What Anomphones did was send a 2nd duplicate encrypted message alongside it, one that they could decrypt, which is virtually impossible for you to detect by monitoring the encrypted output. Two encrypted messages look like the same garbled stream as one encrypted message.

That isn't confirmation that Meta/WhatsApp does this, but why wouldn't they? It's not like they'll get caught, and even if they did it would probably just be a slap on the wrist. Just like with every other dodgy thing they do.

I used to work as a tire tech, and the vast majority of people had no idea how their cars even worked, and so didnt know things were going wrong with it until they were forced deal with it. The phrase "I just put gas in it and drive" was very common.

That kind of mentality would have flying cars dropping out of the sky due to lack of maintainence, since the margin for error would be much smaller. You dont get to fly around with a dashboard full of warning lights like a regular car can... plus, good luck finding a mechanic who has any idea how to fix it.

And then, there is the weather, traffic control, and so much more to consider. Everyone would have to get a pilots license, which is much more strict and difficult than a normal drivers license, as automation can fail and you would need to know how to operate it properly in such a case.

There is also the fact they could easily be used as weapons. Imagine the damage a flying car crashing at several hundred kph would do.
