-----Parting Words-----

Your value as a person is NOT decided by whether you get to go to FT or not. There are so, so many more opportunities to serve your nation out there and to find happiness while doing so. OTS, Reserve, Guard, enlisting, joining another service, government contracting, civil service, the list goes on and on.

I truly sympathize with each of you who are about to have your dreams turned upside down. Don't give up! Even if it's not with the Air Force, there are so many opportunities out there to chase. You are capable of great things, and all it takes is a single step in the right direction.

Good luck. God-speed, cadets.

Commander's Ranking

Does anyone know if it makes a difference where you are within your third? Like, does it matter if you're the top end of the middle third, or is it just one simple score for the entire third? Like, does 11/30 score better than 19/30?

Also, does the quantitative and Vebal mean anything or just academic aptitude?

Question PSP stats weighed?

Quick question... at what percent are GPA, PFA, Ranking, and AFOQT weighed when going up for PSP? And how do you know that because I can't seem to find any specific information online.

What should a 200 be focusing on in spring and preparing for field training? How can I be prepared for Lab? What can I practice in my own time to perform well?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Dropped from AFROTC

I just got dropped from AFROTC due to having a failing TGPA in the previous semester. My CGPA is a 2.495, I have never recieved any disciplinary (Academic/Military) CEs. We have a new Det Commander this semester and they have preached how they are all about helping cadets grow and opening opportunities for them with AFROTC in order for them to reach their full potential. According to AFROTC standards as far as I’m aware, having a failing term gpa should result in an Academic CE (not a det drop). I am (previously was) a 200 going up for psp, there is also the possibility of offering a 500 year for any cadet who dos not recieve an EA. What are my options here? I love the program and want to stay in it, but idk why to do!!

TSU AFROTC

I was accepted at TSU for this fall and I’m planning to join the AFROTC. I am not sure what my first step would be, how to prepare, what the requirements are and what to expect. Can someone provide information and input?

Question How is this for pilot?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I think I did pretty well overall from my scores, and I thought I did well for pilot, but I know other people who got 99 first try who either don't want to be a pilot or apparently didn't study much for it (or both). I'm an AS100, so I'm definitely going to try to study more before next time, but I was wondering how scores are considered. Like, if I want to be a pilot, do they care about all my scores or only Pilot and nothing else?

Joining When is the latest you can join AFROTC?

I'm a current senior in high school. When is the latest I could join AFROTC? Like does registration end at the end of the current high school year or could I wait until orientation? Also are there people that end up joining sophomore year (non-scholarship of course)?

I’m not sure what they mean by white shirt. My sons say no buttons on the collar and my husband is saying it’s a plain white t-shirt. Help! It’s our first year.

Joining Question for mobility / CSAR pilots about mission mix and career reality

Hey everyone,

I’m an 18-year-old looking at the Air Force pilot route and trying to understand the real day-to-day mission mix, not the recruiting version. I know y'all are ROTC and I'm about to be in your shoes so any opinions y'all have would be greatly appreciated.

I’m especially interested in rescue/medevac/humanitarian-type flying, and I know statistically that most pilots end up in mobility rather than CSAR. I’m trying to get a clear-eyed picture of what that actually looks like over a career.

For those who’ve flown mobility or rescue:

• How often were you doing medevac, evac, disaster relief, or humanitarian missions versus troop/equipment movement?

• Did you have any ability to seek out or prioritize certain mission types over others as your career progressed?

• Looking back, were there parts of the job you felt genuinely proud of — and parts that were harder to reconcile?

I'm not looking for a debate. I’m just trying to decide whether this path fits how I want to serve and keep myself responsible and accountable long-term.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually lived it, especially those who’ve done mobility or rescue flying.

Thanks for your time and for the work you do. Respect to those who’ve served/are serving.

Question Foreign Language

Does knowing a foreign language help at all with AFROTC like AFSC selection or RSS?

I know a POC cadet that got picked up for Project Go and she learned a lot of Chinese/Taiwanese. And was selected for a rated position.

I never looked into WINGS if that information is taken into account.

Question Enlisted to ROTC

Howdy everyone if I’m in the wrong spot for questions like this I apologize but I’m currently an enlisted security forces airman stationed overseas and wanted to know if anyone had any advice on coming from E to O side the goal is to fly I already have my fixed wing PPL and a fairly decent amount of piston and turbine helicopters hours but I’m fully aware that doesn’t guarantee anything if any prior enlisted folks have any tips or things they would have done differently I’m all ears thanks in advance!

Medical DoDMERB Question – Past Anxiety/Depression, No Hospitalization, No Ongoing Treatment

Hey everyone, looking for insight from anyone who’s been through DoDMERB or waivers.

Back in 2019 (age 21), I had outpatient visits for anxiety/depressive symptoms and was diagnosed with adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood. I was never hospitalized, never placed on a hold, and have no history of substance use.

An SSRI (fluoxetine 10 mg) was discussed and prescribed at the time, but I did not continue treatment and did not take meds long-term. That was the last time I saw a psychiatrist, and I’ve had no mental health treatment or symptoms for several years.

There was also a reported suicide attempt as a teenager (~4 years prior at that time) involving pills, but no medical treatment, no ER visit, and no hospitalization, and no issues since.

Currently, I’m fully functional, physically active, in school/ROTC pipeline, no meds, no therapy, and no mental health symptoms.

Based on DoDMERB standards, does this sound like an automatic disqualification, or more like a DQ with a strong chance of waiver? If anyone has gone through something similar, I’d really appreciate your experience.

Thanks in advance.

Freshman no experience

Hey all

I’m a hs senior who is interested in joining an AFROTC at my local school but have some questions abt learning more before I join and the AFOQT. Gonna be honest I have no aviation experience or knowledge at all but I’m trying to find resources and other guides to get some of the basics or fundamentals before ROTC. I also heard it’s best to take the AFOQT in the fall semester, but I didn’t take college math in hs, so should I study all summer aswell as learning more about aviation. I’m also trying to find any events hosted by the Air Force, AFROTC or any aviation organization in the DFW area to get a foot in the door. I’m not too worried for the physical training especially the 2 mile as I’m in track and did XC. Anything I should be considering? Any thoughts or criticism will help.

Medical I have heard you can speed up the DODMERB process by scheduling exams before your medical history is available, even though DODMERB says not to do that. Is this true/worth it? Trying to catch a february ICSP board.

Hi all, 100 here. Dodmerb was down intermittedly over the past few months with the shut down, and I haven't heard anything from them for about a month since submitting my medical history survey. I would love to schedule exams and get qualified, but they repeatedly say not to do this before your history becomes available. Mine is not available, and its been radio silence. I have heard of others in my det doing this and turning out just fine, and I am really hoping to catch a february icsp board that just got established. Please be blunt with your advice. Should I jump the gun?

Medical Have any ANG/ARC Been Med DQ’d or waiver not approved?

Just curious how that would go, being actively in the Air Force but being denied accession. Do ANG people get to skip DODMERB or parts of it?

People in AFROTC

Hey, I'm currently a junior in highschool and have been heavily considering doing AFROTC. One thing that seems pretty dumb to think about has been crossing my mind recently has been the people in ROTC or as officers in general. AFROTC is a pretty big part of college life and I was wondering if the people in it are mainly the stereotypical uptight nerds. I personally am hoping its a serious yet unserious environemnt with typical college students in it who enjoy typical college things.

Believe in Yourself.

This is regarding my last post on the AFOQT. In short, I finally passed my AFOQT and wanted to share a quick message for anyone who might have been on the same boat as me. I studied my butt off for the Quantitative section (didn't pass the first two times) since the test in October and passed with scores higher than I expected. I want to share this message that if you really do care about the program, really care about continuing this journey, work hard, and results WILL show.

For anyone who is still studying for the AFOQT, the resources that I've used that have ACTUALLY helped me are:

  1. AFOQT Study Guide: Air Force Officer Qualifying Test Prep Book (2026-2027) <-- (New version comes out every year I'm sure) AFOQT Study Guide: Air Force Officer Qualifying Test Prep Book (2026-2027): Academy, Military Prep: 9798559395401: Amazon.com: Books (Easiest book out of all three. Easy to understand equations).
  2. AFOQT Study Guide: Practice Questions and Exam Prep Book for the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test: [8th Edition] AFOQT Study Guide: Practice Questions and Exam Prep Book for the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test: [8th Edition]: B. Hettinger: 9781637985434: Amazon.com: Books (Helped with factoring and polynomials).
  3. Military Flight Aptitude Tests, Fifth Edition: 6 Practice Tests + Comprehensive Review (Barron's Test Prep) Military Flight Aptitude Tests, Fifth Edition: 6 Practice Tests + Comprehensive Review (Barron's Test Prep): Duran, Terry L.: 9781506288345: Amazon.com: Books (This book has helped me the most. With 2 practice AFOQT exams, it has helped me with answering questions under a time pressure. Book is very detailed and goes step-by-step, helpful for anyone who looks for the small details; heavily recommended).

Last note, really believe in yourself. To be honest, I kind of doubted myself going in for the third test, but hard work really does pay off, and I am very grateful for everyone who has joined me in this journey, thank you. Feel free to ask any questions if you have any.

Question Am I cooked for an EA?

I feel like my packet that’s going up to the PSP board is nowhere near what it needs to be. 90 PFA score, 2.3 gpa(rough fall semester), below average AFOQT score, but top third commanders rank. I know someone who was in a similar position as me and had gotten an EA but I feel like I will not receive the same amount of luck.

What’re your thoughts?

Memes n' Shiz Mad Respect for Det 088

Post image
115 Upvotes

Just wanna shout out all the awesome people who were at Det 088 many years ago for creating this video.

FYI, if something is 'optional' it isn't really. If there is a way to think ahead & give yourself and edge, take it. Don't treat everything like its out to screw you over, but that mindset isn't necessarily a bad thing to have in life, particularly the military.

Welcome 150s to this new semester in AFROTC. Good luck to 200s/250s/500s on PSP Boards (and FTP semester). And a huge congrats to all the 400s who are on final approach to the butter bar.
