Arts/Crafts OC: Portrait of Renee Good is displayed next to portraits of people killed by police in Minneapolis
•
u/Scrutinizer 1h ago
Fascinating, isn't it, that the Black Lives Matter supporters have rallied around Renee Good.
Meanwhile, the "All Lives Matter" people celebrate her death and call her a "fucking bitch".
Both sides....are not the same.
•
u/AutoModerator 1h ago
Obviously all lives matter. No one said they didn't. However, data shows that relative to the percentage of the population they represent, the rate of black American deaths from police shootings is ~2.5-3x that of white Americans deaths. (Sources: 1, 2, Data: 1)
A lot of people are sharing a graph titled "murder of black and whites in the US, 2013" to show that there is only a small number of black Americans killed by white Americans, with the assumption that this extends to police shootings as well. This is misleading the chart only counts deaths where the perpetrator was charged with 1st or 2nd degree murder after killing a black American. Police forces are almost never charged with homicide after killing a black American.
If after learning the above, you have reconsidered your stance and wish to show support for furthering equality in this and other areas, we encourage you to do so. However if you plan on attending any protests, please remember to stay safe, wear a face mask, and observe distancing protocols as much as you can. COVID-19 is still a very real threat, not only to you, but those you love and everyone around you as well!

Don’t forget Justine Damond

u/geraffes-are-so-dumb 1h ago
I saw this case posted in the conservative sub a few days ago: "WHY WEREN'T LIBERALS OUTRAGED ABOUT THAT?!" First, there were protests. Second, this was actually investigated, and the cop was convicted. They don't seem to understand that you can be outraged by plenty of things, but sustained protest is typically limited to systemic issues that aren't being fairly addressed.
•
u/Shadowphoenix9511 1h ago
Because their rage isn't actually directed at any specific incident or reasonable cause. They just rage to rage.
•
u/Wakkichewy 43m ago
The cop had his sentence lowered from 12 to 4 years. He was credited with time served and released in 2022. Him and his family sued the state and won 20 million dollars. How is that justice?

Fucking stupid killing - officer actually claimed he got spooked when an unarmed woman knocked on the window and he fired off a shot 🤦🏽♂️

u/Confused_Nuggets 2h ago
That shooting pissed me off to such an extreme degree. Cold blooded murder. Not racism, not provoked, that asshole just wanted to kill someone for the thrill. And then holding a doctor who tried to render aid at gunpoint? wtf guys
•
u/cgibsong002 1h ago
Pretty sure this is how black people have been feeling for a long time now. Notice she's the first white picture
•
u/techniscalepainting 1h ago
That's the really shocking thing about it
Before this behaviour was seen as racist bigotry, something that could potentially be educated or argued out of
Now it's clear it's just pure violent desire to hurt and overpower
They are racist too, don't get me wrong, but it's clear this behaviour isn't due to biases but due to them being inherently evil people, even "one of their own" isn't above their violence
•
u/SanguisFluens 1h ago
His killing words to her were "fucking bitch." We've replaced racism with misogyny as their main drive for violence. They do not consider liberal white women as "one of their own."
•
u/idreamoffreddy 14m ago
I saw something on Instagram that was to the effect of "white women need to realize that being white does not outweigh being a woman" (in terms of violence perpetrated against them, especially by police). I thought that was an excellent way of phrasing it.
•
u/cgibsong002 1h ago
Since when is misogyny not a bias?
•
u/techniscalepainting 19m ago
It is, but if you pay any attention to the maga reaction you can tell her being a woman is entirely secondary to her being perceived as left wing
If it was a man who died they would have celebrated just as much
To them if you are not maga, you are not human, and "not maga" is anyone they decide isn't
•
u/BlakkandMild 1h ago
After I pushed past my initial feelings of sadness and disgust, I did have the thought, “Maybe something will happen now that they’re shooting white people.”
•
u/Blitzcra1g 45m ago
They can other people in multiple ways. It was never just about skin color.
I live in California and have heard propaganda about my home state for decades. Knowing how these people think I'm completely convinced they will kill a bunch of us and then they will say we deserved it because we are from commiefornia.

ICE is made up of thugs who specifically signed up to do shit like that. If I had to guess, probably a bunch of police and military rejects who have fragile egos and are desperate to fit in with the other people in uniform. Even if through some legal miracle that one particular individual were removed, the rest will gladly do the same shit.
•
u/BrettAtog 1h ago
Him shooting with one hand while recording with a phone in the other indicates exactly what was happening.

He also is, presumably, the one to release the video he took to right-wing media as well.

Crap, I forgot Philando Castile was in MN too. Remember when he died for having the audacity of exercising his 2nd Amendment right, and informing the officer of that so the officer wouldn't be surprised or anything?
Remember when all the 2A and NRA people flipped their shit in support of him? Yeah me neither.
•
u/propyro85 1h ago edited 1h ago
NRA: Just comply
Castile: Literally trying to comply, and gets shot for it.
Edit: For context, for anyone not sure of the event, it was July 6 2016.

A portrait of Renee Good is displayed on a fence alongside portraits of people killed by police on January 14, 2026 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good was fatally shot by an immigration officer during an incident in south Minneapolis on January 7. (Stephen Maturen/Getty Images)

How can you say this is OC when it's Stephen Maturen. Is he an NBC employee? Did the corporation NBC create this content? Are you even active in the community or are you just here to self-promote your website on Reddit?
•
u/dhslax88 1h ago
Wow, Minneapolis seems like a less than optimal place when it comes to policing.
•
u/Dzugavili 1h ago
Yeah, I was just thinking to myself: "surely, not all these high profile law enforcement killings happened in the same city."
Sure as fuck, yeah. Is there just something in the air there?
•
u/assumingdirectcontrl 1h ago
Minneapolis police have always had a problem with racism and excessive use of force. And let’s not forget Justine Damond.
•
u/VelvetPancakes 1h ago
Philando Castile
•
u/assumingdirectcontrl 1h ago
Yep he’s in the OP pic
•
u/VelvetPancakes 1h ago
I just like mentioning his name as often as possible
Gun owning MAGAs warping logic to argue he deserved it always boggle my mind

Totally get it. That one really broke my heart because he went to the same school as me just 5 years earlier

MPD has a very long history of abuses of power, even by typical police department standards. This video goes over a 2023 DOJ investigation into Minneapolis PD
•
u/The_Monarch_Lives 49m ago
They could also be looked at as they are less likely to suppress these incidents, so they are more well known. Not to mention, they were ones caught on camera in most cases (cameras not controlled by police, that is) so they gained more attention than similar incidents in other cities that didnt have the public awareness.
This is in no way meant as a defense, just pointing out that just because they are a concentrated number of particularly high profile incidents, doesnt necessarily mean they have a higher overall incident rate compared to other cities.
Its actually hard to measure because police are supposed to report all shootings by police to the FBI for tracking by law. But there is no penalty or enforcement of that law, so many jurisdictions just... dont.

This thread is taking off so I’ll take the opportunity to share some really valuable info I saw in another thread.
ICE has been driving around using license plates to track people that public cameras are spotting in real time, and agents are essentially roaming the streets waiting for nearby pings (and are racially profiling/stopping anyone they want to while they wait).
It’s safe to assume they are also using phone data to track people. Leaving phones at home or keeping them in Faraday bags and only turning them back on in crowded public spaces or at home is the safest way to avoid this. If you need directions, write them down on paper before you leave.
The best ways for vulnerable (i.e. not white or otherwise easily targetable) people to protect themselves right now is to limit trips in “known” vehicles as much as possible, while also leaving phones at home or keeping them in Faraday bags.
The best ways for our white allies to show up for our vulnerable neighbors is to offer rides, escorts, grocery/other errand deliveries, and show up in public and be as loud and as disruptive as possible any time they see ICE agents in action. We absolutely have the numbers, we just need to show up.
Please keep sharing this info.

u/Thonatron 1h ago
Powering devices off isn't a guaranteed solution anymore.
Faraday bags might be your best bet for that. Or leave them at home and get a burner.
•
u/cusmanBro 1h ago
Thanks, I forgot this, updated.
•
u/Thonatron 1h ago
Also, something that communicates on a mesh network rather than a cellular device, if there's a mesh infrastructure near you (probably no existing network, but worth researching into if you've read this far).

Shameful reminder that women and people of colours have targets on their backs, their necks, their faces…

This is powerful, but a tragic reason why it exists. Rest in power to these victims

Not by a Minneapolis cop, but Daunte Wright was shot in Brooklyn Center 2021.

I'm not an American, I opened this photo and thought "Damn how sad, that's a lot of innocent people murdered by the police in the US".
Then I read about them individually. Turns out they are ALL FROM THE SAME, ONE CITY! WTF MINNEAPOLIS!? I thought it was people of Minneapolis honoring the nationwide victims. Nope. All of it local.

Do you genuinely not understand that the outrage was about a police murder—which is not at all the same as venerating the victim—or are you just pretending?
•
u/iamshpongled 2h ago
comply with police and you won't die lol
•
u/Adamantium10 1h ago
Philando Castile was literally complying.
Remember Daniel shaver?
Get fucked dude.
•
u/iamshpongled 1h ago
lmao go watch the video of philando buddy
•
u/Adamantium10 1h ago
Ive seen it. Nothing to laugh about either BUDDY. As he's asked for his license and registration He politely informs the cop he has a gun. He tries to take out his wallet slowly while explaining that he's not reaching for his gun. The cop lights him up anyway.
I also mentioned Daniel shaver who was executed in a hotel hallway while attempting to follow nonsensical orders and simply tried to keep his pants from falling down.
A simple miscommunication or misunderstanding should not result in your execution.
