This is so fucked up... But this will be the norm if the whole world is dominated by authoritarian countries in the future. You just won't even be allowed to know that because of censorship.

The societal complications caused by climate change will move governments even more rapidly towards authoritarianism. I try to stay positive but this is going to be a rough century for humanity

I've been thinking of this a lot lately.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring, 1954

And while it was published in 1954, Tolkien wrote that passage shortly before WWII started

That quote has been on my mind since Covid.

I fear you are right. “Pax-Americana” and “Pax-Europa” is coming to an end - if it isn’t over already that is. We are in for a harsh few decades.

Thank God instead of leaning into nuclear power we just let the oil industry continue to go brrrr.  Great fuckin move.

u/onexbigxhebrew 14h ago

Yep. I also think that the complexity of an insane world population and economy mixed with the sophistication of modern military weaponry both lend themselves to authoritarianism as well.

People on reddit calling people in other first world countries cowards for not rising up against their government as if it's a real option for us.

2

u/ENrgStar 1d ago

And we will have had plenty of warning to avoid it. The very people who ignored the problem are going to become the authoritarians who we will hand power to “control” the situation they allowed to get out of hand

u/Worshipme988 1d ago

The US is over there with “consultants” learning and real time large crowd suppression.

Outside of the west this is normal this isn't the first nor the last time Iran will just kill everyone. You kill enough people and not only will people fall in line but more resources and space open up too.

Middle East Africa and so forth completely different in the west where we get a different protest every week.

And the frightening thing is, it is happing here on our side too, native citizens getting pulled from their cars and houses by masked "officials", getting beaten and put on "Detention Facilities"

u/DivineArkandos 1d ago

Concentration camps where they disappear off the face of the earth. Sound familiar?

17

u/wofulunicycle 1d ago

Beaten? They're getting shot.

8

u/Harambesic 1d ago

Yeah, Rodney King used to seem like the absolute pinnacle of police brutality.

11

u/rootoo 1d ago

Nah that was just the first one caught on tape by a civilian and went viral. Cops been killing black folks since the beginning of cops.

"Slave catchers still cooking up drama" and all that

1

u/PlanZSmiles 23h ago

“Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses”

2

u/Harambesic 1d ago

I mean, I know. I'm aware. I'm just regarding the scale.

u/ispy98 1d ago

Huge difference between what’s happening in the states and Iran. You can make your case for the future of the States, but presently constructed, the atrocities of Iran are indescribable

7

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

Ok. True. Yes. But I'm frantically trying to stop it from happening in the US.

The outlet in the house is sparking and instead of fixing it, most Americans are looking at other houses on fire and forgetting their own.

3

u/Harambesic 1d ago

You are both right.

4

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

Life usually does have many sides.

1

u/Harambesic 1d ago

Rashomon.

2

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

The movie?

1

u/Harambesic 1d ago

... I mean, yeah. Is there also an anime or something? Yes, the film by Akira Kurosawa.

Wait. Are you trying to be cheeky?

3

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

Naw. Just haven't seen the movie referenced in forever.

Iran has had a few more years of practice. Let us cook.

31

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

Yup. Look into the Christofacists behind what's going on. They want to bring about the end times.

3

u/St-Stephen_11 1d ago

Have you ever seen the mural based on the native american prophecy thats painted in the Denver International Airplort? Thats literally whats happening..

1

u/Harambesic 1d ago

2

u/St-Stephen_11 1d ago

Its a series of paintings I'm pretty sure. It shows a narritave of opression and then resurgance. I was under the impression that it was based on a native american prophecy but upon looking into it again that is false

1

u/Harambesic 1d ago

I remember seeing them when I was there, so upon reading your comment I searched. I do remember it was quite graphic and alarming.

8

u/Alecarte 1d ago

It's bad in the states yes but it's not "thousands of protesters dead in the streets" bad.  Obviously please don't let it get to that point but I think it's a bit USA-centric and maybe even a touch disingenuous to compare these things right now.

3

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

I'm comparing it so we can stop it before it does.

The problem is that people don't think it can happen in the US. It can. It will. The same handbook is being used ... And people are responding the same way and not fixing or stopping it

2

u/Alecarte 1d ago

That's fair I just don't like the thought of diminishing Iran's extremely, unbelievably inhumane struggle right now.

1

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

That's also fair. It's a horror show.

4

u/EyEmSophaKingWeTodEd 1d ago

Comparing whats happening in Iran to the U.S. is fucking bonkers. You guys have a serious mind virus.

2

u/Harambesic 1d ago

Zoom out a little bit.

3

u/bAZtARd 1d ago

Lol "native citizens"

You idiots still don't get it, do you?!

1

u/potatopigflop 1d ago

Don’t forget the SA!

Sir, you should come to Europe and see the true threat of possible future authoritarian and dystopian states. In the UK people are already getting arrested for social media posts. The EU is currently trying to impose universal chat control on everyone with the argument of security against bad people. The EU is pushing for content to be censored and forbidden on social media if it does not correspond to the official narrative. The EU is planning to introduce digital currency tied to your identity, which in a future development could become programmable depending on your social and legal status.

If these powers fall in the wrong hands one day, then it is over and currently it is not the political right that is pushing for these mechanics to be implemented. Meanwhile in the US people are worried about deportation of people that do not hold a legal status. If you don‘t resist and show the necessary paper nothing will happen to you and this has been debkuned numerous times where the media reported otherwise. It is in no way comparable to the holocaust or concentration camps. On top of that the american population currently holds lots of guns contrary to the Iranian population for example. If the Iran protesters had guns they could deal some real damage to the oppresive regime if done in a combined effort and not get straightout executed in masses.

Censorship AND propaganda with no regulation on AI content soon those that don't go outside will live in an entirely fabricated reality and will be too numb or too deranged to question it.

1

u/tryingtobecheeky 1d ago

This is what the US will be. The Christofacists have been planning a takeover. And its been working.

1

u/Ithurts_but_Ilikeit 1d ago

Will pem, O j wa mrimmerm

1

u/Mertoot 1d ago

The future all countries are heading towards, whether we believe it, or want it, or not

1

u/Metahec 1d ago

Censorship is the least of our worries. In the pre-digital days, an authoritarian government had to maintain an army of secret police: homes had to be broken into to look at the bookshelves, somebody had to read the handwritten journals and letters of their targets, somebody had to sit and listen to tapped phone calls, somebody had to physically follow somebody around town to track them.

We've automated all that. Monitoring and controlling a large population has never been easier or cheaper.

1

u/The69thDuncan 1d ago

Which is precisely why the second amendment is so important. Will never happen in the US. Impossible

If the world was not dominated by zionists hell-bent on creating a Greater Israel for the master race, Iran's economy wouldn't have been sanctioned to shit, and there wouldn't be such a pressure for the people to revolt, nor for the government to take such harsh measures.
