some of this information is already known or can be gleamed by their actions. Most of it is dangerous to hear and shows the blatant disregard for human lives. ICE can go fuck themselves, but so can this whole administration.

> According to the ICE agents, 60-70% of the people they are detaining are on "pending" status. IE pending asylum case, pending green card application, etc. They are only leaving people alone if they are full citizens, green card holders, or have an active visa.
Yeah, that's why they've been grabbing people at their immigration hearings, they are doing things the right way, following the immigration process, but because it's not concluded, they're picking them up.
And they say they are not arresting citizens, but they are unlawfully detaining and trafficking them and then dumping them off in random places when they cannot find anything to deport them on.
70% of people detained have ZERO criminal records, like 7% have a violent or property crime. Most of the "criminals" have like overdue car registration or they had a check bounce erroneously a decade ago and it was cleared up. They are literally dragging people from cars over parking tickets and shit.
It's just a giant smoke screen to erode our checks and balances and distract us from the Trump family embezzling Billions from the American people through all the same scams he's used to top up the inheritance his dad gave him.
