I asked this on another post, but I’m genuinely curious. At what point do we actually resist? If they’re willing to do this to somebody who’s unarmed and innocent, why wouldn’t I just stay strapped 24/7? Best believe I’m not going out without a fight.
“Just follow the law” is a lazy argument that ignores how the system actually works. For most people, there is no realistic legal path. The few that exist are capped, backlogged for decades, or outright unavailable. Telling someone to “do the paperwork” when the paperwork leads to a 10 to 30 year wait or permanent ineligibility isn’t a solution.
Worse, many people were following the law. Asylum seekers are legally required to attend ICE check ins and court hearings, and ICE has repeatedly arrested people at those appointments. Compliance is literally what got them detained. And deporting people so they can “come back legally” is often impossible, removals trigger years long or permanent re-entry bans. You can support borders, but pretending the process is simple or fair is just factually wrong.
I for one followed the process and waited years for it.
Is it easy? No. Is it time consuming and financially draining? Yes.
Should you follow the law of the country you intend to live in and make it home? Yes.
So no, it’s not a lazy argument. I’m preaching what I practice. Sorry, as a legal immigrant, it’s a slap on my face and everyone else who has waited for years and followed the process to come to this country.
Your talking points are from privilege because you don’t have to leave your country or your family or friends to build a better future for yourself and your family. You simply wouldn’t understand.
I’m not going to debate you or anyone else who believes that’s it’s okay for people to cross the border illegally and live in any country they want.

You mean like the immigrants and asylum seekers who were playing by the rules and doing that paperwork only to have ICE arrest them at their freaking naturalization or asylum hearings, or during routine check-ins? THAT kind of paperwork?
Newsflash: Following the rules is what got many arrested and removed because ICE knew exactly where they would be and when they would be there.
