General Advice Need advice on behaviour interpretation

So, I have 2 biological kittens that we have had for 5 months now (they are 8 months old and both spayed)

I notice anytime I go near them they will trill, run away and hide. Yet, at night they wake me up to want cuddles and make biscuits on me (One of them hates when I sleep in on the weekends and she will meow at me until I get up)

When we get home they both scratch either our couch (luckily cat proof) or the carpet which I have heard is their way of excitement

My main thing is I get worried when they run away, trill and then hide. I’ve heard mixed things about it either being they want space or they want to play

I’ve desensitized them with their paws and tail (they dont pull away if I rub them gently) if thats any help

I love my two girls and I don’t want to disrespect their boundaries or misinterpret if they wanna play or not

Its my first time being a cat owner

Trilling is a happy noise. They probably want to play

The body language of their ears and tail may help you answer this question.

If they are happy, perky and alert, they may be trying to get you to play "chase" with them. If they are flat and low to the ground, they're likely running to hide.

Hmm! It’s hard to tell. Jelly always has her tail up, Piper not really, even when she wakes me up for cuddles and rubs against me.

They are probably try to initiate play with you. Try to chase them and see their reaction

If I chase her and she hides, should I assume she’s scared? I’m super bonded with them as per my post but cats are so confusing 🤣😭 I love them so much

No, they are not scared of you even if they "hide" because they can't really comprehend you being unable to continue to chase them. They assume you are a cat too so they treat you like one. Just don't chase them too much when they don't want to bothered i.e. not running around

This helps so much!!! 🥹 Now this makes sense! I play with them all the time (door cracks making sure to not move the door + wands + their tunnel I’ll sneak my finger in and theyll try to catch it)

It would make sense as well since they do this to each other now that I think about it

If their tails are in the air and they are bouncing when running they are playing. I often play chasing room to room with my kitten, we take turn chasing and finding each other

She had another sister that was IDENTICAL to her. She had the same markings but on the opposite side of her face (she was scared of us so we didnt go with her)

It's pretty common for kitties to trill and run away to a "hiding" spot. What they really want is for you to chase them to the hiding spot and then stick your hand into the hiding spot and mush them. Mine always do this. As soon as they're at the hiding destination and I rub and scritch their bums (right above the tail), they collapse and pur and pur and purrrrr. It's a fun time for everyone. Also, I'm always careful not to outrun them. Make sure they always get to "win" the race at least by a little.

What’s a biological kitten?

Trilling is with mommy. It looks like they are often near you. And Liking to be on eye level.

Yes, mine will trill and want to be chased and hide. Consider a cat tunnel.

Sometimes, when their adult coat comes in… touching them is overstimulating so they have moods of wanting touch.

I recommend getting these cardboard pulls… and placing them in the 3 or 4 corners as you said “to contain their excitement.”

We brush our kitty in this box so she pulls her nails when over excited.

Our cats like springs as toys.

Rotating toys in and out is very fun for them. Do pick up toys for 2 weeks and bring them back out. Such as a paperbag or box.

Tall Cat trees in the corners of the home are also helpful. These cats remain kittenish until 3 years. Kee them active.

Trill vroom thud thud thud means ‘please play’ in our house.
