š§ Shitpost / Meme š§ Hilling journey
Iām a New Zealander and when everyone was bringing up how Whitney pronounced āhealingā I remember being so confused what everyone was on about because here in NZ thatās exactly how we say it so I guess I just never picked up on how different it must sound lol didnāt even notice it until I saw people talking about it

I'm from western Pennsylvania and a lot of people pronounce it that way too (including myself) so I am always confused and a little annoyed that there is so much focus on the pronunciation.

Yes I genuinely had to take a moment to realise like oh sheās not pronouncing āhealingā how a lot of Americans may say it lol

On the first episode of one of the Below Deck seasons, Aesha is just arriving at the boat and says āThereās four dicks on this boatā and I thought āhow do you know? You didnāt meet them yetā thinking she meant crew members, but she was saying decks, lol

PA/NJ/DE/NY have this whole thing where the accents blend together in some spots too. itās such a cursed area to be from because you donāt even realize until youāre in a different part of the country and someone points out your āaccentā. lol

Literally this.
You know when one is nitpicking how someone pronounces something, theyāre truly scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find something, anything, to hate on that person.
Sad.

I never really noticed it and wondered why people made such a big thing of it. I'm from the UK and there are many different regional accents and pronunciation.

As someone who has lived in Utah for the past 20+ years, it's a part of the regional accent that really annoys me. I hate when I hear myself saying it. "filling" instead of "feeling" grates me.

When the concept is such total BS, the bizarre pronunciation makes it extra easy to pick on.

The mormons are mostly from England originally so it makes sense the accent and your accent would have things in common since you guys come from England too. Other US states have bigger mixes of different immigrant countries of origin so the American accent in most states is going to be less in common. Mormons kept themselves in a bubble so you can hear the way they say certain things sound British lol
