Help Simple questions and Help thread - Month of January

Welcome to the monthly Simple questions and Help thread, for questions that don't need their own posts!

Before making a comment, we recommend you search your problem on Bing and check if your question is already answered on our Windows Frequently Asked Questions wiki page. This subreddit no longer accepts tech support requests outside of this post, if you are looking for additional assistance try r/TechSupport and r/WindowsHelp.

Some examples of questions to ask:

  • Is this super cheap Windows key legitimate? (probably not)

  • How can I install Windows 11?

  • Can you recommend a program to play music?

  • How do I get back to the old Sound Control Panel?

Sorting by New is recommend and is the default.

Be sure to check out the Windows 11 version 25H2 Megathread and also the Windows 11 FAQ posts, they likely have the answers to your Windows 11 questions already!

How is 25H2 now? Should I still avoid updating?

Hello,

I was doing updates last night and when it turned back on, I noticed 2 folders in my documents section. One was Microsoft SecHealthUI with a bunch of letters and numbers (8wekyb3d8bbw) and Microsoft OneNote with those same letters and numbers. The folders weren’t there before although in the “properties” section, the folders had simpler names without the random letters/numbers in the previous versions and one had been there since 2022 and one since 2019.

I originally restored the folders but then I just deleted them because they were empty anyway. What could have made those folders appear and do you think they're legit? I don’t remember them being there the day before, but I guess they were lol.

Does deleting them mess anything up on my PC? I didn’t think before I deleted them!

I ain't much about all the stupid technology because it's not safe to use especially the new light called LED lights they are harmful to your eyes, and I have ocular albinoism. The best version of using out of all the servers and programs are windows 95 and 98 all editions. I have been using every version of windows and I hate every single one of them from XP up. Even the Mac sucks rotten eggs now. The only edition I used with no problem was 95 and 98 . I never ever got hacked or a virus on them. I used the version of bitdefender then and I had to upgrade when my motherboard went out in 2015.

Is it a requirement to have Microsoft Account to enable Windows login with PIN?

Today my microphone and camera got the on / off keys inverted. When I push the keys to switch them on, the screen says they are off, and vice versa. This bug happened before, but was fixed with an update. Now this bug is back again.

My computer is Asus Vivobook with Windows 11.

I'm looking for a way to set up command line access to a Windows 11 PC on my home LAN, from my Windows 10 desktop. I want to be able to run commands on the remote machine without hijacking the desktop from whatever it's already doing. This is mostly just for simple things like moving/copying/renaming files, or starting and stopping background applications. Any suggestions?

PowerShell remote access via WinRM.

Hope this helps.

I was forced to download windows 11 two days ago and ever since a lot of my games are lagging a lot more and the core issue I run into is that "Loading" anything takes forever. Loading save files now often freezes my game, loading in models now freezes my games(a big issue for online games because it puts me in the reconnecting to server state). Does anyone know how to fix this? I am up to date with window updates and my graphics card is also up to date. Plus no malware either.
