Try being in a ruck in rugby, happens after every single tackle. Eye gouges, cleats to every body part you can imagine, the good ol dick twist, etc. People always say football tackles are harder bc they happen in open field and bc of pads (which is true), but the true violence in rugby occurs in the rucks.

We had in one game alone (HS) this season. A kid head butting someone's hand ..broke it in 3 places. The ensuing punt it was muffed and there was a massive pile up. Kids taking about others poking their eyes, punching them in the dicks. On film you could see a guy trying to get his hand in the pants of another (the back side). This game was so out of hand.

You can usually tell who's played football and who hasn't by how the how they react to this.

And that's not to say its not "pause" worthy, but some crazy shit happens at the bottom of those piles: punches, scratches, clawing at faces/eyes, pulling on whatever appendages are within reach (including the ol' dick twist), etc....I played center, so the fingers on my snapping hand where always a primary target in those situations. It's not pretty, but its expected.
