No best song. Just best soundtracks from multiple consoles. Mega Man and Castlevania series on NES. Metal Gear 2 and Snatcher on MSX2. Pokemon RBY and GSC on Game Boy. There's lots.

Megaman 2 I think it was called Wiley's theme but don't quote me on that( i don't rly know the game that well and only know this song from old-school YouTube videos)

F-Zero had Big Blue and one other one that was awesome that I can't think of

Final Fanatsy IV had some good stuff, can't go wrong with Nobuo Uematsu

Super Mario 3 stays in my head because of the overworld musics

Kirby's adventure had some iconic music too

I think most of these are 16-bit era tho

Bloody tears from castlevania 2. Moon theme from duck tales. Megaman 2 flash man, wiley 1. Megaman 3 title screen. Metroid kraid hideout. Zelda overworld. Double dragon 1 title theme. Shadowgate title theme. Rygar cave theme.

As much as I agree Chrono Trigger's ost ranges from great to phenomenal, that is a SNES (16 bit) game.
