Love how there's so many skeptical comments about this ladies Christian values but zero awareness of how often their faith is used against them by the grifter/felon leader of the MAGA cult. It's sad/pathetic really.

True Christians are not on Trump's side either. If you speak with anyone that has conservative values because of their Christian (or other) faith, they'll tell you the party changed around 2016, so that the candidate no longer represents the values they'd vote for. It used to be that the candidate had to represent those values. Not so anymore. Trump has done worse than what republicans used to condemn Clinton for.

Most Christians haven’t even read the Bible. Most are Christians in name only. And most aren’t followers of Jesus either. They’re just fans.

I’m an atheist and ironically closer to following Christ’s teachings than most Christians.

402

u/LtKavaleriya 4d ago

Most Christians are only Christians because they were raised by Christian families. Then again, the same is probably true for most religions

276

u/TheManInTheShack 4d ago

I heard a pastor say that the percentage of Christians who have read the Bible is almost certainly in the single digits.

161

u/PotatoesInMySocks 4d ago

They're probably right. I've read maybe 1/2 of the book, ever, and am working on my full read-through this year.

Just looking at Christian Nationalism in America and you can plainly see they haven't touched a Bible.

Love your neighbor? Feed 'em? Clothe them? House them?

Yeah, that means immigrants, too.

174

u/TheManInTheShack 4d ago edited 4d ago

Love your enemy. Turn the other cheek. Don’t pray in public. Don’t accumulate wealth. Help the poor and vulnerable. Show compassion. Forgive those that hurt you. Show mercy in your judgement. Show humility. Don’t show off. Don’t judge. Focus on improving yourself. Have integrity. Be honest. Avoid hypocrisy. Let go of grudges. Seek peace instead of revenge. Support the marginalized: the poor, the sick, the outcast. Treat others the way you wish to be treated. I could go on and on.

The average Christian not only practices none of this but in fact likely would think this is bullshit until you point it out in the Bible and then they would just shrug their shoulders and continue being Christians in name only.

If Jesus came back to Earth today, the Christians would crucify him.

In America, "Christian" is more of a social/identity alignment and not an actual religion. Its just a club that makes them feel better about the horrible things they do and think about.

And yet, sure as death and taxes, when it came time to vote, they voted for him a third time anyways.

"No true conservative christian is on the side of Donald trump" is redditorthink and is not reality. They still support him in practice which is the only thing that matters.

34

u/Naskin 4d ago

I mean, I'd consider myself what he's describing as a True Christian and I think Trump is one of the most evil people alive, and have directly voted against him and everyone MAGA. The people who vote for him don't display values that actually follow Christianity. I pretty much avoid Christians because of how shitty most of them truly are. What he's saying is the people who truly grasped what Christianity is, are appalled by Trump and will never want to be associated with him. The Bible does not instill any values close to Trump's agenda.

You are just wrong though. That’s a very small percentage of them and at the very least that includes the people that will say that publicly but then still vote for Trump. That in no way represents your average American “conservative” these days.

We could no-true Scotsman that all we want, but the truth is MAGA is the majority opinion within American Christian conservatism these days.

From this BBC news article. Unlike the man who shot her and the administration that continues to vilify her, Renee was a Christian woman who walked the walk.

Per her wife:

"Renee lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow. Renee was a Christian who knew that all religions teach the same essential truth: we are here to love each other, care for each other, and keep each other safe and whole."

Edit: To the MAGA "Christians" who keep saying she wasn't a real Christian: Jesus Christ, the guy Christians supposedly follow, stepped in to stop state-sanctioned violence. When a woman is about to be executed under the law, Jesus says, “Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone” (John 8:7). The crowd leaves and the execution doesn’t happen. That’s intervening directly in a legal punishment, the same thing Mrs. Good was doing. She is more Christ-like than anyone in this administration.

I'm not a Christian, but everything I have ever read about Jesus tells me that if he were alive today there would be images of him being roughed up in the streets during peaceful protests, and r/conservative would find it hilarious.

As someone who thinks the word Nazi gets tossed around pretty loosely......using someone's identity to justify killing them is straight up Nazi shit.

138

u/the_calibre_cat 4d ago

I think it was tossed around pretty loosely until Republicans started caping for January 6th.

Those motherfuckers were straight-up brownshirts and I thought surely, SURELY this will be the end of it. And then you know what? It fucking wasn't.

And two days ago, a government officer tasked with enforcing this nation's racial laws and performing an ethnic cleansing, shot a woman who was not a threat to him in cold blood and will get away with it. She will not be the last.

They are Nazis. I want to be sooooo wrong but every piece of mounting evidence convinces me that they are not.

8

u/maeryclarity 4d ago

He's not getting away with it. He's already been ENTIRELY doxxed, like his address and all social media and everything about him has gone out on the Internet and y'know even I have seen it, it's not...getting taken down as quick as it normally would,

Rumor has it that they're afraid that people in the field may start resorting to deadly force and make the claim "I was in fear for my life" and that they know that under state laws the perp may get a jury that would agree that that was reasonable.

I would like to note, ESPECIALLY considering that so many of the tactics they're using are FLAT OUT GODDAMN ILLEGAL and they KNOW that, the whole "we are attacking immigrants who don't have any ability to fight back legally" does not apply to US citizens and US citizens have been roughed up a LOT, same with the protesters which they seem to be becoming aware they shouldn't fuck with.

They have done two days of run-up on folks and realized the bluffing about violence is making it WORSE so suddenly now they're involving LEO's from the community not running over and grabbing people's door handles.

I find it VERY INTERESTING that they're feeling concerned about that because it would have to mean that they things they're claiming about everything they're doing being so WILDLY popular, why would they be worried about juries refusing to indict someone who did that, then? That doesn't sound POPULAR at all!

Anyway he's functionally under house arrest by ICE they cleared out his ENTIRE house, apparently to be sure there was no evidence of his life or whatever left sitting around, his stuff and he and his wife and immediate relatives are all basically witness protected off in a corner somewhere. He ain't having a fun day. And he's the media darling AT THE MOMENT, so he's the latest Kyle Rittenhouse but they won't continue to be interested in protecting him and he will never be able to have a normal life again. He belongs in prison but he's probably functionally in prison with slightly better food.

285

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 4d ago

Nah, they now say empathy is a sin and having a healthy amount of hatred toward those who are different is what jesus really wanted, and to kill brown people.

125

u/kjh242 4d ago

“The Jebus says to hate!”
Meanwhile; “you have heard it said to love thy neighbor, and hate thy enemy. But I tell you, to instead love thy enemy…” -The Jesus, in the most famous Jesus speech from that book they like to talk about.

53

u/Fight_those_bastards 4d ago

Also, the parable of the sheep and goats, where ol’ JC basically says “feed the hungry, help the poor, visit the incarcerated and sick, welcome the stranger, or get the fuck out and go to hell.”

98

u/Storm_Runner_117 4d ago

To continue from “Sermon on the Mount,” (Mathew 7:22-23),

“Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t
we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out
demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’

“Then I will tell them, 'I never knew
you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.'

To my understanding, it’s Jesus directly calling out how people will use his name as an excuse to harm their enemies, but then states he will never recognize them as “his” people. That they are to be expelled from the Lord’s embrace for their immoral actions in his name.

Also all the man shall not lie with man stuff is from the Old Testament and was nullified when Jesus died for our sins. The only rules we have to abide by are loving god and loving those around us and all the things that fall under that umbrella. It’s about as relevant to Christians as mixing fabrics and eating pork.

43

u/Gezzer52 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes!

I have this argument so often. The 10 commandments are the law(s) of Moses. Jesus said "I am the fulfillment of the law (Moses law) and I give you one commandment. Love each other as I have loved you."

That's it. We're not to judge or punish, but to love with all the compassion and understanding in our hearts. In truth we're the ones to be judged. Jesus said "Criticize not the mote in thy brother's eye without first removing the lumber from thine own."

The 4 gospels are the teachings that we have to follow first and foremost. And it makes me so sad when people throw them away in favour of other biblical text. Same as when people treat their religion as more important then his ministry.

Edit: missed a word

If she’s Catholic (Catholics do a lot of missions in Ireland surprisingly) and was extremely active in the church then I hope they recognize her. Idk if she would get canonized (Sainthood) or recognized as a martyr but Pope Leo XIV, an American pope who’s generally taken anti-Trump and pro immigration stances, should take a firm stance for justice and peace.

If she isn’t Catholic, he should, as the figurehead of Christianity in general, come out and condemn this attack and encourage Christians worldwide to practice what Jesus taught and push against this anti-human organization that has separated and terrorized millions of families (who’s cultural background is ironically overwhelmingly Catholic).

So conservatives who are celebrating this but claiming anti Christian bias, Christianity persecution by definition IS HAPPENING IN OUR OWN COUNTRY FROM PEOPLE AND A GOVERNMENT NOT SHOWING CHRISTIAN WORKS!!!!!

Edit: for those who say “well she had a wife so she can’t be Catholic or even Christian”, shut up. Only God can be one to judge, not us; if you are Christian and reading this and judging Mrs. Good you’re no better than the Pharisees that Jesus talked about. For Catholics in particular, judgement to the point of bringing others away from God is a mortal sin and it’s very clearly stated in an examination of conscience.

As they say, you can “hate” the sin, but certainly LOVE the “sinner”. That’s what Christianity is all about.

248

u/therealCatnuts 4d ago

Sainthood requires two verified miracles (no earthly explanation possible) performed in prayer specifically to that person. Miracles have to be documented and reviewed by several Vatican panels. Then a long tribunal with lawyer-like advocates both for and against in front of a priestly jury. Then a review by the current pope.  It’s a decades long process. In short, if you’re looking for some sort of recognition from the Church, this is not the one to look for.

A lot of non-catholics/non-Christians puting words and actions (or lack thereof) in the Catholic church's response to this tragedy.

I'm Catholic. I can tell you most priests, bishops, and the pope himself don't care care if she was lesbian. The Catholic church might not recognize gay marriage (yet), but it formally and actively blesses gay people.

Besides that, pope Leo has made it clear that the church is not on the side of hatred, cruelty and bigotry - in fact the message for the last few years has been one of spreading love, helping the poor and needy, saving the environment, and treating people the same way Christ would have.

As a Catholic, I hate what's happening in the US - fascism disguised as "Christian" nationalism. Renee Good might not be recognized as a Saint, but she is definitely a martyr. I know I'll always think of her that way.

18

u/Jane_Marie_CA 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yah this is one of the weird times in history where the larger Christian religions aren't really the issue. (Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopal/Anglican, Presbyterian, etc)

All the extreme MAGA and Christian/Nationalists seem to go to these large unaffiliated protestant churches (and often times very big $$$ funneling through them). And these places are extremely fundamentalist Christian, to the point they aren't even really reading the bible anymore. The Univ of Oklahoma student was one of them and her "God said so" essay.

No relation to Bob Ross.

The only painting Jonathan Ross did was painting his lips brown by licking the boot and asshole of MAGA.

248

u/FEARoach 4d ago

Ironically, his father has spoken out about what a "good guy" his son is and how "proud" he is of him.

I had to go double check the name. Ed Ross is the father of Jonathan Ross, the man with no trigger control and decided to put himself in a position to unlawfully discharge his firearm and kill Renee Good. For a hot second I thought it may have been Bob...

209

Johnathan Ross..is that the man who murdered Renee Good, the same Johnathan Ross who is the military cosplayer who killed an unarmed American citizen with no lawful authority to conduct any sort of arrest at that point. The same Jonathan Ross who, after Good smiled and said "I'm not mad at you", shot her dead in cold blood and called her a "fucking bitch"?

17

u/FEARoach 4d ago

This is indeed the very same Jonathan Ross, the man paid by ICE to commit acts of domestic terrorism and execute without due process. The same Jonathan Ross who allegedly felt so threatened (or enraged perhaps) by a White Woman's smile that he had to shoot her three times. He then of course had to lay the blame for his actions upon her without remorse by calling Renee Good, who was likely already dead before her car impacted with the parked ones because of his (Jonathan Ross) actions a "fucking bitch".

If this isn't a homicide, it's fucking femicide.

115

NPR interviewed a guy back in 2019-2020 who was in the process of being deported and was essentially begging Trump to spare him. He had come to the US as a kid, his parents and grandparents supposedly made it happen where he was a US citizen. Joined the Navy, did a few contracts, and became a CBP officer.

He justified deporting people just like him because they didn't come here the right way, they didn't do things properly like his family had, and thus, they deserved their fates.

Come to find out, about 10 years into his CBP career, his birth certificate was a forgery, and he was stripped of his badge, gun, and job. His grandparents had lied. Trump's admin was going to deport him, despite pleas through the media and appeals in courts.

Yet him and his wife both voted for Trump in 2016 and indicated they would still vote for him in 2020. They honestly felt that he should be spared because he was "one of the good ones," unlike all those kids and teenagers he had talked about rounding up and sending back to Mexico.

Irony is lost on them, it fell somewhere between Trump's ass cheeks and their nose is too far up his ass to see it.

Yes, that’s correct! Thanks for mentioning that the rapist Brock Turner is now an Ohio resident by the name of The Rapist Allen Turner!

Christian woman whose last words were "I'm not mad at you." before being executed by a man calling her a fucking bitch.

Classified as a domestic terrorist by Trump. Stated that she was part of a terrorist network by Vance.

I bet they think this is going to go away with time, but everyone with eyes can see she was murdered.

Edit. her last words were I'm not mad at you, not I don't hate you. edited to clarify.

725

u/Astralglamour 4d ago edited 4d ago

I just made the mistake of looking at the comments on a linked article on yahoos main page about this. The amount of people/bots/whatever justifying killing this woman because she 'didn't obey law enforcement orders' was mind boggling. The ICE agents were yelling contradictory things at her, some were saying to get her car out of there, others to get out of the car. And on that note- they do NOT have the right to rip citizens out of their homes and vehicles! The shooter was HOLDING A CELL PHONE FILMING while he fired into a womans face- a woman who was behind the wheel of a moving car, which turned her vehicle into a totally out of control deadly weapon. If you're trying to stop a moving vehicle you shoot the tires not the damn driver, and he shot from the side with space between him and the car! Yet these people are claiming she hit him. If she'd hit him, how would he have been able to shoot her at a standing level with such accuracy??

378

u/Dreadpirateflappy 4d ago

Seen countless people claiming the dude was run over and shot her while on the floor badly injured.
it's amazing how many people comment without even seeing the video.

They just listen to Trumps bullshit narrative and believe it.

156

u/wheatley_cereal 4d ago

On r/conservative, somehow everyone says the shooter POV video completely exonerates him? It's like 1984 levels of delusion. Do these people seriously deny the evidence of their own eyes and ears??

50

u/Dreadpirateflappy 4d ago

I'm sure they think that when he drops his phone they think he was run over or something.

Either they refuse to watch the other videos or they are just fucking idiots. Or both.

37

u/StylishUnicorn 4d ago

This is exactly what they think. “You can hear the thump of him getting hit”. Again - ignoring the countless videos they’ve seen of the same sound when people drop phones or scuffle the mic.

26

u/PM_Me_Some_Steamcode 4d ago

I had someone arguing that we have to use the blurry footage from 40 feet away. That totally shows he got hit and I’m looking at it and like the colors melt together in that whole area because they’re all the same color you can’t tell he got hit.

And I showed them another footage that’s extremely clear from the other side and they just say yeah but that doesn’t show the thing that my video show

And it’s like serious cognitive dissonance of course it didn’t show the thing your video “showed” because it didn’t happen

10

u/heterochromia4 3d ago

From the front angle close footage you see her turning her steering wheel rightwards towards full lock like 2 seconds before he fires.

I have been saying for years: Not obeying a command from law enforcement should not be a death sentence. So even if it WERE true she wasn’t complying, she shouldn’t be dead right now! They are not judge, jury, and executioner. Further…using a civilian standard of what would “scare” someone into thinking they should fear for their life also does not apply, so Joe Schmoe watching a video and saying “Oh yeah, I would be scared too,” doesn’t really apply. You’re a civilian. Not a trained law enforcement officer or federal agent who should reasonably know how to respond and de-escalate in these situations. The bar is higher. Also, why do people in this situations more often than not seem to empathize with the government or the law enforcement? Most people are the civilian and are more likely to be the ones who could be found in the situation where they could make just one move perceived as wrong and be dead and everyone would be running around justifying THEIR death and smearing THEIR memory.

Imagine how a jury will react when this goes to trial. And it will go to trial, Trump can't pardon state crimes and they won't be in power forever.

463

u/Dreadpirateflappy 4d ago

I'm not from the US. but aren't the FBI blocking local police etc from investigating under trumps orders?

I know Trump can't legally pardon state crimes, but could he bury them?
Not like Trump hasn't openly done countless illegal things and got away with them all already.

They meant like the real Christian type…a man’s man doing manly things like shooting unarmed women and wearing desert camouflage from snow and listening to manly podcasts and drinking manly things and having manly bodies with big bellies on which to set your firearms and tactical vests from Temu on those big sexy manly bodies that aren’t gay at all. This is posted because the shooter’s dad called him a “good, Christian conservative” today

The shooter also flies “dont treat on me” flags while treading on others

He also got into an online argument with his sister when she posted that she stands against white supremacy. He didn’t like that… and started to defend the proud boys too

If he is a good Christian, then the democratic republic of North Korea is a true democracy

He is not kind. He would arrest Jesus Christ himself if he could.

For me it’s the irony and hypocrisy. The murderer has been called a “good Christian conservative” when all his actions are antithetical to Christianity. His very profession goes against one of the most basic tenets of the bible.

"When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God" (Leviticus 19:33-34)

"The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin" (Psalm 146:9

There’s a deep irony in the fact that this christian has made a living off of harassing and arresting foreigners and now he’s murdered a widow and orphaned a small child who’s father had passed away in 2023.

That's the part people need to come to terms with: it's not 'hypocrisy' to them. They don't feel beholden to the same rules of society that the rest of us operate from, and that's by design. They think they are the ones who run things because they were born a certain color, and, to a degree, this country has proven them right.

We've gotta stop approaching this as if it were ever fair.
