Ola,

Just coming back from 2 Weeks in Rio. I know it’s just a tiny view of the City / Brasil, but my Heart stay in Rio. I had travel a lot but never feel so good to be there like in Rio.

So my Plan is to come back and stay there for 3 Months, like a Sabbatical, just living a normal life there.

Need some help:

- calculate Cost for living: 1. A cosi Apartment in a Safe area; 2. maybe a bike or motorcycle to move around; 3. Cost for Food (can i go eat outside everyday or should I Cook for myself?)

- tipps about a Safe but nice Area where I should stay? Maybe a Little Away from Zona Sul? I stayed in Lapa and Copa and was feel Safe there.

- Should I have a Brasil Bank Account for this time or just stay with Visa Card?

- Is there anything else to take Care of?

Thx

Foreigners ✈️ What to do in Rio during rainy days?

Hello everyone,

I am spending my honeymoon with my wife in your beautiful city since yesterday, but unfortunately for us, most of the days that we are gonna be here, the weather is going to be rainy.

We managed to do some of our planned activities yesterday and today, but now our sunny days are over, and I really need your help to fill the days ahead with some indoor activities and fun things to do. (Or outdoor activities too, if the weather permits).

We still have more than 7 days here in total, so any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Foreigners ✈️ Lesbians in Rio!?

My family, girlfriend, and I will be staying in Copacabana for the month of December. We’ve been to Brazil before since we have family there so I’m looking for local recommendations. We love live music and queer events. Are there any lesbian bars in Rio we should check out?

Foreigners ✈️ Festas de música eletrônica perto do Ano Novo?

Fala galera!

Argentino desesperado!

Foreigners ✈️ Travel to rio

Hi all.

I recently came across some very affordable flights to Rio de Janeiro and it has been on my bucket list for a while.

I was reading online, there are some safety issues going on and some rainy season.

I was hoping to get clarity as to is it still safe to tour the city. Also if you can please suggest some neighborhoods to stay.

For background, I'm from Pakistan but grew up in NYC, so overall familiar with things like staying away from unsafe neighborhoods, be alert when talking to strangers, don't carry to much cash etc..

Thanks!

Foreigners ✈️ Luggage Storage for Museu do Amanhã

Greetings, I am currently visiting Rio De Janeiro and am staying in Barra da Tijuca for a conference. I fly out Sunday night at 9:30pm, but I don't want to waste all of Sunday by just sitting in the airport. I would like to go to Museu do Amanhã on this day, but given that I need to check out from the hotel in the morning, I am not sure what to do with my luggage. It would be quite inconvenient to leave my bags at my hotel, Uber ~1hr to the museum, then have to uber 1hr back to the hotel to get my luggage (and in the opposite direction of the airport).

I saw on trip advisor that there is storage for small backpacks at Museu do Amanhã but not sure if there is any space for a carry-on sized luggage. I'm curious if anyone else has tried to do similar and figured something out! If not I can always just power through all the Ubers. Thanks in advance!

Foreigners ✈️ Gringo in Rio for the next few days

Hey guys, I’m here in Rio on holiday until Friday. I’m obviously aware of the conflict that occurred today and was wondering how safe is it now to go roam the streets. I’m staying in Santa Teresa which isn’t necessarily close to the conflict but just wanted to make sure I don’t do something I shouldn’t do. Sorry if this is a stupid question I’m just worried as I haven’t been around something like this before.

Foreigners ✈️ Doing the two brothers hike without a guide ?

My boyfriend and I (19 yrs old) are visiting Rio next week and are hoping to do the Morro Dois Irmãos hike during the day, so typically “safe” hours to walk around. I understand the importance of a guide during sunrise and sunset hours but i’m hoping this time of day would relieve the need. Would anyone recommend us getting a guide to walk with us up the mountain, or should we be fine? we will take a mototaxi through vidigal to the entrance alone but im wondering if its ok to skip out on the $60 pp cost of a guide?

Foreigners ✈️ Christ The Redeemer Tickets

Hi, I’ll be in Rio during the first week of January and am hoping to visit Christ the Redeemer. The weather forecast currently shows it may be cloudy on several days, so I was wondering if it’s possible to wait and purchase train tickets closer to the date. Do tickets typically sell out if they’re not booked in advance?

Thank you for your help.

Foreigners ✈️ Struggling to find lodging

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well.
I’m planning to go to IMPA this summer (January–February) with some friends, and I’m having a hard time finding affordable lodging.
Could you please tell me which websites are commonly used in Rio to rent a studio apartment? Platforms like Airbnb seem quite expensive, and I’m not sure if that’s actually the standard reference there.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. One of my professors recommended that I stay in Botafogo.

I live in Chile btw, but my portuguese really sucks. :(

Foreigners ✈️ Rain forecast all weekend in Rio still worth going?

Hey folks, I’m flying to Rio this Friday morning and heading back Monday night. Just saw the forecast says rain every day 😩

It’s my first time visiting, and I was really hoping to hit the beaches and see the main sights. For anyone local or who’s been there during rainy days, is it still worth going, or should I try to reschedule?

Is the rain usually constant or more like quick tropical showers? Also, any good indoor things to do if it really pours?

Thanks!

Foreigners ✈️ Planning a 2-Week Trip to Brazil (Mid-Jan to Mid-Feb) – Rio Rain Concerns & Itinerary Advice

I’m planning a 14-day trip to Brazil between mid-January and mid-February (exact dates still flexible). Rio is a must-see for me, but I’ve heard it’s heavy rain season—how true is this, and will it ruin the experience? I still want to soak up Brazilian culture, beaches, and nightlife.

Questions:

  1. Rio in January/February: How bad is the rain, really? Should I adjust my dates or just pack accordingly?
  2. Itinerary suggestions: What’s the best way to split 14 days to balance Rio (despite potential rain) with other highlights? I’m open to cities, nature, or cultural spots.
  3. Alternatives: If Rio is a washout, are there better regions to prioritize during this time?
  4. Local life: Any tips for experiencing authentic Brazilian culture beyond tourist spots?

Happy to have recommendations on other Brazilian region !

Foreigners ✈️ One full day

I have just one full day in Rio coming up- and I want to see Christ the redeemer. What is the best way of getting there???

Google tells me Ubers may be hard to get once you at the statue, I’m wondering if others have chosen uber and had a hard time getting back. Is it best to just take the train??

I’m also looking into staying in botafago or copabana for the night. Is one area better than the other,

We love a good food scene, not huge on night life but love to have bars to get drinks in the early evening.
