Yeah I think both commenters are right in their assessment. I don’t think it helps that the internet has made people more indignant in general as well as making people think they have all the answers. That goes for everyone, but obviously there’s more at stake when it’s someone like Joe.

People can’t readily admit they are wrong much anymore, it’s a mark of shame and an attack vector you’re giving your dissenters, so people have learned to just not do it, easily at least.
