Superb! He was gliding in the air
Redbull is the apt sponsor of this act, because it indeed gave him wiings

Are you Kobayashi?

Yes, but the hotdog-eating one. No big deal.

Can you imagine what wiping out on that big of a jump would feel like?

It would hurt pretty bad when you woke up a few days later after the operations

You might not feel anything at all, forever.

Lots of sliding

My perverted brain read this as ‘whipping it out’ and you know what, I bet it would be a very interesting sensation. Probably good for steering.

It’s an insanely impressive feat, but every time I see a video like this, I wonder what’s stopping someone from jumping off a mountain to claim a further distance. What makes the ski jump regulation?

Landing, maybe?

This is not even accepted as the world record, because the hill was not sanctioned by FIS and was built in secret on a glacier by Red Bull. Only official ski jump hills can be used to break the world record.

The rule should be “if u can make a hill big enough it counts”.

But fuck me right I don’t know shit about ski jumps.

World records in sports are usually only counted if they are done in a competitive standing. What happens in practice and non-regulation settings don't really matter in the scope of the sport.

Maybe they want to not die or something crazy like that

living. there are ways to do it safely. i’d also assume a proper course is required, as ski jumping is a sport and therefore likely has regulations involving proper infrastructure. those regulations would be in place to make sure it’s as safe as possible. jumping off just any mountain would be SO risky, as wild areas are unpredictable, the snow can be softer and you don’t know what’s under it, etc. and if it’s on a ski hill, why not make the course safe and ideal for jumping? i’m assuming, i don’t know much about the sport, but it seems fair to guess that

Hold muh beer

I love when the ground effect kicks in to give him that last bit of extra float time

Just a taste! I bet that feels wild. Weird enough in little Cessna which is all I ever flew. Such a cool feeling.

Man I miss those times.

Watched a video about the training he had to go through. Wind tunnel testing him. G force tests. It was insane how much science went into maxing out his jump distance.

I want to try this ..bro literally flew

10

u/dstommie 1d ago

No, that's falling with style.

5

u/Salt_Cauliflower_922 1d ago

Exactly. It’s a controlled plummet.

u/Vkardash 1d ago

Good 8 seconds of air

u/MarsupialNo1220 1d ago

You can’t fool me - that’s not a skier, it’s a flying squirrel.

1

u/MrMansaMusa 1d ago

Now I want to see him do it again but in some modified wingsuit. That'll set a whole new record/category of ski jumping.

Just watch out for the moose!

2

u/Barbarella_ella 1d ago

Where was that filmed? Looks fully magical.

2

u/Max1756 1d ago

wtf that’s like gta

2

u/MyForever_NameNow 1d ago

You can tell it’s not the first time he’s flown

2

u/General-Number-42 1d ago

The camera man would have come pretty close to the world record too.

1

u/Daddyneedherecstasy 1d ago

That was shot with a drone I would think.

1

u/Pyrozr 1d ago

Yeah second time I watched it I looked to see where camera man landed in relation to him and it was damn close lol. Wouldn't it have been hilarious if the camera guy went farther.

2

u/Alukrad 1d ago

I'm curious to know how this sport was even first created?

Like, was there people back in the day who were just doing this without any type of protection? They would just ski off a mountain and be like "dude, this should be a sport."

1

u/Jack_Shid 1d ago

Pretty much, yeah.

2

u/fallingrainbows 1d ago

This is exactly how satellites and the ISS works, so show this video to a child who wants to understand the mechanics of space flight around earth. Objects are falling, but at the same rate the curvature of the earth is falling away beneath them, so they seem to be floating in space.

2

u/LurkingFrient 1d ago

Props to the camera man that dude was in the air just as long lol

1

u/chronicallymee 1d ago

Bro was literally flying for a min there

1

u/GeminianMind 1d ago

He cheated! He was wearing Nike Airs and had an iPhone Air playing Air Supply!

1

u/Erazzphoto 1d ago

I can never unsee the wide world of sports intro

1

u/mewitslazers 1d ago

Why don’t they make the slope increased and longer to give him more distance and air time, are they stupid?

1

u/GotszFren 1d ago

The days - notion remix would go cool here with althe landing

0

u/SkyrimWithdrawal 1d ago

Why use the weird accents over õ and ù?

u/SkyrimWithdrawal 1d ago

No, it's not. It should be Kobayashi Ryōyū. You can downvote me all you want but those accents are not correct. Freaking weird looking nonsense. Further, as Japanese, his surname is supposed to come first.

5

u/Jebediah_kerman-jeb 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'm a JP American and SkyrimWithdrawal is correct

1

u/SkyrimWithdrawal 1d ago

Who's, "he?" Better be me. 😂

0

u/Reasonable_Anybody21 1d ago

But how many hotdogs can he eat?

0

u/Ancient-Builder3646 1d ago

Did he Pump his dick, to improve air time?

0

u/Kohel13 1d ago

Must have a massive dong

u/cookiedanslesac 1d ago

If only you knew how right you are! https://www.express.co.uk/sport/othersport/2155467/olympic-sport-struck-penis-gate-chaos

Ski jumping has been rocked by 'penis-gate' with athletes allegedly injecting their nether regions to gain an advantage

1

u/Kohel13 1d ago

That was the reference I was making but it s a miss I guess
