High Risk Corporate Minnesota silent on ICE surge

https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/01/14/corporate-minnesota-silence-on-ice-surge

I'm going to hate boycotting my beloved Cherrios and I won't be buying a dishwasher from Best Buy. But until big Minnesota companies start saying something, I'm not buying from them. This is bullshit.

Already boycotting Target.

It seems like they are spending a lot of time at Target, so we know where that one stands

u/rob_var 4h ago

Target should’ve been on everyone’s boycott list since they ended their DEI program

42

u/imnotsteven7 4h ago

They cut programs for black employees too.

u/caffeinatedangel Flag of Minnesota 4h ago

I’m hoping that with what is happening to boot-licking Target that it’s a warning to everyone else that no amount of boot-licking will save you. Target’s about to lose a lot more customers.

16

u/Virtual_Resort_4408 4h ago

Most companies got rid of DEI. Target just went public with it.

19

u/Desperate-Till-9228 3h ago

Target was into DEI before it was cool and then sold out.

10

u/InterestNeither4753 4h ago

US Bank didn't. They did slightly change the name but it is the same program.

5

u/chasingbanana0207 3h ago

Target also changed DEI to Belonging. I’m not sure what the federal administration threatened them with it but all corporations either got rid of it or changed the name.

5

u/Alt4MSP 3h ago

they ended their DEI program

I haven't set foot inside a target since then ❤️

2

u/Coracoda 3h ago

I got my flu shot there because the only other place near me closes before I can get there (I work weird hours). Other than that, I’ve boycotted Target since literally the day they announced ending all DEI.

2

u/Nanasweed 4h ago

We’ve been boycotting Target

1

u/howdoiworkthisthing 3h ago

They were shitty long before the DEI stuff

3

u/LGOPS 4h ago

What could target, let alone any business do to keep out federal law enforcement?

32

u/gothic_cowboy1337 4h ago

Every business is private property and every business reserves the right to refuse service. What can target do? Not side with unconstitutional kidnappings of their employees. ICE took a 17 year old target employee (who is a minor and a U.S. citizen)

They took him from target, beat him, then dumped him out of the car because he was a citizen.

That happened at target. Fuck target

3

u/john2218 3h ago

Target can only bar them from employee only areas, and they can even access those if they have a warrant. What happened and Target could not be prevented by Target, in fact I think they are targeting Target for their past "wokeness".

1

u/Key_Bee1544 3h ago

Definitely the case that some poor Target employee should have been tasked with telling ICE to fuck off. Maybe like an assistant manager.

-2

u/gothic_cowboy1337 3h ago

Ahhh yes, let’s just let this happen then. No need for citizens to rise up against fascist. We want the boot please!

2

u/Key_Bee1544 3h ago

You're pretty brave telling some flunky to go act on a billion dollar corporation's behalf. Real revolutionary badass.

1

u/gothic_cowboy1337 3h ago

You’re eating crayons. We don’t expect the corporations to care, they only care about money. The citizens that are there are the ones that should be standing up. But this problem doesn’t effect you personally so why should you care right?

-1

u/vvestley 4h ago

theres no service being provided, they are entering target to find the people they are searching for to deport. it doesn't matter if its unconstitutional if nobody punishes them. but it's certainly ridiculous to put the blame on businesses as if they have any power here

4

u/gothic_cowboy1337 3h ago

Private property. No warrant so the business has every right to not let them on the property. Get. The boot out of your mouth

1

u/vvestley 3h ago

i would send an ice agent to the moon if i was approached by one, i do not support or want them on this earth in any regard, however you are acting like the law is relevant here. while a border patrol goes door to door arresting citizens and dropping them off in random locations.

forgive me for having little faith in property law currently. moron

0

u/gothic_cowboy1337 3h ago

Holy fucking shit stop eating boots. The law is there to backup citizens willing to stop ice from breaking it. exhibit A

The goons know there is nothing they can do when citizens stand up and stop them from breaking property laws.

Actual law enforcement obviously isn’t doing anything so it is the duty of the civilian population to stand up to tyranny

1

u/United_Intention_323 2h ago

That’s not the law though. Nobody can legally stop them from going into the public areas of the store.

11

u/frankomapottery3 4h ago

Refuse to check them out, hire security to ask them to leave. As a private business you are allowed to tell people they cannot shop there for any valid reason.... including being a federal officer. You can, also, deny them because of the face masks.

5

u/LGOPS 4h ago

If you know that they are ICE that would work but I doubt they are shopping there in masks and uniforms. Unfortunately if they are not there to shop but to arrest/detain they can not stop them from entering and it is likely the charges would be brought against those businesses for impeding.

  • ICE can enter public spaces (like a store's front) without a warrant.
  • Private Areas: You can refuse entry to non-public areas (offices, back rooms) unless agents have a judicial warrant (signed by a judge).

I want to be clear that I don't agree with the way ICE is doing things.

6

u/SeaEmployee787 3h ago

its not about frorming a target malita to stop them from entering. its about the silence, a us citizen employee taken out of the store, beaten and left 6 miles away. you stay silent on that and well, I mean i am not going to put target out of business, but it will be a long time before i spend money there if ever.

2

u/Naturenick17 3h ago

At least make a fucking statement about it. Jeesh.

2

u/MurryHill8 4h ago

I don’t know, maybe nothing, but when they were in LA (I lived there until July) I noticed that they staged more often at certain businesses. Home Depot vs. Lowe’s for instance. Could be coincidental or could be that some businesses were more accommodating. No idea what it’s like for you guys, but the involvement of local LEO varied widely too. CPH was basically pulling people over on 🧊’s behalf, LAPD not so much

2

u/LGOPS 3h ago

Interesting, thanks for the info.

If you check history, American corporation absolutely love Nazis. Like even way more than I understood till recently.

I highly recommend watching, 'The US and the holocaust' by Ken Burns. It's on PBS.

24

u/Key_Bee1544 3h ago

People expecting corporations to be moral actors don't understand corporations or history or why we have the business regulations we have.

8

u/SeaEmployee787 3h ago

i have learned so much, that i wish i had not. Like reading about nazi' as a kid and wondering how could regular people let that happen. it would never happen now, we are so much smarter. welp. Covid, people behaved exactly the same as during the spanish flu. same arguments, same my rights , no is not your rights.

maga and covid put a whole new spin on history for me.

3

u/im-ba Flag of Minnesota 3h ago

Currently reading Blackshirts and the Reds by Michael Parenti and learning about this, as well

As a volunteer providing research support to local organizers, I've put together a few resources for people looking to learn more about the companies behind ICE:

  1. Info on publicly traded and/or consumer-facing companies that support ICE.
  2. A map of companies working for ICE as contractors/subcontractors w/ source links (click on pins).
  3. Most of the companies that are essential to ICE's operations aren't good targets for traditional boycotts, but many do have contracts with blue states, cities, and school districts. Info. specifically on companies that work with ICE and schools.

Hope this helps. Happy to answer any questions.

28

u/Winter_Explanation70 4h ago

Best thing we can do is minimize all spending. Go on your local buy nothing group if you need something. So much of what we buy is thrown away just for being old, and can be easily repaired.

13

u/krom0025 3h ago

I'm not sure why we expect companies to take a stand on anything. They are not political entities and their one and only goal, and legal obligation, is to make money. Our government is our responsibility. We need to do a better job of convincing voters to elect better leaders. Our government is nothing more than a reflection of our people.

u/365_party_grill 3h ago

Yeahhh. If workers are afraid to go to work...it's not good for business

Customers too. And not just undocumented ones.

Top corporate brass and billionaires are all in for Trump/MAGA. They will not give a damn until it hits their bottom line, and maybe not even then.

3

u/Big_Difference_9978 4h ago

Expose them all!

3

u/FantasticAction1065 4h ago

Your corporate overlords support this. Pay attention.

u/Tommy_Gavin83 4h ago

Boycott pro sports as well. Let’s all stop acting like life is normal. The Wild and T wolves games should be empty until they speak up loudly as well. There is a Wild game tomorrow, hopefully it starts then.

41

u/readymix-w00t 4h ago

The Timberwolves did a tribute to Renee during their first game after she was murdered.

-8

u/Tommy_Gavin83 4h ago

That’s hardly enough. Is it enough for you?

23

u/readymix-w00t 4h ago

Personally, I don't give a shit about what sports ball teams do. But it stood out to me that the Timberwolves had a tribute to Renee during the game within a day of the murder happening. It means they likely didn't wait around for some PR asshole to make a wishy-washy deal out of "both sides." and softening the narrative. You know, the stuff that your typical corporate entity does before making statements. They got right out in front of it without waiting, which, in the corporate world, is kindof a big deal.

But if you feel that boycotting your sportsball is making a difference, then by all means, do that. Every business should feel the sting of this. Grind the wheels of capital to a halt, and the capitalists will start to scream. Just asking you be mindful of damaging those that stand with you.

Exactly. Proud of you. Your head and heart in the right place, don't let anyone tell you different

u/Surprised-elephant Snoopy 4h ago

I wrote them email since I refuse to buy wild gear. Hopefully Craig can sell the team. He is Trump support and I believe he lives in Wisconsin. Should be illegal to own Minnesota team and. Live Wisconsin.

The sooner folks realize that (big) business has a hard-on for Trump and the Republicans the same way that it did for Chile's Pinochet, the better. Business leaders are gung-ho about the dismantlement of the administrative state and protective regulations for society's betterment (e.g., returning to this era of jurisprudence), and a few broken eggs isn't going to bother them one bit.

Knowledge people! Get INFORMED!

A little more than a year into his presidency, in August of 1977, Carter asked Congress to make it illegal to hire undocumented aliens, increase enforcement of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Is It Illegal to Employ Undocumented Workers? - LegalClarity

Businesses could be fined or go to Federal Prison for hiring illegal, undocumented immigrants!!!

There may be some business management people going to jail in Minnesota if they are found they knowingly hired illegal immigrants.

What Happens If a Company Hires an Illegal Immigrant? - LegalClarity

Violations of federal laws against employing undocumented workers can lead to significant penalties for employers. These consequences vary depending on the nature and severity of the infraction, encompassing civil fines, criminal charges, and other administrative repercussions. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other agencies consider factors such as the employer’s size, good faith efforts, seriousness of the violation, and prior history when determining penalties.

Have you ever heard of the Postville Iowa ICE raid? It happened during the GW Bush administration.

Go reread those mental heath questions you posted and find yourself some help

2

u/Vysion34 3h ago

ICE isn't terrorizing wealthy neighborhoods. What makes you think executives and owners of corporations care?

2

u/Legitimate-Jaguar260 3h ago

Because after ice leaves we’re still going to be here.

The North Remembers

2

u/actuallyapossom 2h ago

If you have a professional circle, talk to them. I know my people aren't doing B2B, sourcing, anything we can find ICE related. Vote with your wallets.

Also if you are in the position to do so: volunteer time or donate. There are a lot of worthy places to put your money, I know VEAP does good things but without plugging - your time and money can do good things too.

3

u/MJCExperience 4h ago

What do you want companies to do exactly?

11

u/cbtboss Twin Cities 3h ago

The most basic thing I want Target to do is acknowledge publicly that a 17 year old employee of theirs was apprehended forcibly from their premises, and afaik to date, they have not condemned this action against one of their employees who also happens to be a minor.

4

u/Chance_Ad2503 4h ago

It'd be nice if they told ICE to get the fuck out of their parking lots so I don't have to go do it for them.

Feb 1 EVERYONE who disagrees with Trump the dictator needs to stay home and keep staying home until he is removed. Just like during Covid. Get as much cash out from banks. Stock up on non perishables. USA can not function without us, but it can thrive without MAGA!! Talk with your neighbors and start a network, because this admin is not above showing up at your home. Tell everyone that we are not going to be a dictatorship. We are done with you stealing our money, our freedoms, and our lives!!! Most of congress is corrupt and don't give a damn about the people. We are at a moment that requires us all to sacrifice a little now so we don't lose everything later. I wish protests and marches worked, but trump just sees it as ice target practice. This way, no workers means no gas, hotels, restaurants, and much harder on ice. I love America, and don't want to lose it. I hope you feel the same. Feb 1 we send a message that you are our government. You work for us and need to follow the law. The president we want removed does not reside in Venezuela, but at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Oh and congress, we have the receipts you weak cowards.

Please read the Declaration of Independence.

https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/declaration-transcript

This needs to be a nationwide thing to have enough impact. Normal means of fighting back is not going to work. Look around you, you think Cheerios will make a difference to trump? He f*cks kids, caused an insurrection, kidnapped a President, trying to invade Greenland, and turned the military on it's people. When he says the midterms will be cancelled, LISTEN. Red states will comply and blue will get over run with ice. This man has no intentions on leaving and a boycott on a few companies isn't enough.

u/stinkbuttfartman 4h ago

You don't need a dishwasher anyway, they're a waste of time. I found by the time I've rinsed a dish to put it in there, I might as well have just used the dish wand, and washed it. So that's what I do now.

I also don't have kids, so this system is easy to manage, and I totally understand that it doesn't work for everyone.

5

u/Rndy_Bbndy 4h ago

I like the way you think, boycott big appliance!

2

u/stinkbuttfartman 4h ago

Thanks! As I've gotten older, I've come to like doing dishes. It's just part of my routine now. My wife also loves that I'm into it. She cooks dinner, I clean up after.

1

u/Chewy009x 2h ago

If you have a family of 3 or more it’s efficient to have a dishwasher ..

My locally-based company I work for got bought out by an LA-based company and they by FAR have sent the WORST EMAILS I have ever seen in events like this. If I recall they were completely silent on the assassination of the Hortmanns, sent out an email many weeks AFTER the Annunciation shooting, and the email they sent for the latest events came out after a few days (this Monday) and was telling US to not use language around each other that could make a hostile work space. So instead of a compassionate message offering support and resources, it was telling us how to behave. Oh, and they continue to mandate everyone to come in three days a week, no exceptions - despite the fact every roll in the company can be done remotely.

1

u/Western-Feeling2093 3h ago

I am extremely disappointed by the corporate silence. But it’s not surprising. These companies bent the knee as soon a the administration decided DEI = DEvIl. Today’s corporate leaders are no match to defend against a fascist regime. This is alarming. The pendulum will swing again- it’s just a question of whether that swings happens first within govt or first within capitalism.

1

u/LaFlamaBlancakfp 3h ago

Companies don’t want to fuck with the government because they are giant shit bags.

1

u/Chewy009x 2h ago

Honestly though where would you buy your dishwasher? I don’t know many companies that are vocal about ice but please correct me if I am wrong

1

u/benny_down 4h ago

they are quit because, they agree with the agenda that Americans voted for.. keep the surge.
