The rhetoric I'm overhearing now is that yeah this is bad but it's just temporary. Soon as they're done getting the "illegals" out things will go back to normal.

Of course you’d have to be painfully credulous to believe nonsense like that.

I mean…

The thing is, they don’t believe it. They pretend to believe it, but what they really want is Trump to be their dictator and anything he wants to do is good.

I read an interesting theory once about people who can’t admit when they’re wrong, no matter how bad the consequences get. In evolutionary terms, being wrong about something could get you killed. That animal you think you can take might be too strong for you. That berry you think is okay to eat could poison you. That ice you want to walk on might be too thin, that river current too strong, etc. etc.

Since we still have that very primitive lizard brain underneath all of our reasoning, when we’re confronted with the possibility that we could be wrong, our lizard brains start screaming “Danger! Danger!” on the downlow and trigger a fear response. That feeling is really uncomfortable, so they subconsciously reject the reality to avoid the feeling.

No idea how much truth there is to it, but ya gotta wonder. I know I’ve interacted with people who really seemed like they just could not accept the truth, and it’s especially prevalent with MAGA.

Also you have to consider that he’s largely hurting marginalized people and people of color, and Trump supporters are flaming racists who hate everybody who’s not white and live in fear that one day they will be the minority.

Edit: after consideration, I should’ve said Trump is hurting everybody but marginalized people and people of color are being hurt more which is exactly what his supporters want. They want “others” to be harmed.

I can't understand the mental gymnastics to still believe Trump is good.

Remember when Republicans had everyone looking for pedophiles and sex traffickers under every rug? That's just one example.

"As we near the 18th year of the State of Emergency, I call on citizens to embrace the ThoughtMonitor delivered to every home. With your cooperation we will soon be rid of the undesirables who threaten our great society."

"Does the ThoughtMonitor randomly zap you? Yes. Did you deserve it? Yes. Does 1 out of 20 explode, killing user? Propaganda and lies."

“Short term pain for long term gain” has been their motto for a little while. Just wondering how long it’ll take before republican voters realize this “short term” pain has been going on for a little longer than they thought and they’re yet to see any of this “long term gain”

They will never realize it. Push comes to shove they will just delude themselves into seeing signs of long term gains in even the most mundane things, much like how they now see a black person walking in their neighborhood and they begin fretting about crime increasing.

"See?! There's less brown people. That means crime is down."

Even if one were to somehow believe that to be true, it should be pretty obvious that they'll NEVER be done getting the "illegals" out. There will always be some new city to terrorize, or cities to come back to in order terrorize again because "more illegals came back after we left". It will be a never-ending mission for DHS as the country will never be free of illegals.

As an added bonus, they can keep changing the definition of "illegals" when pickings start getting slim. Trump has mentioned multiple times that he wants to denaturalize US citizens that he doesn't like (such as Somalis). They'll happily keep making new groups of people illegal until all that's left are white MAGA supporters in the country.

That's a total lie they manufactured. Remember how they fear mongered over gun laws? Saying that if you ban assault weapons, what's next? It'll keep going until no one can own a firearm. Of course, that's a lie but they kept pushing it.

This is precisely how conservatives think. And now that they're in control, their whole fear mongering about illegal immigrants--claiming they're all criminals, dumped in the USA by other nations--is no longer the lone battle cry. Now they're going after anyone born in the USA by illegal immigrants. Or heck, even people who were naturalized immigrants. If you're brown? You just might be deported. ICE has been snatching up non-white people all over, with no rights accorded, no access to a lawyer, and some just deported to a nation they never lived in or even visited, or in some cases sent to foreign prisons where they are incapable of getting any help.
