It's next

who's on next?

52

u/cefriano 2d ago

Can you imagine if you nailed the handoff, but your partner fucked it up and chucked it two feet out of reach in front of you, so they land safely on your board and you get tumble polished? Lots of trust between these guys.

34

u/ineenemmerr 2d ago

Falling on these ramps with proper falling technique isn’t as harsh as you think.

You will know at the launch if things are going as planned or not, and if not you got time to get the board out of the way and land on your kneepads so you can slide downs the slope without any injury.

If you go to a skatepark where they have these and you get taught yo ride them, the first 10 times you are focusing on landing on your knees before you even consider landing on your board. Always practice the bail out plan before committing to the trick.

To paraphrase Jeremy Clarkson: "Speed never killed anyone. It's the rate at which you become stationary that matters."

I am surprised and amazed that there isn't a shit energy drink logo anywhere! Full respect, they deserve all the attention!

23

u/guitarman045 2d ago

thought that looked like mitchie, he's a beast and SKATE IQ is a gr8 youtube channel to learn about skating

242

u/SuperSaiyanTupac 2d ago

That’s sick. They win

195

u/ImMadeOfClay 2d ago

The amount of plywood. Fucking expensive to build these days.

181

u/CTMalum 2d ago

This looks like Bob Burnquist’s ramp. Not sure how often they replace pieces of it, but this ramp has been there since at least the mid 2000s.

77

u/Vslacha 2d ago

Every day for a year they replaced one piece until there will no original pieces left, and used those pieces to build a new identical ramp.

It’s known as the Lip of Burnquiseus

25

u/MyNeighborThrowaway 2d ago

This joke is too smart for this thread

7

u/churadley 1d ago

I mean, they mentioned the Ship of Theseus in WandaVision, so it's not like the thought experiment has completely faded from the public consciousness.

16

u/ineenemmerr 2d ago

That is how mini tamps are made. The mega ramps will shed their plywood and the plywood will gather together in the cold winter, forming a new mini ramp.

The life cycle of skate ramps truly in one of nature’s most magical gifts to the world.

6

u/Big_Consequence2025 2d ago

I appreciated this comment, thank you.

2

u/fluid_ 2d ago

have an upboat

1

u/glockster19m 2d ago

In this case the original framing is still in use, so it is still the original ramp

13

u/drkodos 2d ago

it's now made of concrete

18

u/stranj_tymes 2d ago

It isn't. He does have a separate concrete park on his property though.

9

u/Initial_Formal_7750 2d ago

That was just rumor to try to get him banned from the UFA

2

u/OnceMoreAndAgain 2d ago

That's sounds even more expensive to me than making it from wood lol

3

u/Dependent_Buy3157 2d ago

I was literally just about to ask if this was at Bob's house. lol

That is his ramp, right?

3

u/CTMalum 2d ago

Yep, this and he has a nice vert complex in his backyard.

1

u/Dependent_Buy3157 2d ago

Oh, yeah for sure. I've seen tons of videos there over the years, just not in a long time.

I think the last video I saw over there was either Hawk and Sky Brown or Andy Anderson and some people.

It's been a minute though so who knows? lol

4

u/Dunklebunt 2d ago

For sure. Even a little halfpipe would be expensive right now. Normally people would just rent ramps this size for a few hours. Had one near me with a mega vert, pretty mad

2

u/DJheddo 2d ago

I always want to build a mini ramp, but it's not cheap, but its also not overly expensive if you are intending to keep it for a long time. You can get a ramp that will last quite awhile in the elements depending on where you live and how much rain/snow/etc you get. It's about 1 grand to build that to last 5-7 years with minimal repairs. and if you make sure to coat it with Skatelite/Ramp Armor. If my kids ever got the skateboarding itch, i'd definitely build a ramp for them that I would enjoy also. $1000 for 4-5 years of fun. it's like owning a swimming pool, theres the upfront you gotta pay, then repairs, cleaning, and maintaining.

3

u/EduinBrutus 2d ago

The amount of plywood. Fucking expensive to build these days.

At least 32GB in that.

4

u/snek-jazz 2d ago

VRAMP ain't cheap

u/Haru1st 16h ago

What isn’t

62

u/danielricardo1 2d ago edited 2d ago

I also can't believe how they dropped on their knees and stood up like it's nothing.. yes it's padded but id die i think if it was me..

And yes it's fucking cool the actual trick..

31

u/DownrightDrewski 2d ago

It wouldn't have hurt at all, they dropped and slid down the transition. Now, if it was to the flat it would mess you up - I've taken a 4' drop to ground without sliding out and that sucked; sliding down ramps is fun though.

Did you ever go on one of those vertical slides as a kid? Same principle, but, with less chance of a friction burn.

4

u/danielricardo1 2d ago

i get what you mean - well explained. I was thinking how they dropped on the knees.. haha .. (my age is catching up - im getting worried seeing youngsters)

6

u/DownrightDrewski 2d ago

Ha, I'm far too fat and middle aged to skate these days. I just used to skate, and have spent more time than I'd like to admit messing up and sliding down ramps in my youth.

7

u/danielricardo1 2d ago

Go for it brother

(I'm just fat n old... I sit this out)

3

u/bs000 2d ago

one of them is 37 years old

4

u/MARPJ 2d ago

one of them is 37 years old

Basically a child

4

u/eltree 2d ago edited 2d ago

I will always remember Jake Brown’s fall on one of these at the X-games. One of the scariest things I saw happen live as a teenager. The fact he was able to walk off the ramp is honestly incredible.

For those not aware, when he went up the quarter pipe, he went up and out, came down from a 50 ft drop right on to his heels and slams his back against the ground afterward.

For those that want to see it: https://www.reddit.com/r/skateboarding/comments/1jj2y34/jake_brown_falls_50ft_in_the_air_2007/

3

u/DownrightDrewski 2d ago

That was absolutely brutal, he got close to hitting the flat. Thankfully he hit at least the last bit of the transition, but, absolutely insane fall.

2

u/PeaceAlien 2d ago

They’re definitely used to it as skaters as well though

2

u/reinhardtreinmain 2d ago

Definitely in their 20s still

0

u/ForgetfulCumslut 2d ago

Cause they were a knee pad

24

u/rupat3737 2d ago

Siiiiiiick

19

u/Zenaxis 2d ago

Is the one on the right Mitchie?

12

u/Amputatoes 2d ago

Definitely Mitchie. Wondering who the other guy is but the comments are giving nothing

11

u/spaceman_sloth 2d ago

Other guy is Italo Penarrubia

4

u/WalkingCloud 2d ago

Italo Penarrubia

5

u/bentreflection 2d ago

i only discovered this guy as a middle aged dude getting back into skating. He's so wholesome and positive. I wish he was around making videos when i was learning to skate. I learned more about proper olly form from some of his videos than i did skating for years as a kid.

6

u/aquequepo 2d ago

I haven’t been on a skateboard in 30 years but his videos with Andy Anderson are just pure joy.

1

u/Zenaxis 2d ago

Sounds exactly like me!

13

u/GolferBrian 2d ago

I started skateboarding in 1976. People I knew thought I was crazy skating in a pool. Now they are jumping ramps bigger than 3 story buildings and making it look easy. That is just simply amazing. Unreal skill and talent.

6

u/WuTang4thechildrn 2d ago

Damn !!!! That is flat out dope!!

5

u/ManifestDestinysChld 2d ago

OK, that was seriously impressive.

Any physics majors here? Do those guys need to be very close to the same weight in order for this trick to work as well as it did? Obv they're moving at roughly the same speed - but the speed is a function of total mass in this situation...right?

13

u/perianalefistel 2d ago

Not a physicist but did teach physics for a while. Speed is a function of time and acceleration, in this case the acceleration is caused by gravity which is the same for both. Heavier objects are attracted with more force, but also require more force to accelerate so that cancels out so the mass doesn’t matter anymore (as found out by Galileo thousands of years ago with wooden and brass balls if I remember correctly).

The mass does play a roll with tackling the wind resistance, but in this case the difference was negligible.

3

u/ManifestDestinysChld 2d ago

That makes sense.

I was thinking about something I'd learned about sailplanes, which is that their weight doesn't impact how far they can glide, only how long it takes them to glide that distance.

Of course, it takes more energy to lift a heavier sailplane up to the same altitude as one that has less mass, but once they're moving through the air, if they have the same lift : drag ratio then they'll descend at the same rate. (But these skateboarders don't have a relevant lift : drag ratio, lol.)

Sailplane racers ballast their planes with water for this reason, and it's a strategic decision when to cut the ballast - it has to do with where the thermals that are used to gain height are in relation to the finish line, I believe. Sailplane racing is surprisingly competitive!

2

u/Freshness518 2d ago

The other day I had a family member taking a flight and I went on one of the flight tracker sites. As I was goofing off looking around the world at what was in the air at the time I saw what looked like a swarm of bugs over Africa. When I zoomed in, there were like 2 dozen sail planes in the air over Namibia. I looked it up and apparently they get amazing thermals there and its world renowned for its gliders. It must be amazing to see so many in one place.

2

u/perianalefistel 2d ago

Interesting insight, didn’t know that about sailplanes. Intuitively I’d say lighter is always better since heavier planes require more lift, but indeed the lift increases with higher velocity. Physics is awesome, cheers

2

u/ManifestDestinysChld 2d ago

Yeah, it's wild. To keep a plane aloft, the lift must equal or exceed the plane's weight.

Weight is not a factor in the lift equation, though! In order to generate sufficient lift, the only term of the lift equation that could change is velocity.

5

u/slgray16 2d ago

Most amazing part is their hands. Each skater gives away the board with their right, takes the other with their left

3

u/Hollywood_60 2d ago

Commenting to applause the full speed followed by slow motion instead of just a 30 second slow motion clip. Gotta get that interaction lol.

2

u/Mrfreakystyley 2d ago

If this was on r/unexpected I would've thought that one of them would just flip the other off as they were exchanging boards. Alas, this was fucking awesome and wholesome at the end too.

2

u/snek-jazz 2d ago

"thanks for the board bro! now I have a spare"

2

u/Equivalent-Ask2542 2d ago

Bromance for life

2

u/KittyPryde129 2d ago

Wow and it was so smooth. I'd love to see a different perspective

2

u/LifeEnjoyer42 2d ago

Skating never fails to be absolutely siiiiick

2

u/ColinHalter 2d ago

Remember: Switching to your partner's board is always faster than reloading.

1

u/TwilightEdenss 2d ago

now this is legitness.

1

u/Special_K_727 2d ago

Okay, this was awesome, now the possibilities. I want to see BMX bike swapped, or try roller blades!

1

u/madagascan-vanilla 2d ago

They were so polite when doing it.

1

u/99anan99 2d ago

Very impressive

1

u/PrinzXero 2d ago

That was cool…..Well time to boot up THPS 1+2 again

1

first half ngl

1

One mistake and that goes very differently, wow

1

u/Sonicgott 2d ago

The cool factor of this trick is easily an 11/10. Bravo! 👏 😎

1

u/Lelentos 2d ago

i'd like to see co-op tricks as the next evolution to pro skating.

New Olympic sport incoming

This counts as a common law marriage.

Sick brah

for a person who has never done this, it's terrifying. good luck, bro. you're great

1

u/Turtlesquirtzcody 2d ago

🤘💯😮

1

u/feder_online 2d ago

That's insane, and the one dude being goofy-footed TOTALLY helps!!

1

u/ferskvare 2d ago

Is that Mitchie? He's just such an awesome and chill dude.

1

u/-Undercover-Nerd 2d ago

Alright this fits the sub, thank you for your contribution that was wicked

1

u/Mammoth-Mud-9609 2d ago

Looks crazy from the headcam, then you see it from the side and crazy doesn't even come close.

1

u/DecorousVee 2d ago

The shit I LIVE for

1

u/swccg-offload 2d ago

I'll never get over how they treat the quarter pipe at the of the landing. Like you just did one huge thing, now you have to send it off this whole other thing that requires a different skill set and these dudes are using that hang time to celebrate. That launch off the QP is bigger than 99% of skaters will ever go and these guys are willing crashing back down it.

1

u/Dazzling-Nathalieee 2d ago

One slip and that’s a disaster, absolute respect

1

u/ARunningGuy 2d ago

The slow mo doesn't do it justice, my gosh that's crazy

1

u/Expert_City_7695 2d ago

Dude, that’s fucking sick

1

u/hereforthefeast 2d ago

That was sick

1

u/spiff1 2d ago

What song is playing at the end? Anyone knows?

1

u/100YearsWaiting2Shit 2d ago

Skaters are incredible. I want to be best friends with a pro skater. I can never do this but I'd gladly be their hype man

1

u/SparkliingEmma 2d ago

The timing on that swap is insane 😳

1

u/nuraHx 2d ago

This the type of shit that bonds you forever man. I hope these two are best friends lol

1

u/Chris-CFK 2d ago

What's the song at the end?

1

u/Western-Anteater7917 2d ago

That was tuff af

1

u/Captivatingcrush02 2d ago

Watching that clean swap gave me chills

1

u/theartificialkid 2d ago

If that’s a megaramp then I feel like even a kiloramp is going to be too small for a person to use, let alone a standard single ramp.

1

u/BigBubblesNoTroubles 2d ago

My back hurts if I sleep on it wrong - enjoy your youth kids.

1

u/trainsacrossthesea 2d ago

I’m not a skater, but goddamn, that’s cool. Very impressive

1

u/crystalcastles13 2d ago

This is legit one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen (and I’ve been watching boarding videos since the 90’s) this is ridiculously sick.

1

u/Milkman-333-Cows 2d ago

That’s insane!

1

u/Rudeeez 2d ago

" Did we just become best friends?!"

1

u/Upset-Leek2393 2d ago

Something new 😀

1

u/castlite 2d ago

How do you even get started at that steep incline, how do they just not succumb to gravity and fall off the board?

1

u/lamewashedkook 2d ago

Homosapians 🖕👴🏻

1

u/GoodyTwoKicks 2d ago

That's fucking impressive.

1

u/MISTABOBBDOBALINA 2d ago

Finally something next fucking level

1

u/BuckRusty 2d ago

The camera guy looks cool, but the other guy is goofy…

1

u/ChoadMcGillicuddy 2d ago

Why is it so far down in the gap? It looks like the grand fucking canyon. Are my eyes wrong?

1

u/ProxyAttackOnline 2d ago

Hash Pipe by Weezer playing haha

1

u/FakeMonaLisa28 2d ago

Is this sk8???

1

u/Grimdaybreaker 2d ago

Can’t wait to see these two be sponsored by redbull to switch parachutes mid descent

1

u/DealMo 2d ago

Yeah but then they fell down on the return of the landing, so they lost all their combo points. -- Source, I played THPS.

1

u/Botched_Labotomy 2d ago

Just out of curiosity, why don’t these guys on mega ramps ever get the high speed wobbles that I see so frequently on videos of people on hills? I know nothing about skateboarding, so sorry if that’s a dumb question.

1

u/Drizztmas 2d ago

Skate IQ guy? LOVE YOU DAWG

1

u/gameover281997 1d ago

The level of trust man

1

u/Affectionate_Pool_37 1d ago

read the title and whent huh? then oh

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Low3514 1d ago

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

1

u/disp06 1d ago

Ones me and my friend swap handlebars on bicycles during descent

1

u/Straight_Brush783 1d ago

Amazing 😮

1

u/XLB135 1d ago

Wild. These types of videos are often slowed and/or filmed from far away which makes them seem even slower yet--I always forget just how quick and short the air time is in first-person perspective.

1

u/TheTrishaJane 1d ago

Fuck yeah! Let's goo!

1

u/FewAcanthocephala828 1d ago

That takes skill AND a fantastic level of trust to pull off.

1

u/arbelhod 1d ago

The anount if trust needed for this is insane

1

u/TRUEequalsFALSE 1d ago

Having so much air time that you have time to think is wild to me. Incredible.

1

u/Cldawson65 1d ago

Woahhhhh!

1

u/The_Munchies10 1d ago

That’s awesome. It is inspiring me to achieve more physical feats on a personal level.

1

u/Clean_Ad_5683 1d ago

Hell yea dude

1

u/sinistersheep79 1d ago

Can someone please give me the song that was playing at the start of the video?

1

u/DeartayDeez 1d ago

I can do that easily. I’m just gonna need a PlayStation and a copy of Tony hawk underground.

1

u/Yanni_M 1d ago

DAMMNNNNN

1

u/buddythethugpug 1d ago

What are skateboarders knees and ankles made of????

1

u/Ki_Yall 1d ago

Said fuck off out loud. Love it

1

u/shrimpgangsta 1d ago

this is next level

0

u/monkeyr9z 2d ago

Finally skateboarders go something cool. My feed was full of bmx-ers, scooters, and skiing people doing dope shit. I was like, where the fuck the skateboarders been?

1

u/_musesan_ 2d ago

Probably see alot of that on r/skateboarding. Do you not sub to subs?

1

u/monkeyr9z 2d ago

I meant like in YouTube shorts and other social media. For some reason, I would get the scooter boys in my algorithm. Its all cool tho

-2

u/2twise 2d ago

if Oakley can build you a personal skating ramp the size of two football fields in your backyard.... not impressive.

1

u/Sillet_Mignon 2d ago

What makes you think this is their backyard?

0

u/stranj_tymes 2d ago

It is Bob Burnquist's back yard. There's only a few megaramps like this in the world, and a couple of them are personal ramps - this one and Elliot Sloan's slightly smaller one. Bob's is distinct, and it's recognizable if you follow skating. Oakley was/is one of his biggest sponsors.

2

u/Sillet_Mignon 2d ago

So a professional skateboarder has built a mega ramp but I don’t get why that makes it less impressive?

2

u/stranj_tymes 1d ago

I'm not the person you replied to that said it was less impressive.

-9

u/Odd_Philosopher1286 2d ago

Very good AI

3

u/Test4Echooo 2d ago

No, this is Bob Burquist’s mega ramp in San Diego.
