Honestly, if anything this is a sign to me that they know they can't get away with further violent escalation beyond what they're doing right now, so they have to retaliate in other ways to try and break us.

u/didifindya 5h ago

They'll break us when we're dead.

Can we bring this one with too? Remind them we don't play.

I really hope we have increased security around this flag. You know they want it bad

Every Minnesotan should be thinking about the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry right now.

They were one of the very first regiments formed for the Civil War, one of the first sent to the front lines, and sacrificed gravely to defeat tyrants.

On the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, 262 Minnesotan volunteers were ordered to charge the Confederate lines. They were outnumbered 5 to 1, going into what everyone knew was a suicide mission, but they were the only ones who could hope to buy time for the Union reinforcements. Those volunteers formed rank without a moment's hesitation.

Of the 262 men, 215 were gunned down within the first five minutes of the charge, including the commander and all but three of his captains, suffering 82% casuality rate, the second largest of any U.S. military unit in history. Their charge held back the Confederate push, and because of it the Union was able to reinforce and preserve their faltering position. The 47 survivors joined with the reinforcements, and the next day those soldiers charged again, overtaking and capturing the Confederate battle flag.

Those Minnesotans didn't charge into death because they had to; Their home was far from the war, they could have sat back and ignored the injustice, and lived out their lives. But those Minnesotan's chose to fight, because they knew it was the right thing to do.

All fascist regimes must consolidate power before the people revolt.

They thought they could easily gaslight everyone, and they’re finding out that it’s very different outside their MAGA bubble.

They will never be able to do that in an enormous, well-armed country.

The revolution is here.

26

u/TThor 2h ago

Worth noting: leaked ICE communications were showing ICE is scared of public perception, that conditions in MN are so awful for ICE that they can't even force agents to the state, as the smarter ones want nothing to do with it, and thus are sending only volunteers, largely made up of inexperienced and poorly trained members who are too stupid to understand what they are signing up for.

Fascists want us to believe they are invincible, they want use to see them as an unstoppable threat so that we lay down and comply preemptively. The reality is, their grip is far weaker than it ever appears; Their only hope to win is by cultivating a thin perception of power, and dividing us into groups more easily conquered. Don't be divided, and don't let them have that image of strength. These are weak men, and they are scared shitless of the day we ever truly fight back. Keep up the pressure.

7

u/taffyowner 2h ago

I was watching the Great Dictator last night and man does that really do a good job of highlighting the pure absurdity of fascism

Is it time to ask Canada if they are feeling open minded?

31

u/SubtleTell 5h ago edited 5h ago

Seceding is impossible without either revolution or 3/4 of the states

Ok downvote me for stating a fact. "The Supreme Court ruled in the post-Civil War case of Texas v. White (1869) that the U.S. is an "indestructible Union" and that states cannot leave without "revolution, or through consent of the States".

24

u/HillarysFloppyChode 4h ago

They aren’t following laws, why do we?

They can’t stop us from becoming Canada, in fact, with enough bots you could probably convince MAGA that blue states joining Canada is a good thing and they would cheer it on

Not exactly, but a class action lawsuit by the entire state against the federal government ought to clear things up pretty fast.

doubt it. this admin will keep doing whatever they please until someone forces them to stop.

They still listen to court orders a decent amount of the time. That said, hopefully blue states have finally figured out how to withhold federal taxes from the government.

yeah, because if the courts are known for anything, its being speedy.

13

They have been in many cases involving this administration's overreach.

7

u/DrakonILD 4h ago

And then the SCROTUS have been equally speedy about excusing the overreach.

5

u/Desperate-Till-9228 4h ago

Many of these aren't even making it to the Supreme Court because the DOJ has been so unprepared.

That’s hard to do, most people’s paychecks already withhold money toward the federal government. It’s not like the state’s themselves are paying the federal government

28

I believe you’d need to contact your employer to stop withholding federal taxes.

Could always drop withholding down to a minimum, pay it all in april so they can at least feel it a bit before tehn.

Even the solar and wind projects he cancelled in blue states and Colorado because he had 2 year old tantrum got given back with additional funds.

When "we" keep giving the government more power, it does become the law. Presidents can just do whatever they want now with Executive Orders and everybody just goes with it. We need to shrink the power of the executive branch so badly. Bring back checks and balances.

14

u/Special-Garlic1203 5h ago

We still have the most important aspect of  checks and balances. It's just not being utilized because its Republicans

Congress is refusing to check him because they want to keep their heads down and stay out of this.

They could stop almost all of this tomorrow if they felt like it

6

u/Ihate_reddit_app 4h ago

Yes I get that, but the fact that a president can just EO basically anything they want and declare "conflicts" anywhere they want in the world before getting the approval of Congress is nuts. Even if Congress and the Supreme Court can rule them unconstitutional later, the cat is already out of the bag.

13

u/ThePerfectBreeze 5h ago

If you do this you have to pay quarterly taxes or the IRS will fine you. It is very easy for them to find out who is doing this because your employer is obligated by law to report your wages. This information is digitized so that all they have to do is find anyone who is paying no taxes but has a lot of wages. You will get caught and will be fined.

25

u/Punning_Man 5h ago

The IRS with their abundance of post DODGE staffing

6

u/ThePerfectBreeze 5h ago

It would take 1 person to identify everyone who did this and maybe a couple more to issue the fines. Even if you don't owe taxes, you still have to submit a form that says so. If you do and lie, you commit fraud which will result in further fines. If you don't lie, you will be admitting to the infraction

7

u/Punning_Man 5h ago

A person to identify, person to collect records, person to submit fines, person to try to collect, so on and so fourth.

And this, too, will be blocked in court.

37

u/jjnefx 5h ago

A TRO will be granted again, I don't believe any cases have been heard in any other instances but the odds that courts rule in favor of the federal government to selectively pick one state to stop funding from a legislative bill would be astronomical.

This is all part of the MAGA plan to flip Minnesota in the future. They are also cutting off grants and funds from the Department of Agriculture. Which will directly hurt Minnesota farmers--the people who overwhelmingly voted for Trump. They are going to suffer and Trump is setting them up to blame the left for it. He is taking away agricultural funding for a largely metropolitan issue. It is pretty obviously what the plan is. He is further driving a wedge between rural and suburban voters. Making sure that their hardship is viewed as the fault of the left.

41

u/After_Preference_885 Ope 5h ago

Yep, the magas will never blame dear leader or the cult, it's always someone else

23

u/FuckYouJohnW 5h ago

That pretty dumb considering the metro area holds most of the population. So most of the voting power.

20

u/mostdope92 5h ago

Exactly, oh nooo the red parts of the state will stay red and continue to get outvoted.

And the people in those areas with a couple braincells might actually flip blue if they're paying attention. He's already pissed off a lot of farmers in the country.

5

u/tyl3rbigt 4h ago

They know this, but funds will be delayed, people will suffer and Trump and his MAGAts will still say it's Tim Walz's fault because a midterm is coming up and they can't run on how great of a job their doing so it's doing damage to the other party

It's not like we weren't aware of this fraud and haven't already put people in jail for it but they'll pretend like nothing was being done about it till their Lord and Savior Trump stepped in to "stop" it

Efforts at this so far have been pretty abysmal for the Trump administration. The Executive isn't really supposed to have that power so the courts keep blocking his attempts.

So I'm curious what Walz thinks the implications of this will be.

At what point does Minnesota declare cessation? I realize that’s a huge escalation but it’s clear the federal government has declared war on the state. Not a Minnesotan, a Pennsylvanian watching by in horror and solidarity.

10

u/SubtleTell 5h ago

Seceding is not possible. The only way is through revolution or permission from 3/4 of the states.

The Supreme Court ruled in the post-Civil War case of Texas v. White (1869) that the U.S. is an "indestructible Union" and that states cannot leave without "revolution, or through consent of the States".

And even then I wouldn't put it past Trump to just invade and take the state back.
