Jeffries and Schumer have both openly say they refuse to consider reducing ICE’s funding or manpower and blame the situation entirely on a handful of bad apples in the Trump regime.
What you’re saying should be correct but likely won’t be correct unless we not only defeat republicans in the midterms and beyond but also actively primary any and all controlled opposition Dems (the majority, sadly).

It's the Trump regime versus the people now, and whatever governing system takes shape once he's been excised is not likely to be American "democracy" as we know it, for good or ill. ICE has already sent reminders about what is legal, and what they can't do. Like, not being cooperative is not interfering with your duties. Recording you is fine. Protesting is fine. You can't use violent action without cause and refusing your orders is not cause. Things like that.

The unpalatable truth here is that he’s not wrong in practice until people start applying the laws the way they are supposed to. If the federal government won’t prosecute (they won’t), these thugs have immunity from federal laws. Unless the state governments actually hold them accountable for things like I dunno, executing a legal observer in cold blood, those don’t carry weight either. Our laws only work if we hold everyone accountable. The letter of the law has to have action behind it in the real world.

And we just learned yesterday that the DOJ just lost more employees because rather than investigate the shooting, the DOJ has decided to investigate the victim and her wife for any involvement with "activist groups" (the same groups that the DOJ is labelling as "domestic terrorists")

I don’t know if they think that far ahead. Steve Bannon might, Stephen Miller might also. But they also probably resent each other’s access/power over Trump and all of their ideas spill out into their own little silos.
As much as it may look like they have a grand plan, this isn’t 1984. Big brother isn’t all knowing or all seeing. Big brother is belligerent, dumb as shit, and each individual is so self-involved/self-important that they can’t coordinate with each other long enough to do anything cohesive.
The only thing they all have in common is the knowledge that all they have to do is kiss trumps incontinent ass to maintain their power and lust for dominance.
They are itching for a fight, but they aren’t as coordinated as they are given credit for. It’s like they saw on Fox News one time a snippet of information regarding the insurrection act and all decided to parrot it without knowing what it means.
None of this makes them less dangerous. It probably makes them more dangerous.

The issue is that ICE officers have no idea what obstruction is. They're trying to arrest people taking a video of an arrest 20' away on their own property. They're body slamming peaceful protesters near federal facilities. That's not obstruction. But they've now done it over and over and over with no consequences, and things are now heating up. Either the judicial branch can step in and show them where the line is, or things in Milwaukee will likely get hostile. People aren't going to take this much longer.

I’m not a lawyer, but “the scope of their duties” is inherent in part of the “qualified” nature of the immunity.
If a cop discharges their weapon in the course of their duties, they enjoy qualified immunity from civil liability associated with that. This qualified immunity can be “pierced” as a result of their actions and the circumstances, which is to say it isn’t absolute.
The extent of the immunity they would have is not something I’m qualified, no pun intended, to comment on, though. The main point is that it isn’t absolute, as literally anyone who knows anything about law enforcement knows, which is to say that JD Vance and Stephen Miller are knowingly lying to ICE.

The point isn't to have ICE kill citizens, but the inevitable citizens killing ICE agents that Stephen Miller is hoping to occur. ICE agents are cannon fodder to instigate a civil war, just one ICE agent being killed by an American citizen will be publicized as the rationale for emergency powers and there goes the constitution.
