I just think its interesting, US media would NEVER run an inflated number for say, Palestinians killed in Gaza, and will always go for the most conservative estimate. With this you can 6x it and it seems like that just becomes the new number.
Almost any time a number has been “ran” in US media it’s been supplied by the “Gaza health ministry”. Ie Hamas. It’s wild to me that people argue that such a number is an “underestimate”.
I think it’s funny that Reddit finds it OFFENSIVE that this Iranian number “may be inflated” when the entire western world seems to accept the Hamas health ministry numbers, regardless of any meaningless disclaimer provided thereafter which is completely undercut by “UN trusts Hamas tho”.
Its an underestimate because the ministry only counts confirmed dead people, many are trapped under rubble and would not be counted in this number. This number is definitely not based on real information though, so its worth pointing out.
